Ugh, the hate over the Leona Lewis song is giving me a headache.
I do not see what the problem is. Leona Lewis isn't exactly a favorite of mine, in fact "My Hands" is the first song of hers I've really paid attention to. Heard some of her stuff before, remembered that she had a good voice, not really my thing though. My first impression of the song is that it's not really something I enjoy, but it's at least tolerable -- the vocals are good, the lyrics are fine, nothing seems awkward.
THAT SAID, I see this as a smart move. FF songs that go from Japanese to English don't usually end up sounding very good to someone in NA/EU. Angela Aki is the only singer who really isn't known in the west that I was ok with being in the English game, because she can actually sing in English very well. Faye Wong is an amazing singer, arguably the best pop star out of Asia in the past two decades. But I really never understood why they tried to make Eyes on Me work in English. They would have been better off leaving it in Japanese, like they did for FFX, or leaving it out for the NA/EU release. Melodies of Life was also very meh in English.
Basically, my attitude has always been that if you are going to have a singer who is better off doing a song in Japanese, leave it that way or don't include it in the NA/EU release. Otherwise, find a singer who has more appeal in the west and use that person instead. I am pleased that S-E made that decision. My Hands isn't the best song of all time or whatever, but it sounds ok, and will have much more appeal to a western audience. I certainly find it more tolerable than any other FF song with vocals (along with Angela Aki).
Also, I find it hilarious that there was a LOT of hate for the Japanese FF13 song until Leona Lewis came along. Everything from "no one knows who she is", to the song structure being boring and uninspired, to super generic vocals.

FFXIII, GT, and God of War 3 all around the same time. Heavy Rain and Bioshock 2 slightly before that. Holy Jesus. They should have pushed at least one of those games to this holiday.

1) It was basically necessary for them to use an English song. (But what about European countries that don't speak English, you ask? Well I say a pox on them)
2) Translating Japanese songs and signing them in English is really hard to do, and much harder to do right.
3) The game is going to be dubbed into English anyway, so why wouldn't you also have an English theme song?
4) One problem I have with it is that the Japanese theme song was composed for FFXIII. The NA/EU theme song is just some random song they picked that they thought worked for the game.

You know what would be awesome, if they left the release date vague like that on purpose, so it's March 9th for USA and September 3rd for Europe.
