Final Fantasy XIV Information Thread | PC Open Beta... yeah it's not really open.

I really appreciate you spelling it out for me. I'm starting to get really disappointed with my starting gear now. Is there an auction house or merchant i can buy upgrades from? I can't imagine every character would be expected to craft everything. (i haven't looked into crafting yet, don't want to add yet another confusing aspect)
I have not looked into crafting either simply because... I don't want to! In Gridania at least there are some shops but it's so random. I think it's easier in Ul'dah. I was able to upgrade my bow to something better and I did get some better equipment from loot.

There is no auction house at the moment, but I think the point is that once the player-run economy gets going, the people who actually like to craft and specialize in it will be selling the gear.

I picked to play in gridania mainly because i just wanted a more nature oriented environment to play in. I haven't went to the other cities at all. If someone could give me a general location of vendors that could sell some marauder stuff, that'd be pretty cool.

I really would like to continue giving this game a chance, but I can't even log in now.

Every time I select my character (I deleted my old one and two new characters) I get the following message.

"An Error has occurred on the game server. (30002)1284066960,0,5"

Been going on for two days now at any time I try and I try and start up. Can't find any valuable information on it.

With crap like that I always try a clean install.

How do I get to Limsa if I am in Gridania?

Head south to Thanalan, then head east in Thanalan to get to the docks. Take boat to limsa. Don't forget to get the camps along the way.

Are you on a wireless and/or slow connection? I believe that error code has to do with being disconnected with the server. My ISP sucks and on occasion the signal will drop for 2-3 seconds which is no problem when surfing the net and such but when playing MMO's, it can cause me to disconnect. I doesn't happen too often for me but It has occurred more frequently since the latest patch.

Anyway, try resetting your router.

The stats do the following:
DEX - Weapon accuracy
INT - Spell power
MND - Magic defense, MP
PIETY - Magic accuracy
STR - Physical attack power
VIT - HP

There's more here, for example.

What I'd like to know is what stats (if any) govern craftsmanship and magical craftsmanship. Since I primarily do gathering and crafting, those are the stats I'm most interested in. Atm I'm focusing on dexterity and piety just cause they seem like the obvious choices (plus I just hate missing in MMOs).

I did. Game is running on a clean install of Windows 7.

.

Wired 20mb connection. Never had such an issue.

I am really just guessing here, but I don't think any stats govern crafting. The only craft I've tried is fishing. There's definitely a technique to it. But even if I fail, I get skill points in fishing. Similarly, the more you practice any other craft, the higher your level will be even if you fail a few rounds.

I can only assume that with a high skill level your accuracy will increase, as well as the availability of new techniques.

I guess it was on my end. I reset my router and it's all good now.

460GTX is helping about as much as I though. 10-15 frame difference (giving me pretty huge boost in other games though!). Hopefully between Nvidia putting out some optimized drivers and SE hopefully putting some time in tuning the engine there will a big performance increase at launch.

I'm getting an error when I try to start it up today:

"13001 lobby server connection error,
error code 1015"

How do I solve this?

Are you getting this right now? I think maintenance started 30 mins ago.

For those using Dual Shock 3s as their controller, is it as simple as plug and play? I want to pick one up. Also any vibration? I know I could google it but I'm at work, might stop by the store afterwards. Thanks homies.

Is no one leveling Lancer? That HP drain ability akin to "drain samba" would really come in handy in some of the PTs I've been in.

Also, the level 16 WS leg sweep looks like it could interrupt and stop an enemy's weaponskill, right? If so, that would really come in handy against enemies with a really painful WS, like puks, goats, monkeys, or against AoE WS mobs like imps, ladybugs, and moles.

It seems to me that a really kickass trio would be Marauder, Lancer, and Thaumaturge w/ cure.

How long is the maintenance? Also am I the only one who finds mining and botany fun? Now all I need to do is figure out how to craft. I also did some exploring west of Gridania and this was the result

So... yesterday I downloaded the beta and registered, and played a bit. The game lagged A LOT and the FPS wasn't really all that good either, even though my computer specs aren't that bad.

Now I'm trying to play but there seems to be an update that I can't even download (I just got a timed out error). What the hell is wrong with this shit? God damn it SE, it's like you can't take a break fucking up your games :(

EDIT - Nevermind, I just read that the servers are down? Great :(

No, but it's not terribly difficult.

Go here first. This provides some pretty good instructions for the drivers that's you'll get from here.

After you get everything installed, then it is a matter of plug and play. Vibration works, but FFXIV doesn't seem to provide any force feedback.

I was leveling Lancer, but im currently leaning more towards Gladiator/Marauder + Miner/Botanist. I like tanking...and I like swords :lol Marauder knocked Lancer out of the running for me, since it ended up making great axes fun/cool to use for me. Theres a real feeling of impact when you bash an enemy's face in with multiple axe attacks.

EDIT: FFXIV provides force feedback just fine with a 360 pad.

You need to download a little program to make it work properly (DS3 tool), just google it when you get home.

It works great after that though, rumble and everything.

What seems to be the most popular class and which one is needed the most? Seems you can swap at will though, so doesn't seem to be such as an issue as in WoW.

QUick question: Does archers have to put points in strenght too? I'm putting all on dex and some in vit, so far.

So, anyone have any success crafting a Bronze Labrys?

http://ffxiv.yg.com/item/bronze-labrys?id=4040101

I really need a new axe. This level 1 shit ain't cutting it. I will pay 100,000 gil for one.

The reason no one makes that axe is because Buffalo Leather Straps require a fairly high rank in Tanner to create (around 20), and there's no vendors to buy them from or quest that rewards them, so you have to make them yourself or find someone who can.

Yeah, I was doing some checking and it seems the spiked bronze labrys might acutally be easier to obtain since it's part of a level 15 blacksmith leve.

I've been hunting the mats down, my goal is to make one before the end of OB :lol

The tricky ingredient is the Red Ocre Scale Bugs. You get them from either cactaurs or mining (quarry)... one dropped during a leve but it got lost because the person it defaulted to had a full inventory (party loot distribution system anyone????). Now I'm working on mining to see if I can't track one down ;o Bugs and Linseed Oil for dye, dye and hide and wood chips for leather, leather then made into strap.

Axe Hafts are just lumber and linseed oil

Also, apparently Buffalo Leather Straps require a level 17 Leatherer? That's gonna be a tough one to track down... unless anyone here is/knows one :D

The rest of the pieces shouldn't be too hard to get. Actual craft is just 7 BS. I'm surprised no one's really made one yet; only reason it's taking me so long is because one man can only do so much ;(

I don't think you can take items out of the leve orders, unfortunately ;' Most likely the ingredients are a Bronze Labrys + something else (spikes 3;)

I'm rank 10 Blacksmith, which means I should be offered rank 15 Blacksmith leves pretty soon. If the Adventurer's Guild offers it to me I'll get the recipe and add it to the site, even though I'm sure I'll fail the quest :lol .

Will there be a GAF guild Day 1? This game is interesting and seems a bit more indepth than WoW in regards to crafting, which is what I was after. Strangely, I notice everyone seems to be crafting and level up via that - is that the best way?

Hmm, do the regular cactuars drop them? I got over 1000 hp now so I might be able to take 'em. With the right party.

I'll tank, my CON friend will heal, and Jinko can blast the shit outta them when they're down to 200 HP or so.

Don't think you will be able to change between Mage/Melee as easy as in FFXI.

I hope there is. After playing around a bit more I'm really getting into it. I had no idea that being a fisherman would have it's own quest line - and a pretty fun one at that!

Yea, the more I play, the more I like!
