Fatal Frame U, Devil's Third and Xenoblade Chronicles X: Great Combo for the Holidays

Seems great. Except Fatal Frame. Fatal Frame.... its not a good series. You will see this time. You will finally be able to buy a localized FF game.... and then you wont like it

Devils Third looks bad... But itagaki (?) sounds SO confident in the project i cant help but expect it to be good.

But none of it will sell. Call of Duty and Assassins Creed and Madden will sell while the home console market kills itself in a sea of mediocrity

So to those that cant enjoy a game unless its the best seller of the week/month/year (and it seems a lot of people work like this), can go look elsewhere for games

How does what you described translate to "Nintendo's not going for sales"?

I thought it was implied that Mihael was talking about Wii U hardware sales. But maybe not? I mean, let's be honest, none of these titles are going to be big hardware movers. None of them are going to give the Wii U an appreciable bump in hardware sales. Maybe Xenoblade, but I'm skeptical that even it will move the needle much. Did the first game even break 1 million worldwide?

EDIT: Remember, this is what the OP said:

Together, all this 3 games show a really strong line-up for the Wii U centered in the Hardcore crowd. If Nintendo can heavily promote all this 3 games to the mainstream and remind them of the great games they already have out, like Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros. and Bayonetta 2, it can make a lot of heads turn and pay attention to the Wii U.

And I'm pretty sure that's what Mihael was referring to when he was talking about sales.

Best combo ever for people who already own the system. I doubt they can pull much interest from wider audience, sadly.

But yeah, Those 3 tiles look fantastic and I can't wait to see more of them in the near future.

I am looking forward to Devil's Third since the re-unveiling, but it's funny how everyone kept shitting on it last year and now (after nothing has changed for the title) it's all of a sudden good enough to fill these recent lists that desperately wanna prove that the WiiU isn't dead.

It's a mistake to market 3 games together.
Cannabalizes the share of voice, dilutes the core communication of each title, and really the targets of each title are very different so it's an inefficient spend.

They need to be turned into separate pulse points and carefully brought to market in a targeted way.

They can probably steal some hardware budget if bundled into a platform comm strategy, but even then the hardware team would have a different target and goals and the bulk of their spend would likely go against a better ROI audience like families. Not the right content for that message.

It's a lot harder than you think.
Each game has it's own financial goals and likely different teams managing them.

That said, if done with foresight and a solid release strategy, at least it's good content for some of the existing player base to stay engaged with the platform.

I think people are just really hoping it's gotten a lot better since E3, especially considering Itagaki's infectious enthusiasm for the game.

why do people still worry about sales on wiiU.
seriously that ship passed long ago.

it's all about whether the games are quality, now.
i have 100% faith xenoblade will.
if you already like FF, then you have a good idea of what to expect from this one.
Devil's third is anyone's guess. it looked rough the last time it was revealed. Hopefully Nintendo's involvement will mean the game will be as polished as it can possibly be, when it comes out.

I agree with you, Wii U should aspire to Gamecube numbers at least, but I think Nintendo has a huge chance to make the world know they do have more to offer for the Wii U, new games they can enjoy if they give them a chance in the future. Maybe they won´t move Wii U sales, but they will help in repairing the damage done by the last year of the Wii and the first year of the Wii U when games where pretty much non-existant, and if the Next Nintendo Console has Backwards compatibility (Almost a guarantee at this point) this games can be remembered by those prospective buyers and my sway them to purchase it.

Its all about repairing the Nintendo brand for the people who forgot about it.

This makes a lot of sense and it makes me think about a Xenoblade Wii U Bundle, very limited and with a cool blue color.

Nice if Nintendo to keep building their struggling console library. I will get xcx ..I'll wait to see if devils third is improved/ the reviews are good. The fatal frame game is a bit toooo gimmicky lol so might hold off on that.

Devil's Third looks like utter garbage, and the Xenoblade/Fatal Frame combo will be great but won't do much for sales. Honestly it's looking pretty dire for Nintendo this holiday at the moment, but I'll certainly have some great Wii U games to play this year.

Can't wait to see more of Star Fox.

As much as I Iove the lineup I don't see them being major hits. Fatal Frame might have a chance since horror games are on a bit of an uptick and this is probably going to be the only big horror game for the Wii U post Zombi U and the series is one of, if not the, best in genre. Than again I don't how many Youtubers are going to post videos of them pretending to be scared and screaming their heads off for a Wii U game.

Star Fox, Yoshi, and SMT x FE might stand a better chance of pushing units but nothing is going to fill the void left by Zelda.

I'll be happy this year and that's all that matters to me.

Personally, I think Devil's Third and Fatal Frame should receive modest marketing so that X can get more attention. It's gonna be the bigger game.

To Japanese game fans definitely.

To the mainstream? Yeah, won't do shit.

Devil's third in particular looks pretty mediocre, but FF and XCX look great.

That said, since owners of the system really have slim pickings, maybe the games can pull a ToS like during the gamecube days.

If SMT X FE and Star Fox can make it for this year its going to be awesome, that is for sure. Yoshi looks like a killer app to me, too, its impossible to resist that cover.

Xenoblade Chronicles X will at least (probably) have critical acclaim and is in a better position than the other two games, but even then it's a mid-tier title in terms of sales at best

the other two aren't going to do a damn thing

I see them as just another batch of Japanese games that are exclusive on the system.

If this is deemed to be good sales wise, then I think PS4 that has Dragon Quest Heroes, Persona 5 and J star Victory Versus pack more of a punch.

Will buy a WiiU for Fatal Frame, actually

Xenoblade obviously will be great, too.

I can finally stop acting like Fatal Frame V doesn't exist so that's great. I'm hoping Devils Third does shape up, the concept has so much potential.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to it and I typically don't like the Yoshi games much.

HOLY FUCK!!

Ok is fatal frame 5 scary? I saw people say that it was not scary, but I don't want to be spoiled so I did not search for more info about it, can anyone give me their thoughts on the game without spoiling anything? Thanks in advance.

It'll all probably bomb, because it's very niche stuff.

That said, it'd be like... the most amazing holiday lineup ever for me. I think we have to acknowledge at this point that none of this stuff is going to turn the WiiU around commercially. Just enjoy the awesome games.

I honestly don't know how well any of these games will do. Xenoblade sold well enough to warrant a sequel and a 3DS remake so I think XCX has the best chance to see a good amount of sales, especially if Nintendo actually advertises it this time around (Operation Rainfall put in the work last gen).

Regardless, XCX and Fatal Frame are both guaranteed buys for me. I still want to see more from Devil's Third but I'm sure with all this time they've had since last E3 to polish it up it'll surprise us. The multiplayer has me really intrigued.

Hopefully we'll see Star Fox by the end of the year as well.

I think they should have switch it up a little and leave Splatoon for holiday season. That title has much more potential and appeal.

Xenoblade might end up being the big November title in the west. It's got little brand power, but it should be easy to market given that it's a big open-world, which the west loves. Fatal Frame is coming over to fill the horror niche and because they sort of own the franchise. Devil's Third may as well not exist. It's this year's W101/Bayonetta (and will probably sell like W101 as well). Xenoblade is the only thing really worth mentioning in the grand scheme.

Splatoon seems like a perfect summer game, to me. Kids can find they toys while on vacation, get the game, play it a LOT, go back to school and let all the other kids know about it. Seems like the kind of game that word of mouth can make huge, on top of the pre-release hype its getting.

Summer should be fine for it. Not as much competition and the word of mouth can help it even in the holiday months.

They are some interesting titles, and I guess they have the advantage of appealing to different types of gamers (horror, action, RPG).

Personally I'm only planning on buying Xenoblade.
I'm not into horror game and Devil's Third looked terrible the last time it was shown (IMO)

LOL what are you saying dude

Of course they are "going for sales". You think they're localizing these games because they're your pal? rofl

What are they going for instead?

They're not going for sales? What are they going for then?

Nintendo is in a position where they are desperate for games and they realize they can't be super arrogant and "choosy" about what they do and don't localize, so they're hoping that they can atleast get some dollars from their more hardcore crowd with some more niche titles.
Iwata told you multiple time what they going for. Yall talking bout sale.. please. Customer satisfaction over sales. Sales is somewhere else in the amiibos yall claim would bomb so hard but selling out in 30 mins a piece. If sales was they game they would axe Wii U with the quickness.

I don't understand the premise of the OP from a sales perspective but that's a decent lineup for tone and variety sake.

None of the games seem sugary sweet in their charm which will be a nice change of pace from the great(but overwhelmingly colorful) Wii U library.

Sleep on Devil's Third all you want but it's said to have undergone an overhaul, it has watermelons in it and a bald guy that is cool.

I'm mostly hyped up for Xenoblade and Fatal Frame Wii U. Devils Third I'm unsure about at the moment but the MP looks really interesting, only thing i'm worried is how long it will last before its empty.

I have no clue why your even trying to hype up Devil's third, that game looks extremely bad. Bad from at first glance looking like a port of a wii game and just looked at the online trailer and looks like if a indie dev tried to make a free to play Call of Duty. What makes it even more sad is that the Original Devil's Third looked better then this one just look at the OG trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nk3g1Q3Zis0 how is that possible and damn now that looked amazing.

Supposedly the game looks much better now and has undergone significant changes.

I'd wait before dismissing it as shovelware.
