Final Fantasy VII is out at midnight on the Appstore

Don't you guys get tired of buying 15 different FFVII's, 10 different FFVI's, 8 different FFV's, 4 different FFX's, 5 different DQVII's, 3 different DQVIII's, etc.? No? Okay. Carry on SE.

-Turning off random encounters
-Max stat button

This does not bode well for what they're going to do to the remake, I feel.

Maybe next year Nintendo will go mobile and have:

-Autoplay toggle - Automatically speed run through levels!
-Invincibility Star Button - Press up to 10x per level!
Lol. Never thought I'd see the day where people start concern trolling over the inclusion of cheat codes.

Lol, this is what they showed at the PSX event for the PS4 port. I just knew it was coming to iOS at some point. They even said it was impossible not to long ago and here we are.

They said it was impossible due to limits by Apple on the save file if I remember correctly. And I think Apple loosens their restrictions as time (and technology) moves on. I kind of remember Apple saying they were being less restrictive on that particular front.

yuck. Have fun with refilling your chocobo sprint meter with that interface.

Whoa. Didn't know they were releasing the Final Fantast Portal app today too. Triple triad here I come!

After seeing the UI on this one I'm not sure I will bite. Was hoping for something that isn't just an emulator overlay.

I was tempted till I saw that. Its complete laziness, they could have translated the buttons to use touch, so you could click on boxes directly(you dont need access to the source code for that). It's just laziness and wanting to get it out as quickly as possible.

It is the mobile version. I really would be shocked if they tried to carry over things like this to the console version of the remake.

It's not just the mobile version, as they're building on stuff they offered in the PC version. FFVIII's recent Steam release had similar built-in cheat options.

But yeah, they're not going to put that shit in the remake. I'd wager it might show up in the PS4 version of FF7 HD or whatever they're calling this port of a port.

If you buy it, beat it quickly before iOS9 breaks it like every other Square Enix game.

This. I love FF7 with all my soul, but no way will I buy this after how terrible square has been about supporting their mobile games. I'll continue playing it on Vita and enjoy the PS4 release also.

Nope. When you love something its easy to justify buying it for different platforms/changes/ect. I dont know how many times I've bought Civilization, or Deus Ex, or the Star Wars trilogy. All the same concept.

Are we getting an OT for this port? I'm curious if this is worth replacing my PSX ported copy sitting on my PSP.

cant speak for the psp, but the Vita psx port to me is the best version of the game available to play. The screen mask a lot of the low resolution flaws of the game, and the filtering options do a great job with the battle scenes.

This is great news. I am always gone, so being able to play on a phone is really nice. Loved FF4 and 6 on mobile , excited to see 7 joining the lineup.

worried about this though:

Customize your characters in any way you like using the fantastic “material” system that allows endless combinations of spells and abilities

they adding new systems into the game? (taken from the app description)

Eh, I'm not too upset about loss of graphical fidelity moreso than portability.

I carry my phone everywhere compared to carrying a PSP everywhere but that UI is yuck.

What a terrible port. The "it's FFVII on my phone!" is not even that compelling considering emulators are already available for mobile devices for years. I'm playing FFVIII on my phone and I have more options to customize the UI than this port. The game doesn't even allow for touch commands in battles and menus when every single FF port to mobile have that option.

This is realy weird too. As much as people hated on FFVI mobile, that game had a lot of effort in it.

no, FF7 has always had the materia system, thats what its battle system is about.

4 gigs? what the fuck, the original is like 700mb.

Also this looks awful, instead of just giving you a touch dpad and an action button with menu button at the top or something and make all the intractable icons touchable they just put a shit controller on the screen.

Going to skip on this because 1) my ipad won't play it (it's a iPad 2) and 2) Already have it on PC and PS3. Next time i'll buy the game it'll be the remake.

Yikes, I know SE gets crap for the graphics in mobile FFV/VI, but at least they put some effort into those ports. Can you at least use a MFi controller and hide the ugly touch buttons?

For all the artists they employ, I don't understand why their iOS UI is always so terrible. Gradients, generic typefaces, transparencies, etc. There's no attempt to even come close to matching the UI of the game itself.

ENCOUNTERS ON/OFF BUTTON

best version confirmed

artists ≠ UI designers

That said and shitty UI in almost every mobile port aside, even looking at the the sprite and tilework their actual artists are producing for mobile ports of older games is absolute fucking garbage.

They don't put effort in because people have been buying their lazy ports anyway. Why put forth effort if they're getting money anyway?
