Is that Ruth Powers near the top?
It is actually. Hahaha

I hope someone got fired for that blunder.

Actually that whole scene is full of blunders. Someone mentioned the photos on the wall over the stairs. They're the same ones. And Lisa is there every time. Not to mention, I'm pretty sure they got that house AFTER they knew they were having Bart.

Then again, it could just be an unreliable narrator.

I'm more distracted by the really really low cleavage on Mrs. Hibbert next to her. Though that's really just perspective playing tricks. Except it doesn't excuse the fact that she had a pink shirt on under the purple jacket that has inexplicably disappeared.

I remember seeing this over at my friend's house and cracking up at that joke while he looked at me like I was crazy. I had to explain what was so funny.

Love that one.

Haha yea! So funny that some people don't get it..... just out of curiosity, how did you explain it to him? Just wondering cus it's so obvious to me I don't know what needs explaining.

The whole steamed hams and aurora borealis exchange between Skinner and Superintendent Chalmers.

This is the one, it's what all the Skinner and Chalmer segments were building up towards, concluding in something so silly it's amazing.

Otherwise this entire string of segments from Homer Badman plus the rock bottom bit from the same episode.
"Homer sleeps nude in an oxygen tent which he believes gives him sexual powers!"
"Your tears say more than real evidence ever could"
"Now I'm gonna grab me some SWEET!"

Moe and the lie detector.

Also when Homer disobeys his brain and you can hear his brain walkout, storming up the stairs then slamming the door.

When Krusty tells people the Krusty's McRib knockoff main ingredient is, "think of spiders but with more legs."

I just pointed out that if Sneed's Feed and Seed kept the same first letters in the name when Chuck owned it, it would be called Chuck's Fuck and Suck.

Last Exit to Springfield

The whole episode has so many memorable moments, one liners and jokes its too difficult to count them all - hired goons, dental plan, a thousand monkeys or Granpa catching the ferry to Shelbyville to name a few but the scene with Homer negotiating the union's deal with Burns is just incredible.

Mr. Burns: "We don't have to be adversaries, Homer. We both want a fair union contract."

Homer's Brain: "Why is Mr. Burns being so nice to me?"

Mr. Burns: "And if you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours."

Homer's Brain: "Wait a minute. Is he coming onto me?"

Mr. Burns: "I mean, if I should slip something into your pocket, what's the harm?"

Homer's Brain: "My God! He is coming onto me!"

Mr. Burns: "After all, negotiations make strange bedfellows. (chuckles, winks)"

Homer's Brain: Aaaaaagh!

Homer: "Sorry, Mr. Burns, but I don't go in for these backdoor shenanigans. Sure, I'm flattered, maybe even a little curious, but the answer is no!"

Homer - "I've got to go somewhere and do some serious thinking."

*Drives Away*

Bart - "I'm sure he meant to say serious drinking."

Lisa - "That's what I assumed."

It's a visual gag, but it kills me every time I see it:

It took me one of the other Simpson's threads on GAF for me to get it. I get the explanation, but put me in the camp who didn't assume that just because Chuck owned it, it'd have to be anything different than "Chuck's Feed and Seed." Chuck used to own the Feed and Seed, and now Sneed's does. A change in ownership doesn't mean a change in the business.

But like you said, it's a visual gag. And if you get it, you get it and if you don't, you don't.

Homer puts a condom on his head.

Marge: Homer, where did you get that?

Homer: Get what?

Marge: That giant donut.

Homer: Well I acquired it legally, you can be sure of that.

Yeah I am pretty sure that is just a stocking not a condom.

For the longest time i thought that joke was something else but just as dirty; some people call sperm their "seed" so i thought it had something to do with that

It turns out its a completely different joke

After 23 years, I finally decided this is my favourite Simpsons moment:

1029595

Beekeeper 1: Well, sure is quiet in here today.
Beekeeper 2: Yes, a little too quiet, if you know what I mean.
Beekeeper 1: Hmm... I'm afraid I don't.
Beekeeper 2: You see, bees usually make a lot of noise. No noise - suggests no bees!
Beekeeper 1: Oh, I understand now.
[a bee flies by]
Beekeeper 1: Oh look, there goes one now.
Beekeeper 2: To the Beemobile!
Beekeeper 1: You mean your Chevy?
Beekeeper 2: [pause] Yes.

In second place would be the Bort license plates gag.

*sad music*

I am just a simple paper boy
No romance do I seek
I just wanted forty cents
for my deliveries last week
Will this bewitching floozie
seduce this humble newsie?
Oh what's a paper boy, to...
(pause)
Dooooooo????

Every single thing about that, from the lyrics to the orchestration to the context to the performance, to even the satire afoot in the gentle blocking of the scene as Apu steps back into the conversation and out of his soliloquy, are just perfect.

Shout out to "Stop the Planet of the Apes, I Want to Get Off" and the Springfield Elementary President's Day Pageant starring Milhouse as Abe Lincoln as well. And Krusty's maudlin "Send in the Clowns" rendition. The Simpsons could satirize just about any presentation with such precision it was kind of bracing, leaving you like "YES, every time I've seen something like that it was hilarious!"

There's too many to mention, and everyone has already mentioned a ton, but one that comes to mind,

*Krusty holds sign that says Will Drop Pants for Food*

"But that guy's giving it away for free"

Old Grey Mare, she ain't what she used to be, ain't what she used to be, ain't what she used to be

OOHOHHHH, and when Homer takes Bart to a gay steel mill

"She'll go 300 hectares on a single tank of kerosene."

"What country is this car from?"

"It no longer exists, but take her for a test-drive and you'll agree--'Zagreb ebnen zloty diev!'"

"Put it in 'H!'”

This entire scene never fails to get a rise out of me. It's so brilliantly-written and -animated.

In my old apartment building the parking spots were lettered instead of numbered, and I got spot H. And every time, without fail, no matter why or who I was with, I would yell out put it in H whenever I pulled in.

It was glorious.

That moment in "A Star is Burns" when Marge is about to propose her idea at the town meeting and there's a general grumbling. Right after it dies out you hear one guy: "Marge is gonna say something."

Simpsons has the best crowd murmur dialogue. "The finger thing means the taxes!"
