Maybe Aussies have to wait an extra week so their government can approve a version of the trailer with a non-transparent overlay of the game rating over 40% of the screen!

Not sure if anyone was interested but Play-Asia just sent me an update that the Lightning Edition PS3 is back in stock for $599 as of today. Expensive, but oh so awesome looking!

I can't imagine navigating FF menus with the analog. It's just not the way it's done.

Yup I agree. Analog for movement and the pad for menus. Oh when you guys get it, it's the only way to go. Perfect really.

I won't be all too excited when I get the ENG version, but I'll enjoy the grinding... the grinding... the grinding... LOL

When will they announce the CE version of it!?

Wait, wut? The combat is gonna be d-pad only?
This makes perfect sense. The combat is all done through menus. Menus should be navigated with d-pads. That's it! It's obvious.

Seriously, have these people played a Final Fantasy game before? Hell, have they played an RPG before? Why is this D-pad only thing for the menu UI (which is where you do all your combat) so surprising?

I'm gonna be playing the 360 version though. Shitty d-pad and what not. :(

I'm giving them until February 13th and then preordering.

I had no problems using the d-pad for battles with Lost Odyssey. Thankfully, the only time you had four directions of input was when you were at the last step of selecting your action (picking a spell or battle art). Most of the time it was either up/down or left/right. The 360 d-pad isn't optimal, but in this case, it should be able to do the trick.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. I'll be playing on the 360, and I don't want to use its crappy D-pad when the analogue stick would do a perfectly fine job.

I don't get why they want to complicate matters by having to switch control for the menus.

It's pretty adequate outside of fighter games ... still not that good though :-/

Well well well, I thought Japan hated the game :lol

Anyway it seems like the vast majority love FF13, while a vocal minority are still bashing it.

Oh well 52 Days to go!

hahaha

Well even though the internet saw DQ9 hate, its the top selling DQ title & saw better legs than other DQ games, so obviously they didn't hate it. :lol

My review for those who aren't entering the Import thread. No spoilers.
An interesting read. I've been silent in FFXIII threads lately because I was avoiding all comments about the import, till I saw the GT.com preview the other day then heard the ATB podcast, those, and reading this is pretty disappointing. I'll still be picking it up, but FFXIII is looking seriously anticlimactic.

Unless the collector's edition is really nice or it comes with a Final Fantasy XIV beta code, my plan has always been to buy it used when it's $20.

Well, now, whenever I watch Everybody Hates Chris and see Chris's friend, I can only think of Hope in the game; he seemed to luck out landing the role of voicing that character, though when he gets to college I wonder how many people will realize it was him 0_o.

That guy was awesome in Everybody Hates Chris. :lol

Nice read there. I was hoping that the story in this game would be surprising and be epic. Sad to hear that it isn't. Also, there needs to be a Final Fantasy game where you have to use the summons. I don't like that they are pushed aside and that you could go through the game without using them. Why take the time to make summons that are intricate and stuff, if they are only really optional. Well, I guess the positive thing about reading your review, is that it's not terrible. :)

or, for those that were bitching about FFXII, a step forward

hm i am not sure but i think most people had issues with FFXII's combat system.
sure they changed that, but it seems like that it lost some depth overall.
this is just my initial impression so far and i won't judge the game until i've played it.

Heres hoping versus takes this combat system and improves it with something like team attacks ala Chrono Trigger.

I thought Versus was an ARPG, since the Kingdom Hearts team was working on it?

Really? Last I heard (which was a really long time ago, so could be outdated) was that it would be closer to "classic" FF in style than XIII itself. Like that old image with a large Noctis standing on an actual overworld map. Havent really followed the game closely.

Remember that's just one person's opinion. I haven't finished the game yet, on chapter 12, but this game is so epic that it makes me remember when I was a kid playing FF6 and just being in awe that stuff like this could happen in video games. I disagree with a lot of stuff in Kagari's review, like Snow being 'useless'. Hating him as a character is cool, but his stats and crystarium layout are among the best in the game. As for summons, I've used them multiple times when I've been in trouble and they've helped tremendously when used strategically on boss fights. As for the side content..it's an FF..it's always the same. Secret bosses and super weapons and so on. If you like the side quests in an FF this game does not disappoint. If you play FF for the mini games..well..ok.

In the end, this game blows X and 12 out of the water for me and I LOVED both of those games clocking over 80 hours in each. I have a feeling I'll get around 80 from 13. Seriously, every single one of my FF save files from FF5 and on are all over 70 hours.. how could any 'real' fan of the series try to judge or review an FF without even going over the 50 hour mark. It won't be everyone's favorite..but what FF is..there's no universally liked FF except MAYBE 4 or 6.

Never gonna happen in an offline one. People gripe enough about FF8 summon "overpoweredness", and they were only useful there if you owned a turbo controller and paid absolutely no attention to the tutorials.
In 11 they're pretty useful, but only used if you play a summoner. :lol 14 is allegedly going to have some major differences and more of a focus, but who knows.

World wise, yes. Not the battle system.

That's debatable. I've beaten other entries in the series several times. I don't think FFX ever took me over 50 hours to beat. I spent over 70 in XII though, but that was still within the story.
XIII is a polarizing game, there is no doubt there. It definitely didn't give me that 'epic' feeling games like VI, VII, VIII and X did though.

Oh, well that sounds like a pretty good combo. Guess I better start keeping an eye on that as well.

Is XIII's story understandable as you go? Or do you have to beat the game before you realized what happened? That was my only problem with VII...some of the events in the game seemed pointless.

Am I the only one that hopes that the Versus battle system is somehow similar to Dissidia because that shit was fun as hell.

At this point I just want them to show it to us.

I'm calling it now, the E3 trailer will play out like this. Normal Final Fantasy style cinematic throughout the entire thing with some epic sounding music in the background. Between different flashes of the cinematic moments there will be quick flashes of the in game battle system and then more flashes of world map traversal and a city or two and then it will close off with Noctis and Stella holding swords at each other.

I'm 70% sure it will be like that so BOOK IT.

I was in GAME today and they've updated their pre-order posters, Final Fantasy XIII is prominently displayed (the Xbox 360 edition, that is). Still no word on any pre-order bonuses, or limited editions...

Haha... that english trailer was great. Talk about GAF over-reacting :lol.
The voices are fine... standard gaming-fare.

*teardrop*

Does the game's mechanics or design drastically change past the 50 hour mark? Have they done so in any FF?

So based on early reviews this is looking like it could be one of the lowest scoring Final Fantasy games from what I have seen.

I keep hearing that the story is the weakest element which really sucks since that is my favorite thing about FF games and what I was really looking forward to with 13.
