Fighting Games Weekly | Feb 24 - Mar 2 | Play Seriously

I think the problem a lot of people have is they see high level and want to play like that right off the back, or just straight up don't know the steps to learn the games in.

The games are fairly easy to pick up if you learn things one step at a time.

When can you go for beginner Xrd info? I watched the GG beginner vid everyone was posting the other day and I read all the Xrd info on the dustloop wiki that exists so far, but I'm kind of at a loss for where to go next. Just best to watch match footage, I guess?

I was giving Xrd a try, but it's tough to learn against someone decent- a Sol player was
already going like 60% damage combos on me, so didn't get much of chance to learn a whole lot X_X

Guilty Gear and BB are one of those games *like marvel* where dicking around in training mode is a really good idea.

Honestly if you got a grip on what system tools are avalible to you next step is to watch vids and just get some gameplay under your belt.

You know, I think BlazBlue Chrono Phatasma being released this late may have a positive affect for the competitive scene.
With the launch now, it'll bring in more casual players that would've likely dropped it by now (as seen with Persona 4 Arena), in addition to the casual/hardcore from the Japanese launch.

And then the patch will also keep people from quitting/bring people back, so essentially it gets 3 launches leading up to Evo.

Honestly I think the American release got delayed this late because of the patch.

I'm not saying that it was released this late due to any thoughts of Aksys keeping the competitive scene vibrant, just that this could be a consequence of it.
Yeah, it's a positive side effect of it.

Plus people that imported the game are generally hardcore about it, so seeing them play the game decently builds up some hype

Training mode expensive in the arcade- 100 yen/7 minutes! I plan on going regularly with like 10 bucks an evening for like a month to see if I can get anywhere.

Do you know how to Fauntless Defense cancel down K (His downwards spinny move in the air) yet?

If not that's your number one thing to practice right now.

Work on using bomb bags, the full screen scappel stab, 2S, and 6A

As well as learning when it's a good time to use an item toss

Yeah, I see that there's not much info yet on Faust in the wiki or his subforums. Your best bet is probably to watch videos, and just read up on Faust strategy from older games. (Did you see his Guilty Bits video? Even if some of his moves changed, he's still got the same fundamentals, including the faultless drill cancel Q just mentioned, which gives him another overhead/throw-bait option and more unpredictable air movement.)

theres 5-6 asus monitors + 1 benq at next level so im not sure what youre talking about

Were these recently added?

Because people use to complain about the setups at NextLevel on Bum's stream.

You can even check previous streams for people here talking about it too when players would complain.

Fuck it put up Ex2+ on stream anyway.

Yeah, it's weird at first but once you get the hang of it it's pretty simple and comes natrually. I'm not sure about in Xrd yet but I know Chipp players had to learn how to do it in all other versions as well to be any good.
I'm curious, what did Chipp players cancel? I think I still see them stopping in mid-air, but I never knew which move started it. Is it the shuriken?

Indeed, and I-No does the same sort of thing with her jump dust, except if you do it wrong you get a burst. :-o

j.1K, hold the input, press another button like plinking in SF4 or Marvel (on pad punch is the easiest to press with it stick Slash is a bit easier)

Thanks for the advice so far.

I know I'm supposed to do the faultless defense cancel drill thing, but hadn't realized I needed to plink the inputs. Is it a really fast plink or is it slower/timing-based (like plinked magnetic blasts)?

By full screen scalpel stab, do you mean the hcf.K move? I read most of Faust's accent core wiki- is it the same in Xrd where the move is used as a frame trap from long range pokes? What's 2S for- just a good poke? I didn't use any of his rug teleport moves really- they seemed unsafe/gimmicky- I guess you need to roman cancel them to get real use out of them or something? Maybe you can use them to punish predictable zoning?

I was having some trouble anti-airing with 6A because I was getting crossed-up (by a Chipp player). In that situation I guess I should be using a different anti-air?

I had no idea what I was doing when I was playing the other day. I did jump H a hell of a lot and cancelled into that spinny move on hit. I would try to poke on the ground with 5S and cancel into item toss and just went for basic combos into pogo -> spinny from pogo. I didn't know what to do when getting rushed down by Chipp/Sol though. Should I look to alpha counter or something?

It's been there for almost a year now, people just like to make stuff up. Noone plays marvel on the big tv's everyone plays on the ASUS monitors which you cant see on camera.
People who think the EC scene is bad now, it would be horrible if Next Level closed up shop believe that

Edit: You can see the ASUS monittors behind the player camera on the left side

How are your pools looking? You're in the shark pit for SFIV right?

My Marvel pool has Wentinel, GCYoshi, and Taekua, with Taekua and GCYoshi being in the lower end of the bracket and Wentinel being in the upper end (I'll face him 3rd round if we both stay in Winner's!).

So I'm a bit more confident for that. Plus Marvel is my better game and I've been working on a new team a bit, so I feel like, at the least, I could (hopefully, knock on wood!) make it out of my first Marvel pool.

I face Justin Wong first round in AE, and AE is a game I'm not too great at, so I'm not expecting much anymore compared to what I was before I saw pools, lol.

Did you click the days? lol

LOL, didn't even know I could do that. Just shows how free I am. Thanks!

Edit: In pool 11 for Marvel and 14 for AE... so I don't even play until Saturday?

That is very sad to hear.

I know you, Spooks, and NextLevel do the best you can with the limited resources available.

If MS were smart they would hook up a few Xbox One setups & sticks for NextLevel simple marketing we are looking at 5,000+++ viewers tuning in every week so what better what to show off a game such as KI.
