Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster (1-6) | E3 Reveal

I don't understand why they don't just follow what Dragon Quest did and go the Octopath style? is that difficult?
If we are blessed by the Shiva Gods then yes someday we will get it in the octopath style.

Might have to sacrifice a few Chocobo's as an offering.

I'll get FF III for sure. Finally a proper 2D version released.

Should have included the original NES sprite too for the Fighter. Or the SNES for FF VI.

But in guess since it makes it obvious the new one is based on the originals made the image too impartial for internet bashing purposes. (extra useless PSP Knight to stir some shit)

But still why loosing detail in FFV or VI? Just to make the colection consistent isn't worth it.

Sorry for the extra post, but to clarify I meant that Snes IV is missing, not VI. NeoGaf doesn't let me correct a gaffe after 5 minutes (with good reason)

Where is the "remaster" here? They could at least go with an "Octopath Traveler" type 3D throwback vibe on these. Release them one at a time in that style with improved soundtracks (same songs, just upgraded behind the 8 bit/16 bit console sounds) and boom, I will buy these all day for $20-30 a piece. Plus they won't be too crazy advanced that you can't put them on switch or mobile devices. "Pixel perfect" is something I can get on my emulator on my Series X, or my shitty work laptop, or my android phone......What a waste....

If not for the super hi res menus and horrible font would be decent enough... I don't understand why most devs think the UI is not part of the game. Fucking pixellate that shitto!

So after seeing a couple of my ios purchases get updated, I thought, hey, theyll just overwrite with the new version. Nope. Those, as well as the Steam VI, (which was a regretful purchase) arent getting overwritten. Nope. They want you to buy em again. Thats right. Two different versions of VI, both of which apparently will look like trash.

I'd also love to see a version of the original FFVII with the same polygonal graphics and rendered backgrounds sharpened and polished in 4K

Why can't they just offer pixel-perfect ports with touch controls? It'd require little resource and fans would appreciate it. That's what they (half-assedly) did with FF7 and while it's a bit clunky it's serviceable.

If you don't want to spend the money to make a worthy "remaster" don't do it. I mean, look at "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time."

Remember contrast? I miss that before everything became smeared and blended together
I know, but designers have convinced themselves that flat is somehow more and it let you see more details. Things have been this way for a while, here is an example:

SF II Ken - Full of shades and colorful!

SF Alpha Ken -- Bland/boring

I know a lot of people like how this game looks, but I always preferred the OG SF II style (along arcade games of that era)

Compare this with the Dragon Quest 3 Remaster we're getting:

and in this one the high resolution menus don't look out of place too! But I think they are over doing it with the bokey, it makes everything look like small models as opposed to life size, especially in the battle screenshot.

Yeah, no idea why they wouldn't remake them with new 4K 2D art.. hard to decide on a style? Or styles?
I mentioned this in another version of this thread, but I wish they had actually built a "Final Fantasy Classic Engine" for these Pixel Remasters, so that you could choose your style and not have to buy the version that looks the most correct to you (if they even have it for that platform.) Sort of like Master Chief Collection, run the new game engine on top of the runsystems of the old game code.

Choose original NES graphics, WSC/PSP retouched graphics, iOS redrawn graphics, DS 3D graphics (starting with those already done,) maybe some day DQ-3D/Octopath graphics, etc. Choose the translation, choose the soundtrack, choose the font style (I have no idea what's going on in these screens with the tiny text, btw?) Customize each game for the way you want to play. A lot of this could be DLC, so instead of brand new releases of the games we have to grumble about never being perfect, they could instead have one "perfect original" version and release add-ons that let players choose how to enhance it while also making GaaS out of 30-year-old game releases.

Seems like a ton of work, though, for something that's not going to sell like Halo. Clearly just a cheap cash-grab now, but.. there's a happy medium.

Maybe? (Kind of maybe, though? Having sprite overlays and ROM patches and realtime shaders and in-game modifications has been a thing in emulators for a while. What I'm talking about is a little bigger, especially if there was an idea of totally stacking the render as its own execution of the original running game instead of just patching the snot out of the original, but programs like 3DSEN layer a new visual component and even sound on top of a running emulator.)

However, the six Final Fantasy games will never go out of favor, and then there are other Square and Enix properties they could apply a Classic Engine, plus Taito as well. There are a lot of games that could be featured in a series of remaster packages.

Ultimately, it's much easier said than done to "just put new graphics over old graphics" (there's all the complications of building accurate mechanics without bolted-on graphic pieces conflicting, plus simply the matter that in tile-based game design, the graphic components don't actually "exist" until the game loads and places them, and what we think of as a "map" is really a set of instructions that draws something that makes sense when it is called to do so; 3D doesn't have easy answers all the time either.) But options are out there, and it could be worth IMO finding a way to offer audiences an official product that really feels like it serves every fan's expectations of options.

So basically those new pixel remaster are all inferior to all version come before . No GBA content , No PSP content , no NDS QoL or rework battle system , bad front.
Until this day I guess only FF10 and FF12 are the only one with definitive edition on modern system

Ouch. Well I don't like the look of it. But I like the monsters look. I have the feeling they just made the character uglier and more "flat" (less depth with the shading).
I just can't understand why not just re releasing the original game. Just fixe the bugs and add some QoL if you want. Why change an aesthetic that most of the people don't want to be change ?

Also a non pixel font on a pixel art game is a non sense.

Come on now, you have to be cautiously optimistic about stuff like this! Sure it may suck, but searching for a tiny bit of happiness in a big pile of shit is all we have left to live for.

I can't believe they are trying to sell this for nearly $100 ($75 on sale!) without even showing a single screenshot. SE are a joke.

Why does SE keep fucking up remasters so badly. Who looked at that font and thought it was a good idea? Why do they have to be so fucking greedy with the price for such low effort?
