Final Fantasy XIV: ARR is $10 on PSN (PS+ Required)

What's the download size look like for this game? I assume the PS4 version will be even bigger?

And it's confirmed that buying doesn't start the initial free 30 days until you link an account right?
if i remember correctly, its like 6 gigs for the inital dl from psn then another 4-6 gigs for the update

hey, is anyone else having the problem of registering (via the PSN after DLing & installing) and not receiving a confirmation code by email?

I input my username & password, birth date, security question, get to a screen that says it's going to email me the confirmation code (I confirmed I put my email in correctly), tells me the code is only good for an hour (wut), and I never receive it. I check my inbox & spam/junk folder and no luck.

I tried Google but only ended up with people having issues when the game launched back in August and the issue appeared to be massive web traffic.:/
I guess that could be the case again, but could it really be as bad as it was upon re-launch?

I actually ended up buying both. Those prices were way too good to pass up, and I've only ever heard wonderful things about Ni No Kuni (well. except for it apparently being extremely slow).

I don't really intend on touching FFXIV until I get a PS4, but the free upgrade system is great for that reason.

Yeah, I ended up pullling the trigger on, Ni No Kuni, FFXIV, Catherine and Dungeon Defenders.

*Sigh*

PS4 version isn't coming until April? Fuck, I was going to buy this tonight but I think I'll hold off now.

why not buy it for $10 now, try it for a month (free), then upgrade to the PS4 version for free in April if you like it?

Beats waiting and paying $59.99 for the PS4 version, no?

I don't have my PS3 anymore, otherwise I probably would. I dunno, maybe I'll just buy and sit on it, $10 bucks is a pretty good deal.

The $10 that came with my PS4 is burning a hole in my digital wallet, I might just put it towards Persona 4 for Vita. I'm feeling the need for some RPG goodness.

I love this game so much. So much fan service and throwbacks to the IP's legacy. It's already a solid game and there's a lot for you to sink your teeth into. The thought of spending the next decade carving myself a little niche in this beautifully realised FF world gives me warm fuzzies. I can't wait for player housing and all that they will bring to the game...and chocobo raising...and racing..and the golden saucer...and all the other things they've said will come.

Ok I just downloaded this on PS3. Do I have to go activate anything in order to get my free PS4 version? I would like to save my free month for the PS4 version if I can.

Hmm, think I'm going to hold off until they add some form of PvP. I know they did talk about adding a "world versus world" type pvp at the 6 month mark. I'll wait until then. For now Guild Wars 2 will hold my interest.

Luckily, I picked that one yesterday. Still trying to get my bearings. I'm only lvl. 4.

The first PvP Content is called "Wolves' Den" and is a 4v4 arena based mode. It's coming in the 2.1 update on the 17th. Pretty sure they have plans to expand it to 8v8 and add more related PvP content.

Open PvP Areas has been discussed but I dont think there's a timeline in place. Maybe by the time Version 2.2 is around the corner we will be hearing more. I don't know if there are any plans for an equivalent of GW2's world vs world PvP.

So it appears that I can purchase both the Regular and CE PS3 version, and this has gotten me thinking.

Assuming I want everything linked to only one account, does this mean I can purchase both versions now with the idea of updating one of those to the PS4 version and then still retain one to use on the PS3?

I know this is a silly question but I just bought the CE version, so grabbing the Regular version would give me an additional 30 days for $10 and could allow me to still play on the PS3 after the PS4 comes out.

Sorry I haven't had a chance to read through this thread yet... but could someone please answer these questions for me?

1) Is there an extra monthly fee to play this, and if so how much is it per month?
2) Can I transfer this game/license from the PS3 version to the PS4 version when I buy a PS4, say, a year from now?
2a) If I can do this, do I have to be an active subscriber at the time I do the transfer? In other words, if I play on PS3 for a month, then stop subscribing for 10 months, am I still eligible for a transfer if I resubscribe later?
2b) If I can do this, can I just buy this now for for $10, never play it, and then when I get a PS4 a year from now transfer and start my 30-day free trial then? In other words, when does the clock start ticking on the free trial?
2c) If I can do this, do I get to keep my characters/stats/equipment, etc.?

Thanks... hopefully this wasn't too confusing.

1) Yes, 12.99$/month.
2) Yes.
2a) I don't see why not.
2b) Probably. It surely was that way for PC codes, we'd need a report from someone if the free month starts ticking from buy, install, or whatever event.
2c) Yes. The servers are the same, you just need to 'unlock' platforms you can use your account on.

Owner of PS3 CE here. If I buy this again can I upgrade it to PS4 version and still be able to play on PS3 via my current CE?

Another question: Owning the CE, if I buy the standard version and switch that to PS4 later (and also if I buy the standard version on PC), do my CE benefits still kick in on my account if I play on those platforms?

Somehow I also picked Ultros because I like the word... Perfect!

Yup! I was wondering the same thing and people say if you own the CE items, they apply to your account and work on the PC version too. So I don't see why they wouldn't on PS4 and vice-versa.

So I went to buy this, did the actual purchase but didn't download it because I had to clear some space, and when I went back in to grab it off my purchase history, it's not there. Anyone else experience this?

OK, cool. So then I could conceivably buy this, wait until it comes out for PS4, initiate everything at that point, and then I'll have FFXIV for PS4 + 30 days all for only $10?

This should be in the OP! Fantastic deal!

If I cannot wait till April and and start play now on PS3 what would be the fee to upgrade from PS3 to PS4? $10? Like the other games that had the PS3 to PS4 upgrade feature?

Square is giving free upgrades from the PS3 to PS4 version. The only caveat is that after you upgrade you'll no longer be able to play the PS3 version.

I have the PS3 CE and have just bought an additional standard code so that I can upgrade that to PS4 and still be able to play on my PS3. Basically if you buy two codes you'll be able to upgrade one to the PS4 version and be able to play the game on both systems, or you can buy one and upgrade to PS4 later to just play on the PS4.

Sweet! Thanks for the quick reply. This info should also be in the OP. :)

Bought the CE yesterday, but as others have said i don't plan to touch the PS3 version, i'll wait instead for the PS4 version release.

I have some questions:

1) How "gimped" are PS3 players compared to PC players? Is there a FF14 equivalent version of Windower from FFXI. Because it was a night and day difference between PS2 and PC users on FFXI and I would actively try to avoid playing with PS2 players.

2) I watched a video difference and PS3 version suffers from low textures (expected) but some nasty pop-up / character loading. Does this affect gameplay in any way? (and I assume this will be fixed with PS4)

I don't have a PC anymore (switched to Mac), so if I'm going to invest my time into FF14, I want to make sure I'm not behind PC users.

I'd imagine draw distance, FPS, and pop-in are the biggest factors, which will hopefully be fixed in the PS4 version. Playing the PS3 version atm, and no feeling of being gimped on my end. Control-wise, the only annoyance is targeting with a controller, which SE have covered by allowing on-the-fly target group switching, so you can switch between allies/enemies/npcs with a button combo to avoid having to cycle through every object on the field with the dpad.

Thanks. Need feedback from a heavy PC user that's aware of FF11 PS2 <> PC limitations and Windower to ensure I'm not held back.

You aren't being held back but it is harder to be good with a ps3 vs a pc that's true. It can still be done though.
