Final Fantasy VI up on Steam

Thanks for sharing.

I haven't played the mobile port, but I do like the sound of an auto battle feature. :)

It so damn good, especially in bigger dungeons.

It's also very speedy. Remember the lower the number the faster the battle speed!

It also turns off automatically for boss encounters, which is nice.

Yikes, this is some George Lucas-esque changes. I'll keep an eye out and see how modders restore this port to its former glory.

Aside from the sprites, is there anything else about this version that people don't like? I will buy this if it's the same otherwise.

Guys please don't.

Just don't do it to yourselves. If you can run Steam you can run an SNES emulator.

Ah, man. That does sound like a blast, haha.

I will be buying for sure. :) I'm a big fan of VI.

Just curious, but have you played the mobile port?

That's really the biggest issue.

Everything else is pretty much superior, including auto battle, which is in no other version of the game.

I'm in World of Ruin now. :)

Just finished one of the bigger sidequests.

Playing it during my commutes on my phone.

The character sprites are not even close to "what the originals would look like upscaled". The colors and perspective are totally fucked.

I'm torn on this, because it has good mechanical improvements and it's for PC. On the other hand, they destroyed the UI and overall look of the game.

My favourite game of all time, but damn, that art...

But this one is good too. Here some of the most notable enhancements:
-Cyan is usable now as he charges his Bushido actively, not manually
-It uses the GBA localization which is much richer than the original Woosley translation, which although still good, he was limited with cart sizes and was rushed.
-It has all the GBA enhancements--new dungeon, new Espers, and new equipment.
-Menu system is much better for battling.
-Much better character menus--you can see what Esper they have equipped and when party members level up without going into their individual status menus
-Music is SNES quality, unlike the GBA version
-Optional hints and journal so you can keep track of your progress.
-Auto battle! Helps in longer dungeons.
-Bug fixes--No more Vanish plus Doom. Plus the GBA bug fixes, such as Magic Evade actually working.
-Bestiary
-Music player!

Hm. Looks like I'm buying on day one anyway.

Garbage sprites.

The sprites stand out horribly against the background if its the original assets and the new assets look abysmal. They look way too smooth and don't mix well at all, instead looking like something out of rpg maker. The best example is from FF5:

This looks like a RPG Maker game, ffs.

The monster sprites look pretty good to me in battle. The character sprites just look plain horrible. I have no nostalgia because I've never played any FF before 7.. Then again, FF games have never really held my interest, I've only managed to finish 7 even though I really tried to enjoy 8, X, 12, 13.

That must be nice gaming on the go. I have an older phone so I can't really play games on it, haha.

But well, I'm always up for playing FF games on Steam. Especially for the achievements.

Thanks again for sharing information on the additional features. I didn't see it listed on the Steam page so I found it to be rather helpful. :)

I can deal with the sprites but that UI looks incredibly bad... will buy if this gets modded, wouldnt mind a Steam copy of 6 but... NotLikeThis

Looks like a 2008 RPG made in Flash by one guy... Can't believe this artstyle got greenlighted by Square wtf

not like this....

what have they done to the graphics? this phone port deserves nothing but fire
I don't understand why they felt the need to change it AT ALL from the snes version, which was flawless

Yup. The sprites and how some elements blend together is iffy, but gameplay and content-wise it is unquestionably the best version of the game.

Don't buy this before 24th. There's a Square Enix Xmas secret box right now that last year contained hefty discounts for FFXIII-2 that released less than a month the bundle was revealed, so it might have either Lightning Returns or FFVI coupon this year.

I dont understand why they went through the trouble to "update" the game if they were gonna do such a poor job.

The GBA port is what they should have used, update the music and you are good to go. The translations, added content and portraits were awesome in the GBA version.

That icon in the bottom-right corner of Artsi's image... Is that a character swap button? Can you swap mid-battle now?

EDIT: fixed Artsi's name, credit where it's due, ect.

WTF is wrong with the characters? Why do they look so weird?

Edit: Oh, this is almost a unanimous response, lol damn, what were they thinking?
