Far Cry 2 vs Crysis Warhead

We got Far Cry 2 a couple of days ago and people at our website has been curious to know if it is as good looking or even better looking that Crysis. So we did a comparison article with pictures from Far Cry 2 and from Crysis Warhead (and a few from Crysis) to let our readers deside for themselves.

Below is two examples. There is a lot more pictures at this link: http://www.gamereactor.se/artiklar/15334/Far+Cry+2+vs+Crysis/

Click on a picture and then "Större bild" to make them fullsize.

crysis is obviously better from a gfx standpoint but less stuff going on ( meteo & everything)
Modelling is better on crysis too , and wtf @ the dithering shadow on far cry?

Crysis anything looks better than Far Cry 2. That being said, Far Cry 2 looks very good and has a lot going on in it.

Crysis and Warhead are obviously the better-looking games, which is why Far Cry 2's recommended specs call for a lesser computer to run it.

Comparing visuals is useless, however, considering that regardless of how they compare to each other, they're still both great-looking games in their own right.

Where it counts is gameplay and more importantly AI, since both rely so heavily on how entertaining the combat encounters are. And based on everything I've seen and played, Crysis and Warhead are so far beyond when comes to combat AI that the comparison is not even close.

But until Far Cry 2 is actually released, no one knows for sure.

I thought Far Cry 2 was supposed to be a big leap in graphics. What happened? Those shots looks worse than any of the other ones I've seen before.

Nothing can touch the CryEngine 2 at the moment. Nothing.

Maybe that's what happens if you get direct-feed screens instead of bullshots? I dunno. I hope they took these from the PC version maxed out to have a fair comparison against these Crysis shots, which look like they were taken at Very High/Enthusiast.

And let's not forget the different system requirements for the two games. Far Cry 2's are lower than Crysis', so it looking anywhere close to Crysis wasn't too likely in the first place.

Crysis completely murders everything from a graphical standpoint. You can't even diss the art design. You can try, as many have, but you will not succeed. Subjectivity can only go so far.

Is there a reason why you're comparing Far Cry 2 360 to Crysis High end PC?

(The pic of the black dude is from crysis, not warhead)

The PC versions need to be compared, not the Highend Warhead version vs. a console version. Plus it would help if Far Cry 2 was released.

I have never seen any video indicate that FC2 will push anything remotely detailed as that above pic. Not even the PC version.

I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Plus it would help if those two pics were of equal resolution. That FC2 one is at 1920x1200 while the Warhead one is at 1280x800.

I'm a huge FC2 fan and can't wait for it to come out, but it doesn't sniff Crysis' toes from a graphical standpoint. Crysis shits all over everything. Warhead only reinforced that.

yes, i also think it looked better when it was a pc exclusive :-/

That's just bullshit. It's still first and foremost a high end PC game that got ported to consoles. We have hardly seen PC footage over the last couple of months but according to almost everyone who had the chance to compare each version the PC version looks much, much better.

Console gamers are the only ones who should be pissed off because the console version looks so much worse than the PC version. It's one of those rare exceptions where PC gamers can be happy that the bad end of the stick isn't on their side.

rare exception?

Good lord, Crysis by a Texas mile. Crysis is so far ahead of everything, save for Rage, it's almost ridiculous.

Far Cry 2 (console version) looks absolutely awful in comparison to Crysis.

Actually, forget the comparison with Crysis, it still looks bad. There are far too many better looking FPS games based on those top screenshots.

I haven't seen much console footage. How does Far Cry 2 actually look like?

I meant it's a rare exception among PC/console games whre console -> PC ports seem to be the norm. Far Cry 2 is a game made for the PC that's being ported for consoles and as such no compromises had to be made for the PC version for once.

The console version is even missing local multiplayer which can certainly be blamed on it being a shoddy port. It's missing such rudimentary features as splitscreen and system link so it is actually dumbed down compared to real console shooters because it's a PC port, not the other way around.

It will probably be a bug ridden mess too like all PC games. Not a good deal for console gamers in the end.

I really do hope that someone puts out a mod for Far Cry 2 on PC that takes off whatever filter they use to make everything look drab and brown.

I don't know where to begin with this post

Well you know, in order to go from a PC exclusive down to a console port, you have to make all these sacrifices to accommodate inferior hardware.

Never made sense to me. Should have just kept the game on the PC.

Well, it originally was. The game had a staff of over 100 people so it cost them some coin. So either they decided to change it because it wasn't going to make a profit, or they wanted more profit. That's the way it works. It isn't 1998 anymore.

i guess i agree with some of that, not all pc games are bug ridden messes though :( and console games are patched just as much as pc games these days

Yeah except that the console version of Far Cry 2 supports system link and most FPS coming out nowadays dont support splitscreen...

Again, it was a PC exclusive from the start and they ported it to consoles during the later stages of development. Nothing got dumbed down. It's a high end PC game and the console version is a shoddy port.

I know it's very comfortable for PC gamers to blame everything on consoles but in this case we are the ones who got the shitty port that doesn't come close to a game designed for the respective platform.

Ubi Montreal should've done the console versions from scratch. That way everyone would win and I don't have to read so much bullshit from PC gamers anymore. The best thing about this is that there won't be a Far Cry 3 for PC because it will probably sell at least three times as many copies on consoles :lol

You're an awful poster.

It's called the next-gen filter. :P

That's another reason why Crysis dominates graphically. It actually uses a wide color palette, virtually unheard of in this gen when it comes to shooters.

Oh GAF, your hostility to PC gamers is endearing. :lol

Did you see the new console footage in the jungle? Looks better than most stuff out there, looks great! Also CVG just played the latest version of far cry 2 on Xbox 360 today and in their live blog they said it was a rock solid 30fps the whole time, never dipped even in great battles with all these explosions and lush jungles.
