'FF7 Main Theme', 'Blue Fields', or 'Crossing Those Hills'?

VII's is sad, IX's is cozy, and VIII's is like a weird dreamy, adventurous feeling. (which all match the atmosphere of their given game)

Blue Fields has the coolest vibe, to me. Gotta love the steel drums.

Hard choice between bluefield and FFVII
I don't even remember FFIX's, mind you FFIX wasn't so rememberble anyway.
Probably the weakest in the series, especially soundtrack wise.
7-8 are godtier

Even if FF6 isn't my favorite game of the series, this is the truth.

I saw your original post and... I hear the pitchforks coming in!

All good, FF VII's main theme is obviously incredible, the late game non-theme music is weird though lol, and VIII's is a beautiful track as well.

However IX's is just magic and fits the mood of the overworld and specifically the tone of IX as well in every possible way. It's a perfect theme for the game. Easily win for IX.

"Blue Fields".

I never appreciated that song in game. Once the orchestra album came out, the beauty of it really came through. Amazing song. "FfVIII Main Theme" is really nice too.

They're all great, but Main Theme>Blue Fields>Crossing Those Hills for me. Main Theme is just a phenomenally iconic piece of music, it can't be topped. Blue Fields has a surprisingly forlorn and melancholic tone for an overworld theme, but I dig it. Crossing Those Hills sounds oddly sci-fi for a game set in a more medieval setting. It's a lovely bit of music that evokes adventure, but it just doesn't linger in the mind the way the other two do.

Out of all the FF overworld music, FF6 is a masterpiece.
Those first high flute notes are so iconic.

But if I have to pick between these 3, I would go with FF7.

blue fields is probably the most fitting as overworld music

i mean, the FF7 main theme is probably one of greatest pieces composed for a game but it felt really jarring just taking a stroll to the chocobo ranch or whatever

Terra's theme

I can't believe we had to wait for the second post for someone to speak the objective truth.

Edit: I'm randomly reminded of this South Park flashgame or whatever where you played as Mr Hat and it had a midi of Terra's Theme playing, it just popped up from out of nowhere :lol

FFVII's theme first comes up from finally getting out of Midgar, and in gameplay context is an amazing feeling — the other two eventually just plonk players into the world without much build up.

Obviously Crossing Those Hills.
Even now that I got my friend to finally play FFIX that theme is a joy to be heard.

I don't really care for Blue Fields, at least not for its intended purpose. It doesn't feel like it evokes a journey, making it more suited for a filler town than an overworld theme. Crossing those Hills has a sense of mystery and momentum to it, while also remaining soothing. It's pretty much perfect in this regard.
