FFVII Remake (part 1?) voice recording is almost finished

What the hell is this thing going to look like in the remake?
latest

Well, will the bouncing house enemies appear? Remember it's re-imagining lots of things will be changed.

I'm wondering whether or not Red XIII will get a new VA. He only had one line in AC but sounded really old. In VII he's 48 years old (which is a teenager in human years) so the older voice he has might not match. Then again he's not a human so the voice thing could be completely different for his species.

I know that a friend of a friend auditioned for Biggs a year and a half ago. I never got confirmation on whether or not they got the gig, but I know it's being recorded out in LA. I heard that they recast one character that had already recorded all their lines, but I can't remember who it was.

I'd be surprised if VO wasn't totally finished by now.

Ending at Midgar would be cool but I think they'll want to give us a taste of the open world beyond that. I'm thinking it'll open up but stop before Kalm flashback, possibly let us go to the town and the Chocobo ranch. Then part two starts with Kalm flashback.

Ugh, ending part one with the Kalm flashback would be the most anticlimactic way to end it ever...

Leaving from Junon on the boat seems like a good place to me.
Open Part 2 with Marshmallow Sailor Barret. :D

Im assuming that this is a 40 hour midgar game.

Likely not a popular opinion, but if it's fleshed out enough and if you are able to explore more of the Upper Plate & Lower Slums I'm ok with that.

Good didn't like his sound (or his look) in AC. Way too grizzled/old looking. He's just a pup!

Wasn't that the point?

The cast thinks he's this old wise figure until we get to Cosmo Canyon an learn that he's actually a youngin'.

If he looks and/or sounds young, it sort of kills that misunderstanding.

I'm thinking part 1 being all the way up to getting out of Midgar prior to the world map as being pretty cool

Hopefully that's what we get

I'm kind of hoping the game ends in Kalm and either end with the Sephiroth flashback or end with the tease of the Sephiroth flashback. I'd personally end the game with Cloud retelling the Nibelheim story, because I think introducing the main villain of the story then is the right time.

I dont think voice recording being finished means as much today as it might've meant with a SQEX game 10-15 years ago, where it probably WAS actually one of the last things done. IIRC they might've talked about how nowadays they start with VAs & localizations earlier in the process than in the past, so this might not mean the game's content is, like, 60-70% complete or anything, could be "only" 30-40% (though with them in a phase where the game's development advances at a relatively brisk pace).

I do think this is a sign that this game isn't the total disaster that won't be out until 2020+ some vocal negative nancies think it is just because the game hasn't been shown much & has had some vague comments from Nomura & Co. Don't think 2017 is realistic anymore, but 2018 seems somewhat likely, depending on where they are going to end it. Midgar alone is too little even if they expand it a bit to satisfy modern design sensibilities, but it's been so long since I last played FFVII that I don't remember FFVII well enough to think of a natural ending point past exiting Midgar.

Why is everyone getting the impression the game is almost done? Recording voice acting and building the actual game are two different things.

Oh, man, I didn't realize The Lifestream.net was around. I remember all the brutal forum arguments with Tifa vs. Aeris back in the day. I can no stress how much I'm not looking forward to all of that coming up again with the remake in all online discussion forums. The Yennefer vs Triss wars have been so much fun in their place, sigh.

I'm still quite wary about how many games the remake will be broken into. Hopefully they will announce it with the eventual release date.

Oh god the love triangle debate!! It's actually still going strong unfortunately. And it's utterly bonkers. In a few FF related communities I'm in it comes up alarmingly often. So yeah, it's not going to be fun.

I hope Cloud dies and Aerti becomes canon instead.

This game will be some sort of linear "chapter-based" FF.

I assumed SE were specifically referring to the Japanese track but apparently Steve Burton had done stuff for Cloud "a few months ago".

Obviously I definitely think the Japanese track is further along than the dub but figured it was worth posting. Small chance he's not talking about the remake either, I guess.

EDIT: False alarm, everyone! It's for Mobius's FFVII event.

Awesome. Dude's voice for Cloud is ripped right out of another reality where all that shit's real. It's that good.

glad to see they are moving right along

Just watched Max video about FF7R news, is it true that Noruma had a trailer ready for last week?

Noruma said that he had a video ready. We don't know of it was a trailer, i doubt it.

OOoooo yay! Could be for something else though. Dissidia maybe?

In his younger years, Steve even resembled Cloud.

Yeah, Dissidia was one of the main things I was thinking of as an alternative.

Then if you wanna go fringe there's stuff like Opera Omnia getting localized (would that ever happen...) or another KH thing (seems too early for that), or Smash Bros (if they wanted to dub him this time around).

This reminds me of a thread from 2014 when people were saying Zelda U couldn't possibly miss a holiday release for that year. I said 2016 at the earliest.

I don't know why you people do this to yourselves over and over and over.

FF7 will arrive no earlier than the fall of 2019.

Already? :O

So... does this suggest that Part 1 definitely ends with leaving Midgar then and before the huge Kalm cutscenes, then? =p

Part 1 being distinctly Midgar-only/pre-overworld, ending with that 'end of the highway' scene, would certainly help expedite the art and audio work heheh.

So would ending it right after you escape Midgar imo.
Kalm goes really well with the end of Shin-Ra HQ, and optimally, they probably shouldn't be separated. All the ominous horror and mystery from Shin-ra HQ carries well into the intrigue of the Kalm flashbacks.

Plus, we'd get the overworld do 'free roam' on after we finish.

But the biggest weaknesses as I see it is then Part 2 starts with no great introduction. And that's probably the biggest reason to separate the two.

End in Midgar, and that 'cliffhanger' (waiting for the Kalm flashbacks to be told) serve as a good 'episode cliffhanger' (in the sense of a drama series) and also a good introductory hour to Part 2.

Plus, it probably makes practical sense end in Midgar because Kalm will, for barely 1 hour of gameplay, require a huge amount of additional resources. Overworld; Kalm itself; Nibelheim; Sephiroth voice acting; the Nibelheim mountains and reactor.

In a practical sense, if those were included in Part 1 they may get rushed. That's a lot of new art for just 1 flashback.

But as part of a Part 2, maybe it makes a more efficient task since they're developing more overworld; more reactors for near Corel and Fort Condor; maybe even going as far as the reactor near Gongaga or even Nibelheim while developing Part 2, etc.

I'm still expecting:

Part 1: Midgar

Part 2: Kalm -> Aerith praying for Holy

Part 3: The rest
