Famitsu thread of Persona 4 raditude

err, of course they wont cast hama if you choose knockdown. if hama hits, the monster is dead. a dead monster is not a knocked down monster :)

they instead try to knock it down via physical attacks, because that would mean the monster could be knocked down and still be alive, thus the knock down effect will take place.

Yeah, it was either the default AI or the knock-down, neither of which behaved nearly as a intelligently as a player would. Lord knows how many time they tried to cast stupid status magic when the enemy had 1 freaking HP left.

Hell, if you could control your partners, it would have been one of the easiest RPGs on the system.

it was awesome tho, I liked whenever a party member would cast a healing spell on me. it was like "yes! way to go Aigis!", added charm to the characters. sure they sometimes did stupid stuff, but what human being doesnt!?

like Junpei lawl, he was so dumb.

What was your guy's standard party? I usually just used the initial 4 (hero, Yukari, Mitsuru, Akihido) unless there was a boss and I would swap in for resistances if one of them was getting murdered. It seemed to work out fairly well.

Those Mp3 links seem to be broken, though I may be doing it wrong.

Not a lot of info on that webpage yet, except for the reveals of Persona names. Some of those look new, but they might be ones that from older games that I'm unfamiliar with. Still nothing to determine whether or not other characters can change their Personae, inside or outside of battle. (Do they ever use different ones in any of the videos, or is the MC the only one that uses multiple?) Meh, I was hoping it would return to the P2 and P1 level of party customization, but I guess we'll have to settle for just being able to control the tards again.

(My party was Main, Mitsuru, Akihiko, and that Koro-dogthing. The first two have both attack magic and physical attacks, and the dog's Mudo and agi turned out to be a great, GREAT combination of elements.)

Atlus USA is announcing a new game this week, by my understanding. P4 by the end of the year? A P4 trailer included in FES? Either of those, or yet another shitty SRPG for DS that nobody cares about.

MC, Aigis, Ken and Koromaru. Ken and Koro are monsters, with so many monsters weak to Hama or Mudo in the higher floors the battles were a piece of cake, and them being resistant to those also helps. Ther Agi and Zio skills are pretty strong too. Aigis because she has the occasionally necessary raw power.

I also like them all as characters (I can't resist using dogs and wolves in games <3), so I was very satisfied in having those three as my standart party most of the time, from time to time swapping to Akihiko, Mitsuru and lastly Yukari. Although I like Junpei, I found him to be pretty useless in battle and basically didn't use him unless it was obligatory (early game). :/

It also confirms that Neko Shogun will be a Persona in P4.... YAY! :D <3 <3

Really? That's cool. I wonder if any of the other Devil Summoner/Soul Hacker guys will be in.

They should give the ones that showed up in both P3 and Nocturne a rest. It made me sad yesterday when I was looking at secret boss fights from SMT1/2 and DS1/2 and they pretty much all used the same party, regardless of game. That is what made me accept that yes, the DS series had to change.

Never really had a standard party, it was near constant swapping to keep everybody leveled. I did prefer using the initial four of MC, Yukari, Junpei and Akihiko.

In the last battle though, my team had to be MC, Yukari, Aigis and Akihiko for reasons only because it had the best chances for victory (my team was underleveled by quite a fair margin).

I'm liking the yellow though like Himuro said maybe a dash of orange would spruce things up some more.

fuck either of those would be awesome. do you know what day they're making an announcement?

Himuro said:
Nope.

However, I doubt it'd be P4. I mean, why announce P4 when people have Fes pre orders? They'd probably cancel their Fes pre orders so they could just get P4. Right?
nah, think about it. other than j-gaf who got fes ages ago, who in this thread would cancel fes pre-order? i think the same applies to everyone waiting for fes, they'll definately get both. i mean, it's not like they're coming out at the same time

I would imagine P4 is being announced this week, maybe even for this year.

The fact that's it's a PS2 game can't make them feel good about dragging out the release date any longer than absolutely necessary, even if they are Atlus and their fanbase has generally not been too concerned about platform in the past.

I just really have doubts Atlus would announce Persona 4 before Persona 3 FES is even out.

So I'm thinking this is most likely the announcement for Etrian Odyssey 2.

I like the yellow, looks awesome. I like how consistent the art direction is, tho it doesn't surprise me since the art direction in P3 was absolutely amazing.

Himuro said:
I don't think I ever said I was even upset. I was just saying yellow sucks. So because you make a comment about something it means you're offended by it? How about you get off my nuts?
:lol

Dude, just get over it. For real. I don't know why you're so angry. Yellow is a great color.

Oh, you agree?

Good.

Now that people mention it, Etrian Odyssey 2 is likely the announcement for this week. If it were P4, I don't think it would hurt FES sales at all.

The P4 trailer makes it really seem like only the main character can change his Persona, even outside of battle. That kind of sucks; swapping party members is nowhere near as interesting as customizing a preset group's personas.

When I could I went with the pimp party of main and the 3 girls (that's what I beat the game with), but I switched stuff up based upon weaknesses, so I also used Koromaru and Akihiko a lot. I actually pretty much dropped Junpei after awhile until I got him an awesome weapon, then I let him tag along and get leveled up super fast near the end.

wait do you understand japanese? if so, why would you wait for the us release?

I do know Japanese, but as a second language. The main reason I would wait for a US release if it came out this year is because my PS3 is NTSC US :/ and I never modded my old PS2 so if it comes down to it, I'd have to buy a JPS2.

oooh. i kinda feel your pain; i have a pal ps3 and a modded ps2 to play imports. i really wish i could play ntsc fes on pal ps3 :( sony, get on this!

Haha. The AI was fine for me. I just adjusted it depending on what I wanted to do.

My argument is that I think the AI should be a bit smarter about going for knock-downs. Or, at least, don't make it so long into the game before you get that strategy option.

Hopefully we'll get another take on Mass Destruction somewhere in the game, if not as the normal battle theme.

That would be nice... but i'd like a remix of it for a hidden boss in the game that could be someone from P3 more than anything. Really I just cant wait to here the original battle themes for P4.

Here's a userbar I just made if that's any use to you for other sites or blogs or whatever:

God, that hurts my eyes

Hmm, this thread made me remember that I have to finish Persona 3. I think I'm one month away from teh end >.>

main, mitsuru, koromaru and aigis would be my main party. in reality, i used everybody pretty much evenly to keep their lvls high at all times. i dont like to neglect anybody too much if possible and in general.

that goes for all jrpgs.

So I go to start a new game of Nocturne and I get... Disc Read Error. Tried a bunch of games, and the only one that works so far is Fatal Frame. Sprayed it with air duster and still nothing.

What a load of crap. I've already had to pay 20$ shipping TWICE the last two times my PS2 broke. Are the slim ones more reliable than the new big ones? I may have to get one before FES comes out.

Thought I fixed it, disc showed up, tries to load it, then boots back to the selection screen.

Ooh, this time it actually got to the PLAYSTATION 2 screen before rebooting to the menu screen.

Anyone have an idea on how much Gamestop gives for fatass PS2 systems, or how reliable the Refurbished slim ones are?

I never played a persona game before, but since gaf never let me down before (except for contra, but God Hand and Zack and Wiki made up for it) I will get FES day one :D

You mean PS2?

There is no slim PS3... yet.

If you mean PS2, then yeah, the slims are more reliable.

So, the Disc Read Error has bricked my PS2's ability to play PS2 games, and Sony no longer replaces the systems for free-- they charge $45 that they didn't charge the last two times I had this fixed.

Now I need to decide whether or not take that offer ($45 + 20 for shipping), trade this in at Gamestop for a Slim-line model for a net loss of like $120 dollars, or just get a 60GB PS3, despite not wanting any games for that system (YET).

My question is: How is the backwards computability with the two PS3 models (60 and 80 GB)?, considering that almost my entire collection of PS2 games is RPGs? Does anyone know any that aren't compatible yet? Are they doing a good job of updating the list over time? It seems like recent firmware update has fixed a lot, but Persona 3 isn't on the list for 80GB games...

Can either model play PSX games, or offer improvements to the PS2 games that they can play?

Does it improve load times at all? My contempt for Persona 3 was partially fueled by contempt for the frequent load times, but they may have been exacerbated by the death throes of my seven year old PS2.

Man, all this the day after I order Odin Sphere and Okami.
