Final Fantasy XIV Information Thread | PC Open Beta... yeah it's not really open.

Well, I think those other interviews which contradict the Develop interview are poorly translated so I'm going to ignore them.

See how stupid an argument that is?

And it's obvious why some gameplay mechanics from WoW should be in FFXIV - because they're good and serve to enhance gameplay. There's a reason why WoW is easily the most successful mmo in the history of mankind. If it was a bad game, it would have failed a long time ago.

And no-one is asking for FFXIV to be a WoW clone. They want it to be a 2010 MMO instead of an archaic throwback from the early 2000s. They want the innovations that have been added to the genre (not only by Blizzard but other devs too) to be incorporated into FFXIV.

People expect better nowadays because they've played better. We know better than to pay to beta test an MMO.

Hold on, you don't want FFXIV to be a early 2000 MMO but you want it to take things from a MMO that was releasted in the early 2000's?

Also I have never seen a game like FFXIV in the early 2000's or earlier.

If they would just swallow their pride and delay the game until it's ready for mass consumption instead of trying to justify shit like fatigue, everyone (consumers and S-E alike) would benefit from it. But they're dead set on launching this half cooked. And yes, it's not out yet, but the writing is on the wall and has been for months as far as I'm concerned.

To be fair, every expansion for WoW has heavily changed gameplay and other things in the game. Many WoW mechanics from 2005 have been removed or so revamped that they aren't even recognizable. Almost every class has changed their play style in a major way. Cataclysm is taking that to a whole new level with fully redone talent trees (class customization), a new glyph (spell modification) system, and a totally redone world to level in. Some classes (Paladin, Warlock, Death Knight) are getting almost total overhauls to the way they play, but all classes are getting a bunch of changes/additions. So it's more like an MMO released in 2008 (now) or 2010 (Cataclysm).

Too bad they won't go with a March 2011 date.

I hate to be "that guy" but did you ever see FFXI?

ok, why do you want them to take things from WoW and put it into FFXIV? Can't people just play WoW instead?

I see it as a poor translation of a interview. One time it is shown that they think WoW is competition but more than once in more than one interview they say they are not trying to be like WoW and want to get FF fans that did not pick up FF11.

It's not so much a matter of wanting WoW features in the game, so much as it is looking to a modern game as an example.

Here's an example that you'll ignore or take completely out of context because we've been trying to drill this point into your skull for about a month and a half now:

If Final Fantasy XIV, if i want to switch jobs, I have to:
  • Go into the main menu
  • Go into my inventory
  • Equip a new weapon
  • Exit inventory
  • Go into my actions menu
  • For each action, click an empty box on the left hand panel, then go into a drop down at the top of the right panel, select the action. During this time there is no feedback to the user of anything. The box you selected doesn't highlight, it doesn't automatically move your cursor to the next spot, nothing. You have to know exactly where to click and when.

Of course, you can set up a series (not just one, has to be at least two, usually going to be 3 or 4) of macros using text commands to automate this process.

In World of Warcraft. I want to change talent specs from say, a Resto Shaman (healer spellcaster) to an Enhancement Shaman (melee damage dealer). This is more or less the same idea as changing Jobs in FF14. To do this, I have to:

  • Open my Talents menu
  • Switch to my saved Enhancement Shaman spec.
  • Press "Switch Talents". My action bars are exactly as I left them last time I was playing my Enhancement spec, despite the fact that the abilities I'm using are completely different than when I was Resto.

The question isn't "Why does it have to be the WoW way", because the answer to that is obvious.

The question is "Why does it still have to be the FF14 way"?

I never said I wanted the game to be just like FFXI. It was SE first MMO, so its a given they will take elements from 11 and put it into 14.

It could be that those points aren't my concern. I'm more concerned with fatigue. I don't need anything drilling to me. I'm fine worrying about what matters to me. Not what others believe to be the biggest issue.

Applying extreme caps to other things you pay for.

10 gallon water cap per week.

16 hours of Directv being active per week.

5 gigs of internet bandwidth per week.

8 hours of xboxlive per week.

The more I think about it the better it sounds.

No... you said that- well I was point out that; I'm not sure if~

Nevermind.

Can you quit dodging the point and just say why they should completely ignore innovations that have occurred within the past 5 years and still go with a combination of:

  • Completely dated concepts from early 2000s
  • Insane "innovations" of their own that are actually steps down from elements in already established games in the genre like the retainer system?

Wait, someone said that AoC had a bad launch? Helllllls no! That first level to 20 was a fantastic direction of an MMO. Then at that point, I do agree. It turned to shit because once you hit around lvl 45, you had nothing to do.

I want 14 to succeed but damn... I'm still getting it and I'll see what happens during the free month. Just so disheartening to hear this. ;_;

Blizzard has at least been revising their mechanics over and over throughout the years, changing things when they realize they're not fun or don't work as well as they could anymore.

The WoW of today is now the WoW that was released in 2004.

lol @ Khrno and Londa getting owned in this thread and trying to sidestep.

Fatigue has NOTHING to do with helping casual players. That's like saying casuals in FFXI has relic weapons, mythic weapons and Empyrrean weapons. This is all about money. They want to slow down your progress. They don't want you to blow thru their content. I'm betting the people that are defending SE doesn't even have a max character on FFXI.

Gotta love idiots that think they're celebrities by posting on twitter instead of their own forums, aka Ayase(Aion) and Tanaka. I had the CE preordered, will cancel now. Ya'll two have fun playing a game thats about to flop harder than Aion.

I...what?

I don't see why they would do this. I'm completely confounded. The real-name-forum-garbage that Blizzard was trying to pull at least had a reason. The only reason to have this system is to slow leveling so you play the game longer. I have no other word for this except "retarded".

My preorder has been canceled, and my middle finger is firmly raised. Utterly inexcusable.

Can you quit trying to make people like something they don't? I don't care if you love WoW to bits. Why do you care if I like FFXIV excluding the fatigue system and slow menus?

I don't want FFXIV to be anything like WoW. That are my wants. Just like your wants are the opposite. People are differen't. Accept that and move on.

It's like you don't even read the comments before you respond. He never said what you should like. He just wants to know why you like it, not make you like the games he likes. Also, many more games than WoW have made big strides in MMO game play. WAR, LotRO, EQ2, Aion, and AoC have all made really cool additions and changes to how MMOs play.

Why do I need to explain why I like anything? Don't worry about me is what I'm trying to say.

I really think Londa is just a troll character. No one is telling you to think a certain way, they're asking you WHY. They/He/She/We are just looking for an explanation. Why do you like this development? What do you like about it?

Not everything is an attack.

If someone saids to me that they are trying to drill a point into my head. To me that is trying to make me accept of agree with them when I already don't. How am I trolling? Because I'm actually excited about the game?

Then maybe you should take your own advice and not tell people XIV isn't the game for them when they want the most basic of MMO features, some of which are from WoW.

Where have I ever defended this surplus system? Please quote me because I don't remember.

I'm just sick of people talking the same shit over and over again and their extreme negativity.

My sympathies. You are, of course, correct.

Maybe those of us who are turned off to the point of disinterest by this system should leave room for the people who admire the other aspects of the game to talk positively for a while. We have beaten this topic to death.

I thought it capped off at -50% xp? It seriously goes down to -100% (or 0)? I can't believe that's true. That's just too fucking stupid, that's seriously the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard. There is no way a company in 2010 would implement something that retarded, that has to be false.

So, hypothetical question...

What if they offered this scheme they're talking about, but it was $8 a month instead of $13? And then for $13 you could get the unlimited time everyone is used to?

I had planned to play just about all jobs, so this doesn't seem onerous to me... apparently I am their target audience, even!

But even people like me will be affected by this new system, largely because it's based on time. Whenever I'm playing, I will have this nagging in the back of my mind about this. Running quests, exploring, etc... I guess I'll have to have a class to switch to for those?

I see a lot of weird effects on the community stemming from this, too... people log in, get invited to do a quest or whatever, and decline because their 8 hours are starting, so they want to go grind.

I really hope they don't ruin all that potentially good game with this thing..

Btw, bet in a cancellation or in a GIGA-nerf in the release. After the millions of negative feedback approaching in the next few weeks.

Where did i say it was you and Londa that was defending the fatigue/surplus? I said you got owned because you kept saying its not official when it was from the same director but places used different names for him. You were also laughing at Sankakucomplex remember? Don't see you laughing now that the word is out about how shitty this fatigue system is.

You keep complaining about people wanting the game to change. Guess you should worry about yourself and not what others think, eh?

Man this is like FFXIII where the more I hear about this game the more compelled I feel to cancel my pre-order. Square seems to be on a roll with doing this to me with their games lately. I hope something comes out that prevents me from doing this as I'm getting ready buy a new PC for it.

How is this not plastered all over N4G and shit with those headlines like:

"Square Enix redefines unlimited to 8 hours"

This stuff still NDA'ed? The ensuing drama when it blows is going to be delicious, more enjoyable than the actual game in its present state.
