Fighting Games Weekly | May 12-18 | The Bracket Racket

That's probably the worse excuse ever for tier-whoring... :D

The other excuses are that the team is just bloody fun, that I like that slightly criminal feeling when my characters are a tad too good for comfort, and that I don't want to blame my characters for my losses. If I know they have the tools to handle anything, it means I just have to figure stuff out and improve my own play.

Better? :P

The prospect of not having online play in SSFIV for a couple of months on PC is making me want to pick up KOFXIII again. But I just realized I can't get into it because I still haven't found a solid team :x It'd be cool if KOF had a single-character scene.

Pick Clark, and season Team to taste.

Its cool to learn. Fun to watch. For me at least.

That's cool. It's just me. I don't judge other people's tastes.

Ed Ma. Going from being the best Akuma player in the U.S to losing to Noel Brown who's Vega is like not even top 100 in the U.S.

O_o
I don't believe you. I mean, I have to tierwhore just to avoid dabbling with like a dozen different characters and getting nowhere because there are so many fun ones.
I mostly like King, Robert, Hwa Jai, Joe and Athena. I can't figure out which characters I should focus on :P

BTW online is pretty bad in KOF on Steam :( Not as bad as on PS3, but still pretty bad.

Not bad! Not bad at all.
Ever considered politics? ^^

I may have to borrow some of those once I start playing Poison...

It's been fine for me. Then again, I live in Finland.

Out of those, hm. The best characters are King, Hwa and Athena for sure. Joe has a godlike CD (+5 on block wtf), and Robert's neomax is silly (4f start, 0 on block), but they're otherwise a tad iffy. Then again ECT Top3 had a Robert. And Haregoro exists.

King/Athena/Hwa would be my recommendation, but things like King/Joe/Hwa and Athena/Joe/Hwa seem solid enough as well. Basically, you want Hwa anchor, a fireball character on point, and the middleman can be anyone out of those, just depends on what you like to do.

Not bad! Not bad at all.

I'd rather die.

Not surprised that Ed Ma isn't as good now. He's in Montreal now and the comp there is nowhere near as good as what Ed had in the US, plus he's probably putting in crazy hours at his new job.

I think we'll see more Yun, but it shouldn't be a big problem. Other characters will get their red focus setups too and Yun always felt like he had counters.
I agree, T Hawk and Sagat got buffed which are his tougher matchups so I don't see him riding that high in the tier list. Plus he really doesn't have anti-airs besides upkicks so his defense can be more limited.

Gaf I've noticed that lately, one of my TE's buttons keeps getting "stuck" at an annoyingly frequent rate. How can I fix that?

I use massage oil (...hey... ladies love it when you know.. yea I'm stop here).

I just dip a Q-Tip in it and then go over the outer ring of the buttons. A couple hours later works like normal.

I'm sure Markman has much better tips, but hey that works for me!

The two most common causes of something like this are either the button is dirty in some way (so it just needs to be cleaned) or the microswitch is dying (which can be easily replaced, but you would have to source one from somewhere).

Usually it's dirty, you can just take it apart easily and clean it. If something is wrong with the switch you can just replace the button, the things do get worn out.

Pop the center plunger part out of the button and clean off any gunk on it or the surrounding outside part of the button that might have accumulated. Depending on how much you use a stick, it's something you have to do every once in a while.

Always wondered why my buttons stick. Hopefully the same fix will work for me.
Also Zissou did we ever put a deadline on our bet about SNKP announcing a new fighter this year?

Haha, forgot about that! We can make the deadline December 31st for all I care- I still think the chances of it happening are nil.

Dang, a 10 year old with his parents watching him play an M rated game.
M rating is basically like R rating. As long as you have a parental guardian it's fine.

When I saw The Passion of the Christ in theater there were so many families there... a lot of them with little kids (under 10 years old).

I am not cool with kids playing Grand Theft Auto. That earns you an automatic failure as a parent in my book. The Passion of the Christ is the exception, not the rule.

You missed a spiderman/deadpool/raccoon team.

You must be crazy if you thought I'd miss NeoRussell's craziness lol, every time he won a match I was like HOW

Also I spoke to Ed Ma a bit today and yea, he said he doesn't really play anymore but came down for this tournament. He was one of the creators of Playstation All stars right?

Pretty much everyone I know played GTA III when they were 9 or even previous GTAs and turned out pretty fine. Instances of sociopathic behaviour and violent video games has always been the exception, not the rule.

Kids below 10? Ok but kids in their teens? I think that's fine for GTA.

Otherwise my parents are big failures. Let me play MK when I was 6. GTA3 when I was 13. And a crap ton of other M rated games in between like Duke Nukem and Resident Evil.

I feel that playing M rated games is way tamer than watching many R rated movies. I feel many kids can tell that games are fake and many characters in games are caricatures where as in movies many characters and actions are portrayed in a more realistic manner.

I rather have my kids play something more goal focused maybe with some puzzles or reaction based stuff to get their motor skills up and adaptive thinking up. Maybe something like Minecraft for creativity.

The problem with GTA is that it's pretty fucking mindless on all accounts. Not to mention the humor is fucked up in it.

I think it really depends on the movie's and the game's content. Some stuff get's over rated or under rated.

But for the most part it really depends on the kid in question, every kid is different and absorbs things differently

A lot of kids actually do play Minecraft.

But many of them play mindless shooters and GTA as well. Whenever I go to my local LAN center there are always a few young kids playing some random shooter and cursing like its going out of style.

Not all "M" games are created equal. Mortal Kombat is just violent. GTA has you killing cops, participating in drug exchange, and using prostitutes. I don't think there is a set age on these things, but it should be based on the maturity of the child. A lot of young teenagers idolize the GTA lifestyle without knowing anything about what it's really like. And I teach middle school kids these days, so I have a pretty large reference base to pull from.

I played Duke Nuken 3D when I was 7ish. Way more fucked up than any GTA game, at least in how easy it is to actually understand the fucked up parts of the games.

Has way more to do with how you teach kids to approach and discern fiction from reality than it does any specific part of the experience that can be emulated in another medium, interactive or otherwise.

Yeah but in a sense it's you versus aliens like a movie where you are the clear good guy and the bad guys couldn't possibly exist.

And no Duke Nukem is not more fucked up than any GTA game :lol

yup. HFCS. found in plenty of "natural" OJs.

This is a good answer and I agree with it. It boils down to child maturity really.

Also I feel like GTA is the exception rather than rule for M rated games. Most games are M rates due to violence. I would have no problem with my kid playing DMC or COD because they feature some standard violence (DMC in general is fairly tame with the exception of DmC) as long as I have ascertained that they don't act out what they see and can tell real life from fiction.

Duke Nukem is definitely more fucked up with respect to how gory it was and representations of women. I still remember my cousin going on a shooting spree through a strip club-esque level, going through the booths and all.

I didn't even know about the prostitution stuff in GTA until I was in my teens. Let alone any of the aforementioned fucked up humour.
