The way the sentence was structured and ordered, it seemed like DOTA was paired with dead community and GG with boring or that it applied to both. Still I don't know why he is so enamored by what other people think especially random stream monsters. Good on him for playing what he actually thinks is fun.

If he genuinely likes either Marvel Infinite or DBZ then he should play them beyond the initial hype phase. Or at the very least, not give out hyperbolic statements and opinions on either games that he later has to take back (ie. pulling a Justin Wong).

The part about the street cred was a joke obviously.

Going from commentating on the big stage at EVO to completely trashing the game on some obscure stream is quite a huge leap.
Don't know about Mike, but for a lot, S1 was fine, every fighting game's first iteration has serious problems and SFV's wasn't as bad as some, it's S2 that showed "S1's problems" aren't problems, but rather the direction Capcom want to take the game through. That's when a lot of people lost hope for the game getting "fixed".

It's easy to call SFXT a good game after no one actually played it enough at a high level. We don't actually know what the game would look and play like when optimized so we are just working off of lower levels of play. Most FGs are fun at that level but when stakes are high people will just abuse the same stuff over and over again.

We'll never know now. Kinda funny how smaller stuff like Skullgirls managed to live longer, though it makes sense since it's considered something else entirely, unlike X which had to compete with both SF and VS.

Read this article about SamSho V Special linked to in another thread, really good stuff. Very informative.

Didn't know that both it and Vanilla were so highly regarded in Japan:

Among hardcore Japanese fighting game players, it's considered one of the best-balanced games ever made.

Vanilla SSV was really popular, in large part due to the influence of Super Battle Opera — the 2004 SBO tournament for the game had something like over 1,000 entrants.

I think it's even weirder that nothing took its place. For some reason Japan is almost completely devoid of big regular tournaments, especially for currently active games.

edit: Case in point: the Japanese CPT Premier is an impromptu tournament by Shinobism (Momochi and Chocoblanka's company) that just got announced for august.

Y'all reading too much into what Mike said. He didn't say Dota 2 or GG were boring or dead, but that 'this community' either referring to his fanbase, r/kappa or FGC as a whole see them as such.

Also I think GG and KOF are looked at as ded gaems and Dota 2 as the boring one, even though ded gaem is an in-joke in Dota 2 as well

Here are two great examples of sfxt at a high level (second set is split in two videos in case you didn't bother clicking) and these are both over a year after the game died. Esuta, in particular, really loves the game and keeps playing it as much as he can. Just because it may not be the most popular game, that doesn't mean people stopped playing it.

You posted a set from 2014 and 2015 man...

I saw the first set live actually when it happened. That was probably peak SFxT.

This is more relevant but who are the players that are playing?

I don't think it's entirely unreasonable for Mike to just be burnt out on all the esports stuff and also just not like SFV enough to stream it. This type of stuff happens all the time.

The gem system they have is pretty cool. It can give some serious power to your character like infinite super meter.

I asked if the decks will always be set, and one of the developers said mixing the decks is under consideration.

It's looks really cool, and has some potential.

If they allow mixing decks then I think it might be hard for people to keep track of their opponent's buffs.

Hope we get lots of footage from Evo, really liked what I've seen of the game so far.

Injustice or tekken7? Both on sale but I only want to get one.

Injustice = much better single player content, inferior fighter

Tekken 7 = much better fighting game, next to no single player content (no tutorials or trials either)
