FF IV: Remake (DS) - Developer's Blog (roughly translated) Now with.... VA?

DAMN YOU SQUARE ENIX.

I loathe and despise you for letting me buy that shoddy gameboy advance port only to make me buy the same game 1 year later.

:´(

my money, my poor little money...

AHHHH I don't know what to do, I REFUSE to fall on SE's trap.

Next they'll do a " this time is definite, we swear" PSP or Wii or DS 2 port and so on and so on. I don't want to be SE's bitch.

I'm already their bitch.

Moar DS, Wii, and PS2 games plz.

I'm just going to go ahead and say that they could keep remaking this game with graphical updates and increased content until I'm in my 80s and I'd still keep rebuying it. :lol

You see those new Eva movies?

Can't wait 'till those hit DVD...the similarity between the whoring of both franchises is hilarious.

I still buy into them almst every time though. :lol

Eva is a billion times worse.

Until I see pachinko parlors, household goods and food that is Final Fantasy themed, they're not coming close.

I hate how they think your characters died...we weren't playing the same game were we? I only remember Tellah dieing.

but when they leave the party its almost always a matter of self sacrifice... and in the SNES version you couldn't get them back.

so how much longer is it going to take this game to hit the states? Hits japan December 20th according to the interview. Anyone know or have an idea? I'm super pumped for this.

Probably no earlier than next May.

Have you even played Chocobo Tales? At least in the screens this looks worse, closer to FFIII.
Don't mistake me, I have played the SNES evrsion, the GBA version and I'll also play this one. But still I should be permitted to ask that question.

too many ppl have come in this thread just to troll so I'm a little defensive

Thank you very much for your translations, please keep doing those for the sake of us GAFFERS. This remake sounds better and better with each passing week!

Wow, that last update is great! Going out of their way to give each area the unique and surprising look that the tileset design of the original prevented it from having! Yet more discussion of how they've learned from, and will improve upon, the FF3 remake! I'm so excited I need to end all my sentences with exclamation points!

Golbez (Takeshi Kaga) - yes, the host of Iron Chef!!!
Amazing. Best decision EVER

FF2 is great stuff. What you put into it can have a large impact with what you get out of it. Going through with less than 1000HP was pretty intense!
Yeah, it can be a really intense game sometimes. And it is excellent to speed run. My main complaint is that lack of team building options. Advance solved that really well, though this new system honestly sounds kinda dumb. Hopefully I'm wrong....

I hope they are adding new monsters/dungeons/equipment and not just more lines of text.

One of them is an announcement that they're using a 1Gb cart... but that's a DUH, since FF3 was a 1Gb cart and the price has gone down for those carts and there's VA in FF4.

wow - if they can get a full-fledged 3d remake of 4 + va on an 128mb card :o

wonder which game will be squares first 256mb one....dq9 ?

I can't think of anything before DQ9 that would but personally I'm doubtful. DQ games normally have a price premium over standard SE releases which often have a price premium over standard industry releases, and to keep that price premium with the VERY EXPENSIVE 2Gb cards, they'd have to charge an ungodly amount...

... then again, it'd still end up being cheaper than FFXII/DQ9 because of the handheld/console price difference.

What's the release date for NA?

None yet. I'd guess Q3 2008 if I had to.

Don't say stuff like that. Revenant Wings is a really cool game and I'm very much looking forward to the US release.

Still... hopefully FF4r's US release won't take quite so long as Q3/Q4 2008.

There's a new update, this time from the sound team. One notable thing is that FF4 DS will have a music box mode where Gilbart will play the various tunes on the soundtrack for you.

The other notable update today is at the main site: http://www.square-enix.co.jp/ff4ds/main.html

The Character section now has cutscene videos for Cecil, Kain and Rosa. Looks top notch with voices and all. :D

This game lives up to SOTN's level of quality and ambiance. It is awesome, awesome.

This game has the potential to become the greatest FF ever. Everything seems so right, well-balanced. It's like a tale. H.C. Anderson sucks compare to this.

Cheers for the update. Would you possibly be able to translate the latest blog entry like PolyGone was doing, please?

Totally stoked for this game, but I have to say I think its pretty weak that they are using the exact same music from the SNES version. I really thought they would at least redo the tracks with some better quality equipment instead of keeping it midi style.

I wasn't going to keep posting here, but whatever this news is kind of interesting and may be of some interest to some of you:

Final Fantasy IV DS will give players the option of having the voices or turning them off. You can also skip event scenes by pressing the start button. Any events that have already occurred can be viewed in an Event Theater. Additionally, the game features a variety of mini-games that can be played alone or head to head over wireless communication (unfortunately this feature is not wi-fi enabled). Players who set record scores in these mini-games will earn a secret character that grows stronger with every mini-game session, and can be summoned into battle inside the main game (replacing the summoner). Lastly, players will be able to customize their battle command list to feature whatever commands they choose, including individual items or spells.

see the fully translated blog along with screens here.
