I don't know how anyone can watch Big House 4 and think any game is going to replace Melee anytime soon. The energy of the game is so easily relatable and transferrable.

I think the question is coexistence more than it is replacement. Even if a game that's effectively better at being Melee than Melee happens, a significant portion of people would still just stick with Melee because of nostalgia, familiarity, etc.

Just watch in a few years when Melee gets re-released for Wii U or whatever the Nintendo console is at that time. The cycle will continue and you will get the NOOOOO WAYYYYYY reactions and all.

If it's not a Smash game it won't matter, just like it doesn't for any other franchise. If it is a Smash game, I think people would leave Melee behind, just like with any other franchise.

I think I might play Melee this weekend for a bit...

Not that I hate Smash 4, I think it's fun. But with how it plays, 3DS controls, and TBH4, I want to play it again.

Keep in mind that a lot of players did switch from Melee to Brawl... at least initially. Brawl was the bigger game for at least 2-3 years after its launch. If Brawl was even half as good as Melee was, I don't think this crazy resurgence with SSBM happens. Look at what happened with MvC3 and how most of the MvC2 players ended up moving over -- that's where the action was and it was "good enough", whereas Brawl wasn't.

SSB4 is a lead pipe lock to see a ton of action... at launch, anyway. From there, who knows -- and this could very well depend on if Sakurai/Namco decide to make any balance adjustments with the presumed DLC updates.

Smash 4 is also currently being run on handhelds so there's also that

Enzo has it right. I love watching Melee, but I know I'll never be able to compete in it. I really enjoy Smash 3DS so far, and despite its flaws I think it's a solid game. I also consider myself halfway decent at it and would love to have it at Evo next year so I have a game I can compete in >.>

Some crazy XBL deals on WB games ATM:

Injustice Season Pass - $7.49 - 50% off
Injustice: Gods Among Us - $6.59 - 67% off
Mortal Kombat vs. DCU - $4.99 - 75% off
Mortal Kombat Season Pass - $4.94 - 67% off
Mortal Kombat - $5.99 - 70% off

I'm saying this all in the context that it's a Smash game. I think Smash [Melee] really is a unique case. Hard to apply any trends to that game in general, it's already surmounted trial-by-sequel. The longevity is unreal.

MK deal is good as it's less than most copies of Komplete Edition you'll find but Injustice is only good if you only want the base game. Season Pass is 7.50 but you still need 10 for MMH/Zatanna and you're getting no costumes for a total of $23 but Amazon has Ultimate Edition new for $20.

GGXrd Demo details should be going up sometime today.

Oh, God yes.

Famitsu has a new interview up with Ono which goes over Darkstalkers (Resurrection didn't sell what they wanted), SFxT (Thinking he would like to do one more patch if they could get the budget approved), stuff about F2P and iOS, little talk about other fighters out there. There is also some stuff form what appears to be the newly approved casino business in Japan.

There will be another interview and it looks like it will touch on Rival Schools.

Another interview dedicated to JUST rival schools?

I still have pristine unopened copies of Project Justice and Rival Schools so I'm fucking ready to go for a third one

Man, I feel bad for what I had to put Google Translate through with this. Super rough, but I don't think there's much of note here, besides some skepticism of the F2P model.

Marth is just annoying to use on the 3DS right now : /

It honestly feels alien playing so many other characters and neglecting Marth in a Smash game for this long so far. At the same time, I miss fast fall uair enough that I'll put any further development of the character on hold for now.

Has anyone gotten good doing those new dashdancing and ground techniques yet? I want to see what the full implications of them are but I'm so ass at handling the 3DS.

I can do them but I don't use Marth outside of Melee. (Switched to Lucas in Brawl/Project M) I use Ness, Robin, and Little Mac in Smash 4.

You need to add me btw (and the rest of you guys too!)

US 3DS: 0688-5275-6848
JP 3DS (has a capture card if you want me to record matches) : 2681-1157-3404

PM me please if you added me.

Does hitting a grounded opponent with her forward air(or whichever one i was) leave you at disadvantage like with Marth?
It's kind of the same. I've learn to just keep spacing it. If they're at low percent, I'll never do a landing fair just because it's suicidal. Rising fair until I rack up percent, then just space the rest.
Minato add me on 3DS man!

Oh right. I'll send a PM with my code in case you don't see this.

Whenever I watch PM there is something off about it. Dunno if it's the fall speeds. Maybe the overall character designs. They feel unnatural in some way.

Still haven't watched the whole top8 cause Smash takes forever but I'm halfway through it and it's been insanely good.

But habits are so hard to break. :(

It is :( But I'm getting more comfortable with Marth and Lucina and they don't feel as bad as I thought (but they're not amazing either). Forward tilt, Up Smash out of shield, and going way off/below stage to edge guard is really helping. I still have issues against anyone that's a big body opponent though. I feel like they're comfortable with taking the risk for a good reward at the moment, so they're likely going to mash whatever at times.

Why not make assets for both and stagger their releases? :O

Well they ported 4 characters across. That's enough really.

Will have to give that a read.

Because Melee is one of those game where the developer really outdid themselves and the community showcased the potential. (See MvC2)
