Final Fantasy Type-0 (Fan) Translation Released

So the main story has been translated, but they were going to push it back to August to fix a lot of the npcs? Well, can't wait to try it out regardless!

I really need a certain level of fundamental base competence from a publisher before I start to sympathize with fan projects interfering with their plans. SE has cultivated the market for fan patches of their games with their dramatic reduction of localizations and their extremely poor handling of major titles in their catalog.

If SE really was working again on this game for an upcoming US release (which I doubt), the correct approach would have been to announce it in the US a few months ago and cut the patch off at the pass.

but remember crimson echoes that get C&D just a few days before release.... :(

It would really help fan translation threads a lot if people could learn and remember the difference between a translation patch (that maintains gameplay and merely converts the text to a new language) and a total conversion mod (that essentially creates an entirely new game using the original's engine.) The latter is always going to be at risk for legal action; the former really is not.

Oh, I know that. But it was still a bitch move from SE

Thank you!
This is something I'm shocked how many fail to wrap their mind around this. It isn't like they're reproducing assets used for a fan project (IE: like that Chrono Trigger fan project people like to bring up), but are just translating a script.
Yes they don't legally own the script to the game, but they aren't profiting from it, or using it within another work, nor are they providing the source material to apply their translation to (since that would be illegal) so there isn't really course for legal action.

I'm obviously speaking just for myself but I alluded to the C&D just for a potential warning from SE that Type-0 might be localized, and since your announcement is the day right before E3 I'm sure I'm not the only one that thought it's, at least, kinda suspicious.
I don't care about your project's "safety" or SE's potential loss of sales but only about the game, which is probably one of the best FF in recent memory and deserves to be successful even if it's handled by fucking SE, so I said that I hope you're not doing this just because you know something that we don't because IF you know that, even if you're just assuming it because you received a C&D, and you still want to release it, you're actively hurting the game's potential success and that's the exact opposite of what a fantranslation project's purpose should be. That's all.

Now, I don't think they'll localize it and I know that you said you didn't receive anything and I believe you, but that timing sure sounds fishy.

...what?

Why are you passionately lecturing about a hypothesis you have absolutely no evidence for, and that is actually extremely unlikely to be true? And even assuming for the sake of argument that it is true, and this group received a C&D and somehow knows about an incoming localization, I highly doubt a fan translation patch would meaningfully impact Type-0's sales. It's a very niche project, and presumably the great majority of people applying the patch have already bought the game - possibly because of it. But let's assume, also, that the patch would hurt sales. So what? It's a perfectly legitimate project, and the fact that fans have the power to take it into their own hands to make a game accessible to more people is a great thing. SE badly mismanaging the game's distribution is their own responsibility, not that of the passionate fans you seem weirdly eager to actively express indifference toward.

All in all, I came into the thread expecting good news and happiness, so it's somewhat jarring to see people seemingly wishing ill on the project for basically no reason.

This totally throws off my time table. Gonna squeeze it in before Divinity comes out in ~2 weeks. Can't wait to play it.

So how good is this FF? I almost get a FF8 vibe with the school, but the combat looks like an action rpg.

The combat is an ARPG, and the FF8 vibes are intentional. It plays sort of like Crisis Core but more fluidly. Honestly the only parts of the game I did not enjoy were the RTS segments. The rest of it I felt was a very solid game. If you think of it as a sort of spiritual successor to Crisis Core it's really quite awesome.

I just ordered a 4 GB memory stick, so I can fit the ISO on there after I've applied the patch. Fingers crossed that I get a non-fake stick. It was only like $15, so the risk isn't that great.

so i just read the news that se will be dropping some ff type 0 announcements at e3.

that might be the reason why they're releasing the patch early.

If Square does announce the game, great, I'll buy it (again) and play it to my heart's content.

They don't announce it, I've bought the game and I'll play it to my heart's content.

Either way, I win.

Care to point out where you read it?

What news?

translated tweet.

tweets were deleted, btw.

Meh. I don't care if they do announce an official English release at E3. This fan translation is good enough for me. Square Enix had the chance to get my money, but they've missed it.

maybe you should read past the first line before hitting 'new reply'.

1. Please dont be a douchebag.
2.I did, and my question stands.
3.No seriously, dont be a douchebag.

Your tweets are nebulous, vague, and they are not in perfect English. Just because someone says Type 0 does not mean SE France was, and does not give you license to be an asshole.

B.K you should probably edit that post, just in case.

Why? I haven't bought a Japanese version of the game yet, but when I do, I'll buy a used copy from Ebay or from the Amazon Marketplace. I'm not giving Square Enix a dime for the game though.

From these tweets it seems that SE is teasing the announcement of an English version of Agito at E3.
I really doubt they are going to announce a real Type-0 localization.

oh please. one person said agito, another person asked about type 0. both were replied to by square enix. how the hell you arrived to the conclusion that squeenix was excluding type 0 or was exclusively talking about agito is beyond me.

I loved the game when I couldn't even understand the language, pretty excited for this patch. Even with the patch I still wouldn't be too disappointed if Square decides to bring the game overseas.

Square Enix of France. It's a known fact that the Branches of NA and EUR have garbage relations with the JP branch. You can't take anything they say with 100% certainty.

If it means anything...

On May 16th, SE France teased Type-0 related stuff.

https://twitter.com/ffworldcom/status/466978799721390080

Just a quick run through with my (albiet) limited french

FF World: "Agito releases today in Japan!"

James Grayson: "When are we getting Type-0 in Europe? Square Enix France?"

FF World: "With this teasing, if you disappoint us you'll get 30 lashes"

SE France: "They will be paid, expensive lashes, no?"

SE France: "But seriously, there will be announcements at E3, don't miss it"

*bunch of replies I ain't bothering with*

SE France: "It's one of our small surprises at E3 ...(Something)"

That's SE France teasing the international release of Agito, the mobile spin-off/re-telling of Type 0 with microtransactions and other fantastic must have videogame shit.

1. You're still being a douchebag. We talked about this. Please read.
2. Don't tell people to read when you didnt read the thread. That makes you a hypocrite and a douchebag.
3.How did you arrive at your conclusion without Square saying Type-0? They said Agito, which gasp is a different game from Type-0! My question arose from things discussed in this thread, which you clearly did not read before you hit new reply and made a douchey remark to me. I mean all you have to do here is not be a douchebag. All you had to do in the beginning was not be a douchebag. There was no cause for you to do so, and there still is no reason nor need for you to do so. We can all be here and be excited about this game. Who didn't read what is beyond the fact. That you can't understand tweets or be bothered to read the thread before you post tenuously reliable information and then snap at people for daring to question it based upon conversations in which you did not take part through your own sloth is irrelevant. Let's just all be happy the patch is coming out and not be douchebags to each other? Can't we do that?

It will be funny if they announce a localization for the game since all of or so called insiders didn't hint at it.

We already knew the iOS/Android would be coming.

Well, you could say that some of those insiders are retired, so even if something were known, it wouldn't necessarily be posted about.

"Operation Suzaku" is very passionate in suggesting people to wait for E3 lately on their FB and Twitter account before downloading the translated-patch. This with the rushed release of the patch really lets you think a type-0 official announcement is behind the corner...

my guess is an hd version of both agito and type 0 for the ps3/vita. squeenix seems to be on that boat right now of hd re-releases.

I'm not really interested in Agito because it looks trash, but as an added bonus I would give it a chance obviously. Type-0 is where my interest really lies. This announcement could save an E3 already ruined for me with a lack of any FFXV related news.

So... let's hope for it!

PS: they also had almost 3 yrs to develop this "hd" version, I hope they took some time in really making it great for HD screens.

Even if they announce it at E3, I'm still going to play the patch, tbh. It's like what happened with Danganronpa, the fan patch didn't affect the sales, hell, it probably increased the sales by introducing people to it before the localisation,

If SE announces it at E3, woohoo, they have my preorder the same day! If they don't, then I can go back to my save file on the patch.

And the scenario where the translators have knowledge of this that all the rest of us lack and yet are responding to it by actually publishing the patch is... what, exactly?

Insiders? Kagari knew FFXV was not going to be at the show, someone else might know Type-0 is now part of the show.

I am going to play as Trey as much as possible.

Look at that suave bastard.

It's really probably just Agito if we're lucky.

I find it hard to believe that they would port Type-0 when they've just made a moblie version of the game.It would be a waste of money and remember that SE didn't want to localie PSP version because of sales. If anything it's going to be Agito.

The mobile version of the game is not the same as the PSP version. The gameplay is largely different (but still revolving in school life and the use of time as currency for events and battles) and the story is also different. Different iteration of the same world and characters with a different story. Story spoilers
Agito is the first cycle of what was a cycle of 6 billion cycles or so to achieve the goals that the avatars of Lindzei and Pulse want.
Which makes me wonder how they're going to localise Agito because it spoils Type-0 right in its opening.

We will probably get Type-0 in the future if the company doesn't collapse. It's just a matter of when and where. Maybe 10 years later in a remake for a very hip China Brand cellphone/ OS system.
