Runs fine with max settings at 1080p, put zooms way the fuck in at 4k. It's a 4k television and the display settings on the PC are set to 4k. I've never encountered something like this before.
JaseC, maybe a tip for the OP.
If anyone is running the game at higher than their monitor/TV native resolution and only see part of the screen even with the fullscreen option, try turning of DPI scaling from Windows settings. On my end at least Windows 10 was automatically scaling the game to 200% when I launched the game at 4K.
Has anyone tried this with a Steam Controller. The "no gamepad button for the main menu" is extremely obnoxious, but could easily be solved with the Steam Controller.
I'm playing it with the Steam controller. Work wonders for using the no encounter mode, speed it up, etc, without neither pausing nor using the keyboard.

Windows 10 (should be the same for 8/8.1, not sure for 7):
Right click desktop > display settings.
Or just type dpi in cortana/search bar/start menu.
edit: scratch that, find the game .exe, right click it, properties, disable display scaling in high DPI settings.
Expected, but that 30fps lock means this will be at best a sale purchase.
When will they learn.
As has been said constantly, its a game from 15 years ago with all of the engine baggage of that time, there's nothing to be done about it. It is really such a big deal to be acting like its some major affront to one's refined sensibilities?

The game is made to be 30 FPS.
I wonder if any if you ever had to play a good old PAL game. THAT was a problem.
It doesn't matter what it's made for. It's a PC game in 2016, it shouldn't be locked to 30fps. The fact that it's 60fps on PCSX2 just proves that logic isn't tied to framerate.
That said I own it and have been playing all day, but I wish it wasn't 30fps.
PCSX2 is also 30fps. Yes it's showing 60, but it's actually 30fps. What do they call it, frame interpolation?
Pcsx2 is emulating ps2 vsync so it will output at 60, but one frame in two will be duplicates.
I know that because I tried to NSight the emulator at one time... lol

Its not 60fps on PCSX2.
Jesus, this attitude is really annoying, and i keep seeing it. Just play the games guys
Why are you guys even in a PC performance thread if you don't want to hear about performance and technical stuff?
Im getting some slight stutters that i cant seem to get rid of. I mean its mostly smooth but every now and then during gameplay you can tell the fps drops slightly.
Im running 6700k with 980ti so its clearly not the hardware. I tried both adaptive and maximum performance in NV CP and no difference between the two. Maybe people just arent as sensitive as i am to the stutters that claim they arent having issues. IQ is very clean though considering how old the game is.

60'fps' on PCSX2 is actually the (NTSC) TV refresh rate and has nothing to do with the ACTUAL frames rendered. Nearly every PS2 game's frame rate is locked to a factor of 60 to maintain proper vsync (so 60, 30, 20, 15, etc), For a (NTSC) game to be running 100% real time speed it ALWAYS has to run at 60fps in PCSX2 but that has nothing to do the actual amount of frames rendered.
Anyone tried it on Integrated graphics yet? Want to buy but core-m with hd5300..... Might be too weak?

Glad you posted. I'm considering playing this on my htpc in the living room. It has an AMD A10 7850K.I have i5-4670K with Intel® HD Graphics 4600, out of curiosity I tested it and it seems pretty decent and can run the game at these settings at a fairly solid 1080p/30.
Your 5300 is significantly weaker part for sure, but it's hard to say. I suppose it depends what kind of settings you want. Your laptop/notebook likely has a lower resolution so that would help of course.
Personally probably wouldn't risk it unless someone else has something closer to what you have.
I have an older laptop I'm going to test the game in, assuming I can resurrect the laptop first. I'll chime back in if there's anything to report on that end.
Its not 60fps on PCSX2.

I put 7 hours into it the day it came out, but sorry that complaining about a poor framerate hurts your feelings.
If you can't handle people complaining about 30fps locks on PC games, what the fuck are you doing in a PC performance thread on NeoGAF? I'm sure the Final Fantasy subreddit is talking about how amazing 30fps feels in this game.
Got it running very smoothly with all settings maxed, including 8x MSAA, at a locked 30fps at 5120x2880 downsampled to 1440p with Gsync on my 980ti.
It looks glorious.
I had to use the DPI scaling trick mentioned in the thread though, before I could get DSR to work.
In the realms of technical performance, what settings is anybody on an equivalent to me running at:
i5 3550k
Nvid 660 2GB
8GB Ram
SSD
It was running properly turd last night on High, which I did not expect. However, I always have to clean boot before playing FFXIII, so I may give it a try in that situation.
Fix for DSR ?
From the OP:
Fix overscan when using a higher-than-native resolution: Disable DPI scaling. Navigate to Steam\SteamApps\common\FINAL FANTASY FFX&FFX-2 HD Remaster, right-click on FFX.exe/FFX2.exe, select "Properties", switch to the "Compatibility" tab and tick "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings".
