Too bad they're aiming for the wrong audience.

No, they're aiming for a new audience. They already have us. This song is for the people who pushed GTA and CoD into the stratosphere of game sales, only it's a slightly different audience than them because Final Fantasy can have a broader appeal to younger ages and females than those games.

aiming for that audience when your characters look like this

(except for the obvious exception in there)

is futile

Well they just lost me (still will import, but no longer buying NA version). I was disappointed they won't have Japanese audio track, but I accepted that, and understand that American's can't read subtitles. But to change the song is ludicrous. Is the US the only country that does not listen to songs that are not in English? Are American's so ego centric, that the rest of the world must bend to our will, rather than us experience something that is slightly foreign?

Maybe I have spent too much time out of the US, and have forgotten the proper way of thinking.

Sorry to say, but SE doesn't care about the japanophile minority : )

The song My Hands plays right into the R&B/hiphop-ification of everything in America. It is a boring song, but it does sound kind of like a theme song I must admit.

Good god are you guys still bitching about the theme song thing? And did I read it right that some actually won't buy the game because of 1 song. Holy shit.

And it isn't really much of a change anyway, we all all know for the hardcore otaku "My Dear Friends" are actually the same as "My Hands". The meaning is still there!
I'm only half serious, nobody will get this joke anyways :P

but on the real the chocobos do look kinda weird in this version they kinda remind me of the Nu Mou's. I was always fond of the cute 7 and 9 versions of chocobos. But I am going to be looking at their tail end anyways so it don't matter.

Aren't there Cocoon Chocobos(like Sazh's) and Pulse Chocobos(like the ones in these images)?

The... something, not sure what it is really:

Both songs are pretty 'chessy' i guess the original is slightly more listenable with the 'nice' instrumentation. But it doesn't sound like the new song will be determent to the game's quality, not like there changing the composer for the NA version.:lol

I don't like "My Hands", but I have never really liked the sappy love songs in FF. If I had to choose between these two, I think "My Hands" is decidedly less annoying.

They are for the song though. The Japanese theme song was composed by the game's composer. The NA theme song is a licensed track. I think that's generally where the contention is.

Edit: Does anyone know if Toshiro Tsuchida is still the battle director for FFXIII? If he is, it's a bit weird that in the video they would list Yuji Abe as the battle director and interview him instead of Tsuchida. Yuji Abe is also the one interviewed recently in magazines when discussing the newly revealed battle system elements. We haven't heard from Tsuchida for ages now, and I'm starting to wonder if he was removed from the project entirely when things started changing during development.

sorry if this was already posted y'all ..

A Few Discs: I met with Square-Enix people today to check out their holiday and early 2010 line-up. It was interesting to be with their U.S. PR reps just minutes after the release-date announcement trailer went live. One rep was happily refreshing GameTrailers, marveling at the rise in traffic on the clip. Given the excitement about the date, which promises both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 releases of the game on March 9, 2010 in North America and Europe, I asked a question I see our readers asking frequently: How many discs will the 360 version require? The Square reps recalled that this was mentioned in a developer interview earlier this year and said that the goal is 3-4 discs. While we will know a lot more about Final Fantasy XIII once it is released in Japan in December, it seems that details about the 360 version — which isn't coming out in Japan — may take longer to become clear.

Too bad the US got shafted. This is what it looks like in Japan, Asia and Europe:

The fuck?

How could you gooch? D:

Atlus had more respect for a bonus music disc with P4 than these guys did with the entire US game.

Italy is part of Europe and here the box looks nothing like that. I had the Asia version though, and it had the big box, yeah.

I don't care if there's 75 disks on the 360 ;) ,as long as you don't have to swap them for certain things like in Star Ocean4...

I am really beginning to dislike Leona's voice now, I am so tempted to suffer figuring out a japanese menu than having to hear that in a FF game.

Hopefully they phase it to story events, rather than world exploration... changing disks between locations would be poor design...unless it is necessary that is

I really hate some gamers.

Oh noes there is a bad unfitting song that plays for four minutes(and most likely during the end credits), boo fucking whoo. Minus one purchase, this is just proof that square doesn't know how to make final fantasy anymore derp derp. Shot themselves in the foot, japan expert, honor, etc.

and for fuck's sake please allow us to save when a disc ends ..

it's a personal thing, but i hated that in SO.

It's nice to know you care what I think unfortunately I can't return the favour.

Good luck playing through a game you don't understand. ;P

My problem isn't with you specifically, just that there are a significant number of people as.... opinionated as you.

I wasn't even being all that serious, it just occured to me that a lot of her songs are a bit screech-y. In my honest opinion her song is sweet but it doesn't fit as nicely as the other does. Having said that i'm not that hardcore to give a lesson on japanese culture to square and boycott it.

My UK copy doesn't look like that at all. It has the last disc in paper like chandoog posted. Which is why I had to boil the disc before my xbox360 could read it (residues).

Disk swaps do not bother me in the slightest. Final Fantasy PS1 games never required you to put an older disk in (ala Star Ocean 4).

Xbox 360's ability to install the entire disk to the HDD has made me always prefer their versions now.

Does anyone think though, that when FFvXIII comes out, there might be some sort of bonus you get, if you have a FFXIII completed save data on your PS3?

Then maybe it's just the Japanese and Asian copies. I have the Japanese one myself personally. Anyway the point is, with Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, I had nice thick cases, but Americans get the short end of the stick. Tough.

March 9 huh.... just in time for my birthday (march 14). Q1 keeps getting more crowded. Really looking forward to this one, song is awfull tho. :/

That Asian version also has a sort of glittery boxart :D I wonder how many discs it would've been though if they hadn't crammed 4 different audio tracks for the VO's onto those discs :lol

Anyone else... kinda thinking about buying it on the 360, or double dipping... to experience disc swapping? I'm not kidding one bit, I love the splash screens, the music, and how disc swaps usually are spread around epic story moments, so it's almost like a cliffhanger.

Are you serious? :lol :lol

I'll be getting the PS3 version. I have both consoles, but see no need to spend $120 on the same game. I don't care if the 360 has a special weapon/item or some avatar/theme or whatever.
