The Last of Us Part II opens at 178,696 retail sales.

Famitsu has published its estimated physical game software and hardware sales data for Japan for the week of June 15, 2020 to June 21, 2020.

The newly launched The Last of Us Part II for PlayStation 4 was the top selling software last week, opening at 178,696 retail sales.

On the hardware side, the Switch family sold 78428 units, the PlayStation 4 family sold 12,844 units, and the 3DS family sold 1,152 units.

How? Xbox 360 sold like 500 units in Japan.

well, because it was a big title.
and no, the 360 didn't sell as bad as the Xbox One. and the 360 had a niche hardcore audience in Japan, games like Steins;Gate were actually timed exclusives on Xbox. it also had many exclusive shmups in Japan

Ok. This settles it. Now i'm convinced The Last of Us Part II is already a massive success. I still need to see how big is the drop in sales the second week but failure is already out of the window for this game.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
Respectable to disappointing sales for TLOU2. Though I'm guessing it probably won't have much of legs..

Moderate PS4 hardware increase. We're really close to the end now it seems, at least in terms of Japan.
