Here we go again! Final Fantasy developer Square Enix continuing mentioning "Final Fantasy VII" and "remake" in the same breath.

Previously, Final Fantasy VII character designer mentioned the prospects of a FFVII remake, and then FFVII game director Yoshinori Kitase mentioned how he was never tired of answering questions about FFVII remakes. Now?

When asked by game site Siliconera which game FFXIII director Motomu Toriyama would want to remake, he replied, "That would be Final Fantasy VII!"

"If we had the manpower and the time to work on a project, if we were to remake Final Fantasy VII with the quality of Final Fantasy XIII it would become a tremendous project," Toriyama continued. "If we can get the number of people we need by all means that would be the one I would really want to remake."

In 2006, Square Enix released a "technical demo" depicting Final Fantasy VII as it would look in the PlayStation 3. The game was originally released on the PlayStation 1 in 1997.

How about focusing on putting out quality fresh new titles in the franchise instead of trying to relive the hey-day? FFXIII for as much as I've praised it, is losing its legs deep in the game for me with its glaring flaws. They've lost their Square is king status of games when Enix became a majority holder. Dont focus on remakes, focus on bringing back the franchise we all love and expect from Square.

They should remake FFVII with a new translation, new sidequests, etc but keep the same visuals. And make in the in battle visuals the same as the out of battle with triangle arms

Its was bound to happen eventually... but I think I'm nostalgic for early 3D visuals

That's quite true, actually. The amount of time and effort that would be required to re-create that entire world to the standard of FFXIII would be insane. There's no way they could invest that many resources to a remake.

The game itself would have to change a lot too. The game is dated as hell and just wouldn't work unless it was seriously overhauled. I know people love to knock XIII, but it is a very polished, streamlined, and modern feeling game. FFVII is not at all.
