Back when I was younger I would buy a lot of strategy guides, so I would just check off every side quest I completed. I think the rpg I spent the most time on was FFVIII, and even then, I moved and lost interest.
But is that really getting 100%? I've done all the VIII side quests, got everyone maxed, got all their final weapons, but I never got all the cards, or maxed out all the magics, or got all the GFs up to level 100. I'm not really sure what should be required for a 100% achievement if it were a modern game.

Not long if you move forward with the story. It's only long if you meander.

But it's still definitely the longest chapter in terms of area size though. It's about 2-3 times the size of any other chapter.

Probably not, but any further would just feel like work to me. I really don't know how most achievement systems work honestly, I haven't played an rpg that uses them.

Ok, that is true but still not saying much >=|

A bit late, but I just saw the new English trailer (don't click here) and 40 seconds in I already wanted to cancel my pre-order :/ what have they done to Final Fantasy? It's just, so wrong. Their voices are way too loud, they need some normalizing, Snow sounds like a radio announcer instead of a real character. The melodrama, never has it been this high to me.

FFXII got just as much hate when it was released...

I was going to buy this years before it was even announced...Even with all the opinions, I can't really form any opinion till I have played it. I've enjoyed all ff games to some extent.

As a side note, while the AI i FFXII was far from excellent, I find far more moronic in Dragon Age origins

...what? That's a pretty crappy response.
And it's not crappy to say if you haven't spent more than fifty hours playing a game you're not a "'real' fan"? He even said they shouldn't judge the game despite he himself had judged it playing less of the game. He's an idiot, so I was a twat to him.

It really irritates me when people try and discredit someones experience by claiming it's invalid if they haven't met certain criteria. "You haven't finished NGB with the original health bar? Then you can't even talk about the game", "Not beat MGS2 on Big Boss? Lol, no wonder you don't like it" etc. It's all crap, and a pitiful argument.

Well yesterday I preorderd FFXIII. Can not wait till the game is out. I realized I've been waiting since high school for this game. Its been a long time. I've watched every trailer millions of times.

I'm really nervous about this game though. FFX is my favorite FF. I liked the story, the characters, the music, the art, and pretty much everything else. So the linearity I doubt will bother me. I liked FFX because it was so streamlined and its structure and pacing made the game far more epic if you ask me. The game felt like an actual journey. In most RPGS I just follow the story, so i very very story focused rpg does not bother me. The thing is I also love FFX because of its battle system, which is also the reason I hate FFX-2. It's battle system was to fast. So the fact that this one is so fast and doesn't even have a wait time bothers me. When it was reveled who the director for XIII was a was kinda nervous.

Also to me FFXII was incredible. The world was just fully realized. I'm not sure if FFXIII will be able to live up to that aspect. I know it wont live up to the amazing voice acting, not only because of the actual acting but also because I doubt the script will be as good. Say what you will about XII's story, but the actual script was good with its layered dialogue and non cringe worthy talk. Two things FFXIII I doubt will have. I have grown up since FFX and the new English trailer did kind of make me laugh. Then again I still like anime and FFX's story, so maybe XIII wont fail me on that front.

Anyway its strange to think in a few weeks I'll actually be playing the game. The wait has been so long. And for someone who loves FF as much as I do, its been somewhat unbearable. I can't wait to play this damn game.

What was wrong with the AI in FFXII? Their 'intelligence' depended entirely on the gambits you built.

Also, if you are playing Dragon Age and allowing the AI to control your party then you are playing it wrong.

soooo...no CE for U.S.? Thats pretty crappy, what a missed opportunity. You have games like Bioshock 2, GTA IV, MW2 and GOW3 getting CE but not FFXIII? Not knocking those games but geez, its not like you don't have hardcore RPG and FF fans to sell a CE to.

I don't know, as I recall, the CE of FFXII didn't go over so well. Probably because it was a GS exclusive, but suits tend to only look at the bottom line.

Unless they reveal one last minute like :(.

I still don't know where everyone is getting Kagari didn't like the game that much. Kagari loved the battle system and FFXIII is basically nothing but battle system and storyline, and Kagari gave it a 8/10.

Being critical of elements of a title does not equal = "didn't like"

It's because the review is overwhelmingly critical. Even when talking about the battle system there's one short paragraph about how it's good followed by two long paragraphs detailing it's flaws. If this review is supposed to recommend the game it's not doing its job- I'm at a loss to find anything the game does particularly well from this review. I understand there was stuff that you liked Kagari but some more explanation about what makes it good would be appreciated.

Edit: Sorry if I'm being too critical myself here it's just that when I think FFXIII I think Kagari and if she saw so many flaws with the game it seriously dampens my expectations.

Since the discussion has turned away from the game itself and is kind of focusing on whether it sucks or not (always the case with the Final fantasy series, though I'll admit that the talk is premature considering the game isn't even out in English), I'm done with this thread.

I've loved every single entry in the series. In fact, if I had a top 20 for RPGs, I'm pretty sure every FF RPG would make the list. I'd like to hold onto that. :P

If they released new game+ for this game as DLC I'd probably pick it up. From the sound of it, it might be nice to replay the game with endgame equipment but starting CP back at zero (kinda like FFX-2), perhaps with the whole Crystarium available for leveling right from the start to give you greater flexibility.

Holy shit, that International trailer was like jawdropping.

Can't wait!!!

Yeah, indeed it was. It was quite beautiful and lavish. I'm looking foward to this one. I'm looking foward to seeing what Square will do in HD. I even think I like the fact that it's linear and dare I say simplistic. Demon Soul's is giving me all the challenge and depth I need right now. I could actually enjoy a game that's a lot like a movie. Haven't played one since MGS4.

My review for those who aren't entering the Import thread. No spoilers.

Finally got to reading all of it. It's very insightful. I dont think I will have the same problem with Snow(I'm sure he's not the worst hardcore "hero" character I've seen lol) but the lack of sidequests, towns, and extras will virtually eliminate this from being a top FF game for me. Removing the aspect of towns just takes away alot of the "rpg" feeling. You can't go back and visit with people or learn new things, or advance the culture and explore, etc. :( There's no way FF13 can compete with previous FFs.

I wonder if they created the game for basically one intensive run through? The story, sidequests, and extras are what motivate you to replay a game over and over again.

I would love to see DLC/tweaks released for the game. It's better than waiting for an International edition which we might not even get.

One weird thing about FFXIII is that all enemies have levels, but there doesn't seem to be any variability between enemies of the same kind (or at least I didn't notice it). It would be nice if they could boost these levels a bit and give you more crystarium levels or whatever if they were ever to release a New Game+ DLC. Adding more areas/hunts wouldn't hurt either. I'd gladly pay for them.

Wait... Does level caps mean the monsters level up with you just like in FFVIII?

For the most part, enemies don't appear again after a chapter is completed. There may be a stronger version later in the game, but it's still technically a different enemy.

The applied levels don't even correspond to the "stronger" monsters most of the time. I'm still not sure what they intended with this feature. Maybe it was just one of those "oh, let's stick some cool numbers and levels to the explanatory screens so that they look more advanced than they really are"...

Eh, I don't see any problem with the level cap. Even after doing most of the first 30 missions in chapter 11, I have yet to fill up everything before the system levels up in each chapter.

Huh? Oh, sorry, my English must not be getting through to you here. What I meant was, the enemies have levels, right(an actual number, top left corner when you use libra)? But what does that level actually tell you about the enemy itself? You'd think that the stronger type of the same enemy would have a higher level than the weaker one of the same type, but that isn't necessarily true. Moreover, this number doesn't seem to change over time or anything, so what is the actual purpose of this number?

That's actually a very good point. I noticed it too and it bugged me for a few moments before I gave up thinking about it. :lol

I can't stop thinking about it. :D It perplexes as much as it fascinates me. Makes me wonder if they actually have something in store for them or if it's just something I've missed entirely and it has a perfectly good explanation. :lol I'd love to get som clarification from someone.
