Final Fantasy Type-0 PSP vs. PS4 comparison video

Here are some shots of the game running in higher resolution on PPSSPP I found.

I kind of prefer that look, for some reason the HD remaster looks flat and bloomy.
But I appreciate the work they've put into it. Certainly looks beter than the PSP game technically.

Yeah, colors looks so much better on the psp version, dynamic lighitng and stuff seems to have flattened everything a bit...and it also feels more empty for some reason?

I'm not sure what there is to understand. 60FPS factually looks better and plays better. It's kind of a shame they can't get a game that looks like this to be 60FPS.

That said, I'm going to buy this. It looks rough, but Type 0 was a solid game and FF is always good anyway. So I'd like to play a better version.

It looks more fluid but it doesn't look better.

That's because they probably expanded the field of view and moved the camera behind. It's a PSP game afterall. But compared to Birth by Sleep the efforts here are real.

Been considering getting this on the PS4, but can someone explain what the big deal is honestly? I know that a fan made English translation was done (hello FFXII IZJS) for the original, but aside from that, where does it stand next to the other FF games? Or is this just another game that is propped up by massive hype more than the actual gameplay?

Literally every Final Fantasy is really controversial so it's difficult to compare, but most of the hype is because not only is it a "lost" Final Fantasy title, it was also a really impressive looking one at that.

Sure, somehow more fluid movement and animation dosen't look better. Video games aren't movies.

That's debatable.

Show people 2 videos fo a game with one running in 60fps maxed out and 1 running in 30fps maxed out.

Most likely the result will be in favour of the 30fps video.

If you hand them a gamepad it's most likely the other way around.

Wait this is 30fps on PS4? lol I like the simple look but if you're going to go that route it better be locked 60fps

I'm not liking the price tag, and I didn't appreciate the fact that early on I found parts where I felt the need to grind despite completing all the sidequests.

But still, this can't be stated enough: It's by leaps and bounds a much better game than XIII ever was.

I find it ironic that we barely missed the two best Final Fantasy-esque games Square published in the last console generation due to their sheer breathtaking ignorance (Type-0 and Bravely Default).

It's a decent enough HD remaster for sure, but boy sometimes it has such a weird inbetween generation look, as if it comes from a generation of consoles that existed only in some bizarro universe. Falls inbetween a PSP game at times with the assets geometry with some slightly better than 360/PS3 effects implemented over top and much superior image quality. Just a strange mixture.

I hope the game is good. Trusted GAFers impressions have been in a wide range as far as I've followed the game.

There are many games on PS3 that look better IMO (minus the resolution).

Overall it looks as good as I would expect for what they are trying to achieve. It sure looked impressive on PSP. It doesn't look impressive for a PS4 game, but the effects are pretty good and it can look pretty nice at times. Overall I am pretty satisfied. I am anticipating the demo of FFXV much more anyway.

Pick any mainline FF game outside of FF VI and that quote would probably be appropriate.

They actually showed off the RTS portion of the game.

I liked some of the areas more in the PSP version. Mainly indoors areas.

Looks really nice for what I'd normally expect from a HD Remaster. Kinda seems to follow the same route as Wind Waker HD where it looks more washed out than the original, but still really great and amazing at times on its' own.

My only concern is the motion blur, it seems really heavy and makes me feel slight motion sickness. I hope it can be turned down/off.

I see what you're setting. Reminds me of Xenoblade running in Dolphin at 1080p.

The HD version looks a bit too bright and clean to me. It feels like they disregarded the original vision a bit when they upgraded the assets. It looks good overall though.

I love what they've done with the HD version. But I also respect the PSP version. Still looks great to me. Must be one of the best looking PSP games.

Also I noticed the boss(?) they were fighting at the end looked extremely like the
Guard Scorpion
in FF7. Any story behind that? Or just coincidence?

Imo it deserves to be called "remake", remasters usually are just higher res with better textures, and some remake have less improvements than this, that said the PSP version is superior artstyle and tech(considering the platform)-wise, the remaster has nothing of the raw and violent look of the original and excessive blur/bloom/whatever hurt my eyes.

looks close to ffxiv.....which is fine by me. As long as it plays great I'll be real happy. But this is the most any developer has done to an "HD" version to make it up to date.

Love how artifact free the image is.
PSP was a bit of dissapointment as it's texturing quality is a mess. (same/similar to ps2.)

Should look great in remote play.
The pricing of this release is honestly downright offensive.
Really hope we will see a promotion for it within few years.

Yes this is what doesn't sit tight with me. I'm leaning towards buying it, gutting the FFXV demo code and trading it back in. Then buying it later at a good price.

I want to play Type 0 and put off playing the fan translation to wait for it, but as release nears I'm not willing to burn ÂŁ40/$60. ÂŁ25/$40 I'd have been comfortable with.

I cannot believe this is a deal breaker for people.

I totally agree. The amount of work put into this game is staggering. For people to prefer the blockier PSP look, it must be some powerful nostalgia. The game now feels 'alive' and realistic, a major plus given the game's rather dark themes.

It's not the blockier look but the atmosphere that has been lost via the remastering.

Yeah... I wanted it specially for FFXV demo, however the need to pre-order plus the 60 dollars price doesnt feel right at all! Its like asking to be burned again in this industry.

I guess I'll skip the demo, and wait for a price drop. I'd buy it for 40 dollars I think, but 30 dollars would be the ideal price imo.

Were the original's colors actually that dull or is it just the Square remaster trailer magic doing work?

Regardless, looks really good.

The HD version looks great, but still like an upgraded ps2 game.

The pricing is definitely out of hand though. Didn't the KH remake come out at $40 with a ton more content?

Looks good to me. You can't expect the world with a remaster of a PSP game. I think it looks great all things considered.
