The CG looks nice, and I’m very curious on how the gameplay will be like.

Square Enix have to go crazy in this game and make a real next-gen experience for FFXIII.

FFvsXIII >>>>>>>>>Zelda :D
are you people so insecure that you feel the need to bash other games or even bring other games to this thread just to stir some shit?

Hey. Someone wants to talk about the trailer, cool! Your whole "rogue protector" theory is a little out there from where I'm standing, however.

On closer inspection, I can clearly identify some of the Legendary Weapons, but others I am having trouble distinguishing because of their wild design.
So, what's your theory?

I get the "I'm too strong for this world" Sepiroth vibe from this trailer, like when you are at 60th level in the middle of FFXII story.

The game is connected with FFXIII, but it's named vs. Maybe one talks about destruction of the world, and another about creation and shaping of the new world?

Fabula Nova Crystalis seems more epic than any Final Fantasy before, even more epic than most of the movies.

Also, I'm confident in fact that Square Enix will be able to create games that take advantage of PS3 to the fullest, therefore they will be way above other systems achievements.

Are you so insecure that you have to keep posting in this topic? We get it, you dislike FFXII, and you see nothing great in FFXIII, why do you have to respond to posts that flame other games? Jus ignore them :) .

yep I had no concept of graphics back in the amstrad and master system days...haha I remember when I got a new pc and there was this flight sim that was unplayable because it ran too fast on my computer...I had the power for a few minutes there haha

Come on, let's not start a fight over who's more hardcore FF fan in an FFvsXIII trailer topic.

The trailer is great, and for fans of the series opens up lots of space for wondering what's it all about.

Right now I'm totally hyped about the game, and about things that this trailer could indicate. I believe everyone would be excited if not for "FF is bad, it's CGi so don't care, could be done on X360, emo lolz" team.

You explained your opinion, that's great, no need for further discussion about whether it's good or not. Let series fans discuss what's going on in the trailer, and what it might lead to in the final game, you know, the typical stuff that game fans talk about.

I think I'd appreciate this trailer a lot more if there was actual colour involved. FFXIII appeals to me due to the wonderful array of colour shown.

Advent Children had a very mundane feel to it, which is a shame compared to the fairly vibrant colourful original. Its obviously 'in' at the moment to have cloudy skies and monochrome clothing, but its just very, very dull to look at.

I'd much rather the Versus team was working on FFVII ReMake, rather than this. An action RPG version of FF7 in next gen graphics would be delicious, while this just seems to be a sort of "hey its like Advent Children so almost FF7....right? RIGHT?!" attempt.

If it's good then why does it matter?
After you just got through complaining about the whole feel of Advent Children with its monotone, you turn around and wish that they worked on a FFVII ReMake? So they should just swap titles and put cloud in there and it would be all gravy?
This is a WORLD you know...not everywhere is bright and vibrant...

A young anti-hero fights against an oppressive empire, and then you find out the true villain is someone completely different. lol every ff has same plotline lol.

Actually, I was just pointing it out for the purpose of "Cool, he has all the legendary weapons at the start of the game and I recognize this because I'm l22t!"

I was sitting there during the Bahamut scene literally dying of laughter when the FFVII team conveniently lined up to catapult Cloud further and further into the sky culminating ultimately in a last saccharine little push from Aeris. It was the most absurd thing I've seen in an action movie in a looong time, fantasy or not, and any pretense of enjoyment I could have from fattening 'popcorn entertainment' was instantly lost.

So let me get this straight you watched a CGI movie that is based on game thats about fighting huge monsters that are as big as skyscrapers, Heros who carry swords about has long and wide as themselves and perform limit breaks that defy the laws of physics. Characters that can cast magic and summon monsters that can destroy cities....

And you complain about the action in the movie being over the top???

Sorry Amir0x the difference between this and action movies like Transporter 2 and the Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions is that FF:AC is completely CGI and based on a fantasy world where stuff like this happens all the time. The movies like the Matrix look rediculous because they use CGI so damn much. They are movies that are filmed in real life but over use unrealistic action sequences. FF:AC is all CGI and based on a game(which is fantasy) that does absurd unrealistic action sequences. It would make no sense for the world of FF7 to adhere to the laws fo physics when the basic setting and plot of the game is so damn unrealistic.

Sorry but I don't see how you couldn't have expected over the top action sequences from FF:AC. Say you don't like over the top action sequences or they bore you thats fine, but don't say that you were expecting something different from FF:AC.

Looks nice and all, but that was horribly boring. I'd rip my hair out having to sit through that in game.

P.S. What's with FFXII's movies zooming in when you play on widescreen? I guess they just letterboxed them on all TVs, but it's weird as hell. :lol

That's a new big thing in video games, see my avatar? DMC4 uses similiar concept :) .

And Baryn, he was way to bored to be a "good" character. If anything, we could control the bad super powerful guy for the first time in Final Fantasy.

From the looks of it, it would be quite shallow, since that guy can destroy anything on his way, that would suck from gameplay perspective.

Unless........ oh snap.

What if this guy aims to kill the gods? That would be freaking AWESOME story.

I bet he just guards the weapons, waiting 12 warriors to claim them. Or maybe i've just been watching too much Saint Seiya.

I didn't even notice that :o

But look at the lighting in that pic, it's amazing. I also like the colours they used in this scene.

Way too much :) .

He clearly controls all the weapons.

Another theory, maybe these are weapons with "souls"? I be;lieve that concept was already shown in some games.

You know, like summons, only that instead of scary beast you summon a weapon. And you feed it with souls.

nah, i think he´s evil and he has 11 legendary weapons and is looking for the last one :)

Thoughts...

1. Am I the only getting really strong Deep Dive vibes from the beginning of this trailer? Heck, you can even a building the looks exactly like the Skyscraper of Memory in the background! (It's not a FF sequel, it's KH3 in disguise!)

2. Music is easily the best thing about the entire trailer. I would buy an mp3 of that right now if I could. (or resort to, uh, less savory methods if such a thing were not possible.)

3. I don't mean to seem overly critical, but, man, Nomura really needs to take it down a few notches. The main dude looks just like him! Not only that, the whole thing seems, well, a bit navel-gazy and pretentious to be honest.

4. Having seen and heard all this, I really can't wait to see how it plays. If they can take the KH2 battle system and improve it as much as they did KH when they made KH2, I'll be in RPG combat heaven. (and more difficult. Proud was the only setting worth playing on in KH2.)

KH2's fighting was a nightmare! I think I about broke my controller with the ridiculous amount of button-mashing in it. Decent game (didn't bother with the first) and much longer than I expected.

Did you play it on Proud the FIRST time through? It makes a big difference. (If you didn't play Proud till subsequent playthroughs, you were likely too skilled for it to even be a decent challenge anymore.) I definitely experienced less button mashing than the average player. (I distinctly recall the fight with Xaldin. Lots of dodging, limit breaks, and Wisdom Form fighting. Button mashing? Not so much.)

No way, Square isn't going to do that, it isn't their style. Might be kind of cool though.

You're really taking this trailer and running with it!

I thought that was absolutely ****ing awesome. I loved Kingdom Hearts, and I loved the music, and it seems that Shimomura is keeping her same old style for this game too - loved the song. CG or not CG, the whole trailer looked great. More excited about this than FFXIII.

does zelda have anything to do with this topic? oh, yeah.. the posts that so offended you were made by people with zelda avatars.

honest question, how old are you?

I'm 73, young man... 73.

Maybe you should rethink who is getting defensive? Some of you are getting really outraged over this... and for that I apologise. I never intended for any of the serious business Zelda fans to lose any sleep over my disastrously hurtful words. Goddamnit... I'm sorry...

Will you ever accept my forgiveness ?

Great post. I especially like the idea of one game being about destruction and one being about rebirth.

I'm hoping the games connect symbolically as well as having connecting mythos/etc.

Well, isn't one of Fabula Nova Crystalis' big themes "those who go against the world"...?

I'm very much anticipating the XIII project. It seems to be far more organized and structured than the VII "compilation" crap. I like how XIII is actually being planned with other projects in mind, rather than simply deciding to capitalize on its success in 10 years. It looks great and gives me tons of hope, especially after being a little torn on XII's storyline (great game though).

I also love the two main characters we've seen so far, from XIII and vs. XIII. The vs. XIII character looks... maybe a tad run of the mill, but not bad at all. I really like the female character though in XIII.

The collection of swords reminds me of one of the monsters in Castlevania games.
Man, imagine if this plays like a souped up Castlevania. That would be FAN-TAS-TIC!!!

You're not shitting around there. I've been playing Portrait of Ruin and it reminded me of the exact same thing.

whats wrong with the FFXII storyline brandon?> well i havent beaten the game so dont put spoilers

I won't spoil it but... compared to the others, not a lot... happens. And the things that do happen are pretty cool, but it just didn't exactly blow me away or anything. But I haven't beat it yet, though I'm near the end, so maybe the ending will be great and blow me away or something. Oh, and the characters don't really get enough attention or development. I know a lot of people often laugh or scoff at "emotion" in videogames, especially FF games, but I'd rather have that than no attempt at emotion or connection at all.

On the other hand, the game absolutely kicks ass in literally every other area, so if you don't mind a lack of plot attention, you'll be fine. It's a great game overall.

A lot happened, they just didn't bothered to show it ; ;.

Yeah I feel the same. It's as if they can't be bothered with small details like that.

I like that one scene where the party first
exited the slum. The characters interaction was really nice to see. Wanted more of that.

The ending is nicely done^^

Damn, Shimomura is awesome. Most underrated composer for sure, I love pretty much everything she's done. Trailer is great too, despite it being merely a tease. I love the look of both this and XIII, and I can't wait to see what else SE uses the PS3 White Engine for. Next gen RPG-age is sure as hell heating up on the PS3. Next up: Atlus showing SMT4!

the problem that i have with it is that it all comes across so incredibly contrived that it heavily detracts from the gaming experience for me. A lot of the more loathesome FF concepts/motifs are also innundated in cliches to the point of comedy. I'm a do something right or don't do it at all type of person so such mediocre attempts detract heavily from the overall he experience for me personally.

That said, I admit a lot of my dislike for this particular type of FF direction also has to do with growing up enjoying the different artistic cues and and story directions that it took.

they are moving onto their next 'big project' after P3 Fes, SMT4? :)

god I cant wait PS3 power + R&D1 art direction=omfg
