Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Wow. Pokemon is killing it..

I know this is probably normal for the franchise, but I never take it for granted. I mean, it's not often that you see any brand have such staying power for such a long time. People grow older, they change, they find new hobbies..it's never a given that a franchise will remain so popular for so many years.

Pokémon sales at almost 15 times the second place. (Two SKUs, brand new release, etc. But 15 times.)

What would have been a good debut number for Shenmue?

The first one was number one, and around 300k sales first week. Which was pretty good for a new franchise I thought.

17k is terrible.

This kinda sucks for Shenmue, the story is again with no proper conclusion and judging by the sale, who knows if we're ever gonna see a sequel.

Switch is a beast. Nearly 3 years on the market and yet to receive any price cut like 3ds but the momentum isn't slowing down at all.

Not as dead as Xbox. 110 combined total for both models. I know it's not popular in Japan but that's hilarious.
And yes Switch is killing it.
At this rate PS5 future isn't looking good at all. Next year is going to be Switch peak year in term of sales. PS4 was very fortunate with WiiU failures.

I think the future for PS5 is very bright. There are much bigger markets that will buy millions & millions of PS5s.

We're discussing within the Japan market here, Nintendo Switch market share is expanding at a monstrous rate even without any help from a price drop.

PS4 with full support from AAA third party games and WiiU castrophe still struggling to reach PS3 LTD sales.

We're looking at PSVita situation for PS5 in Japan with Switch's taking 3ds role and PS5 as PSVita.

Shenmue 3 flopping even in Japan is quite a surprise, I thought it wouldn't do well "only" in Western markets.

Yeah, I think it's over, probably.

There's no way they're gonna get publisher funding now, and I don't think a second kickstarter campaign will carry as much weight as last time.

Oh well. I think Yu should have focused on telling the story, instead of making the world. For starters, I wouldn't have the game voiced in two languages. And I would get rid of the in-game clock. It would have made the game better imo, and it would save a lot of money. And enabled to tell a more complete story. Shenmue3 likely covers about three chapters, judging from the scenery. And they probably ended up cutting off the whole thing.

What a pity.

I don't really follow these sales threads but I'm surprised that the Switch has outsold the PS4 in Japan so quickly.

Nintendo is in prime position to dominate in Japan for years to come, PS5 better bring some heat.

Is this a new kind of Astroturfing?
