Final Fantasy VII Remake |OT| - The Reunion is coming

Just got the last challenge for the VR missions post game, the top secrets. It's all the vr bosses in a row :messenger_hushed:, should I get all the hardmode manuscripts before attempting this?

yeah, its the hardest fight in the game. might as well do everything else first and come back.

you also might want to look up a strategy, it requires some pretty specific actions to be taken at the right time. i had trouble with it but eventually was able to take them down. the rewards are worth it tho.

Check out gameplay of this hilarious mod for Final Fantasy 7 Remake: low poly characters in high-res environments.

Created by Nexusmods user FantasyRaiderr, Polygonal Players is an ff7 remake mod that replaces key character models with their original ff7 models. This model swap carries over to in-game cutscenes and battles, but pre-rendered cutscenes won't be altered. Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, and more will pop like never before. This ff7 remake pc mod is one of our favorites, but there are plenty more to check out. Here's hoping for another ff7 demake mod in the future.

After multiple false starts, and starting over when the PS5 version hit - I finally finished this 3 years later.

Honestly - I hate this fucking game.

Which sucks because it gets so many things right. The presentation is incredible. The soundtrack is all time. Absolutely love the hybrid battle system.

But christ I was so bored every other chapter. The pacing in this thing is such a drag and there's so much totally unnecessary padding. Every time it starts moving and getting exciting it will absolutely come full stop for some terrible mini game or another slew of terrible side quests to find kids playing hide and seek, herd kittens, go kill 5 rats, play records for some NPCs, find some ingredients. I understand you can opt out of this stuff but I never do because I don't know if I'm about to sacrifice some sort of OP reward for doing so.

Admittedly I'm a huge trophy whore too and this is one rare case (for me) where the trophies actively make the game worse. Giving up on the notion of getting platinum about half way in definitely helped.

I love these characters and this world, and the presentation is really lights out, but goddamn is this often times such a slog to get through.

Started playing this in December 2022 and since then I have played a chapter here and a chapter there and then put the game down for months on end. BUT I'm finally nearing the end it seems, as I'm at chapter 17.

So hopefully I'll be done with the game before the 2 year mark comes up.

Rebirth will take you a decade !!!

But I still recommend it.

Extremely late to the party, but I started playing this a week or so ago, its my first Final Fantasy game and I am really enjoying it. I went ahead and bought Rebirth off the strength of the first few chapters. I will play that next.

I just got to chapter 11 - I will say, Chapter 8 and 9 were so long. I am doing all the side missions though. PS5 says I am 50% done.

Awesome.

I'll be replaying both Remake and Rebirth in the run up to the final games release.

Does this game get better in the 2nd half?

I'm just wrapping up the whole Wall Market section of the game and... I did not have a good time with it. The game leading up to this area was pretty solid but if it maintains this type of meandering pacing to the end I think I'm done with it.

The meandering continues between Wall Market and the finale. One of the biggest issues I have with this game (and FF16) is how much useless padding there is. Because there are these arbitrary unsaid standards (must have lots of sidequests, main story has to be at least 30 hours) we end up getting a ton of games that are worse off.

Yeah, it's funny as I was loving FF16 (moreso than 7) but then I hit a wall about 2/3rds of the way through because of all the useless padding and never finished that one either.

It's particularly hard trying to push through FF7 when Expedition 33 has shown us how amazing a lean and focused experience can be instead of all this uninspired added padding.

100%. I think Exp33 took about 50 hours for me to complete and everything was expertly paced and dense. I had to struggle to finish 16. Towards the end I skipped pretty much all sidequests and ran my chocobo past enemies in the open zones. It's one of those games that feels like it was designed backwards.

I would say the lull for FF7R isn't quite as bad as it is in 16...but it still drags until picking up at the end. It definitely left a bad taste in my mouth, still haven't even thought about playing Rebirth yet.

I just finished the demo on Xbox and I really enjoyed this. Combat feels great too and performance mode is very nice with barely noticeable visual differences, at least in the demo area.

But holy shit, I had 20 potions before that boss fight and after that fight I had 7 left, lol. It's clear that I am not understanding how some of the systems work yet, the second battle mode that Cloud can use for example. Maybe I'll go watch a video on it so I'll be ready when I get the game sometime this year.
