Final Fantasy 14 patch 2.3: Defenders of Eorzea trailer

Where is Ishgard supposed to be in relation to the current ARR areas?

In the north/central landmass in the Abalathian Spine. Here it's denoted with a blue flag with a red crest on it. "Ishgard" in Eorzean alphabetic script is above it.

Very cool trailer indeed, and there's even Organization XIII lol ~
So crystal tower ends here? I've seen the sky at the top of it...

interesting, what's the city on the north of LL?
the one on the east of gridania is ala mhigo right?

There's no city north of Limsa Lominsa on the landmass of Vylbrand, just a great volcano called O'ghomoro. Yes, Ala Mhigo is east of Gridania in Gyr Abania.

This is all of Eorzea that is presently available to us. So, considerable room to expand even within the region, let alone world.

No, there's two more tiers to it
Never believe your eyes with these things

Yeah it would be a bit strange for it to end here considering there's no Cloud of Darkness to be found. Well I guess a teleport will take you to a different dimension outside the physical tower itself.
It's now almost time to get back to play, there's plenty of content for me that left so long ago :D

In FF3, which is what Crystal Tower comes from, there are multiple parts. The labyrinth of the ancients, the tower itself, Eureka, and the dark world.

Is there still a weekly limitation to Bahamut's Coil T6+? Same question regarding Syrcus Tower.

I'd love the hear the full song of Bahamut's fight. I was quite disappointed by Leviathan, but this one seems gorgeous.

Edition: Did they mention anything about FATE farming for the [insert name that I forgot] weapons?

Yeah, and I even finished the game on DS but I can't remember a fuck ahah. My memory doesn't exist -.-'

i was referring to that sharlayan city in your map
don't think i've heard it mentioned in game, what's the story there?

Wait, Zodiac Braves? i had missed that.
I'm still waiting for the Eorzea==Ivalice; Mind==blown reveal.

From what I've gathered the people of Sharlayan migrated from their original home to Eorzea and have something of a settlement or city there -- we haven't seen it or have been told of its size. Many scholars gather there including the Students of Baldesion, which have some relationship to Minfilia, the Antecedent of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn. We think they share information on the Primals, Twelve, and other threats to Eorzea.

The track played during the Hullbreaker Isle clip took me back. That was basically one of the first songs we've heard for XIV. I can't recall where or if they put it in ARR. It's nice that Ishgard is finally coming along.

I wonder how similar Chocobo Raising is to FFXI's. If those are just cutscene clips, then it looks rather similar.

I think I'll try a welcome back campaign, although I have no interest in grinding, since I don't seek to put too much of an investment into the game. My problem is that have an intense negative reaction just thinking about the game's design and generic MMO-ness.

You need to log into the PS3 version once though so that I registers to your S-E account. Also read everything carefully before you hit next. :p S-E is a pain to deal with if something goes wrong.

Okay thanks will take my time with it all then. Got the day off work tomorrow anyway so no rush. I'm assuming I can grind through the start of the game solo?

Used to play WoW a lot but gave it up after clearing Firelands and the guild lost interest.

You know why FF14's been doing so well since Realm Reborn? Square practically includes a dump truck's worth of content in every patch.

We had a discussion on why FF14 doesn't have an amazing amount of content last thread so there's no need to retread it here...

Is this based on the fact most of it becomes useless as you progress? I think they do add a lot, but the game operates on a very wasteful design.

Nah, if you played since launch and especially if you cleared content as they came, there's nothing much that can sustain you in between patches unless you're gearing your fourth or fifth class.

I think you could still say it's wasteful, because the alternative is an amount of content per update that is likely unrealistic.

It honestly depends on your personal play style, some are going to run though things a lot faster than others. There are hardcore groups that have Second Coil done and out of the way already, but they're a very small percentage.

There will always be a desire for more content, especially stuff that caters to people who enjoy different kinds of things to do.

I think they do fine considering.

Amazing? No. Sufficient? Yep.

I really wish they would roll out these updates as a title update days before implementing them, and not from within the game on launch day. It seems I'm having 2-day pauses every time I get back into the game lately.

Also: can I download the update without an active subscription? Renewing and losing 2 days at the start is not exactly starting on a happy note.

Will probably play again, mostly to try some casual Frontline.

Can we still expect the first expansion and/or dx11 this year ?

Not on PS4 at least. It's really irritating as I like to keep up-to-date.

Stone Vigil hard mode? Oh Lord. Is there a more frustrating dungeon than Stone Vigil? I love the thing but Jesus, I've lost count of the number of times I've been in games that were abandoned because the tanks didn't have the right gear on or they ran around like headless chickens pulling everything in sight.

just watched the trailer, ok that was good
even got me somewhat curious on chocobo raising, haven't touched him since forever

i'll definitely gonna try out frontlines and the hunts though

Great looking update. Good amount of content to hold me over until 2.4.

I really hope Frontlines is good. It's my kind of PvP.

I'm constantly wowed by the amount of content we get per patch.

Compare Bray regular which is a pretty long and potentially tiring dungeon to Bray hard which is joke status.

I'm watching you! Resenting you as every % ticks by on this update.

We're expecting the expansion reveal to be at the Fan Festival in October, but it'll be in 2015 for sure.

DX11? Still in the works.
Better than nothing I guess. But they it's definitly not on track with what was first expected. :/ DX11 was at some point announced as maybe being released before ps4 version, then it became "after the first expansion" I think. And I'm pretty sure the first expansion was supposed to be a one year after release thingy.

Still like the game and it's support, and mostly play less because my friends stopped playing for personnal reasons; but it's still disapointing to me.

Will play if GuyIncognito plays again. Can anyone tell me if he is active right now?

FF14 was an awesome experience and I loved the month which I played. Even killed Titan Hard Mode with you guys <3

Eh, I'm not going to argue it again here. You can read it on the other thread if you want.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=833494

You don't do much arguing in that thread actually. Someone brings up the idea that A Realm Reborn is being made at a much more demanding level of quality in terms of assets than WoW (mainly back then, but even now) and this is before considering in how little time they made the game. I would put forth that given that's the case (and looking at this trailer, how could it not be lol) they've gone out of their way to make a game that gets as little millage out of it as possible, namely in how linear/narrow progression is (and has to be, given the way stats are). I also believe it lacks community (and economy) hooks, in and out of the endgame, that dynamically creates ways for players to spend time with the game and get attached. To put it simply, ARR's pipeline makes FFXI's look like crap, but the latter was able to do as much or even more with a little, because it had some level of efficiency that ARR will now never be able to have. This is why I call it wasteful. (I visualize it as trying to build tracks in front of a locomotive.)

Square adds a lot of content and assets but fails to utilize most of it anywhere near as effectively or thoroughly as the rest of the games in the genre. That's the reality of their current setup, with a few tweaks I'd have significantly more to do.

Patch looks like a lot of fun though, looking forward to it.

Frontlines could be cool, if they don't fuck it. (Everything related to pvp has been a disaster so far)
Ramuh will be the usual primal scripted fight.
Mob hunts could be fun, if they don't make them daily.
The new "hard mode" dungeons will be easier than normal mode.
Chocobo raising could be cool, though I read you will be able to pretty much paint your chocobo, so what's the point?
Everything related to crafting will be useless as usual
Surprise is probably Shiva

I don't mind Bray regular too much. I haven't seen anywhere near the same amount of team abandons and walkouts as Stone. I haven't tried Bray hard though, which I could imagine being a pain in the ass

I don't have nearly as much experience as you guys - but couldn't this be remedied by adding content to existing areas? Maybe making what's already there a bit more dense? Giving people reasons to go back and level up other classes instead of steaming forward with the end game?
