Final Fantasy XIV Information Thread | PC Open Beta... yeah it's not really open.

There were signs of housing in the beta....at least in Gridania in one of the locked out areas. Id assume that housing would also open the way to delivering items as it was in FFXI but thats all speculation.

It would be great if Lily Hills and The Fronds were both housing districts, I always thought what LOTRO did with housing was really cool.

smh. I already have a nice gaffer who's willing to give me their ffxi account. :)

Whelp, one of you is getting your account stolen. I don't really think you (or anyone who would "loan" their account) understands how this account system works. Hope none of you were planning on using a security token.

valenti said:
No he's not going to play ffxi anymore. Would that still be considered stealing an account?

Do you like bullet points? I do.

1. Of course it's not stealing if he gives it to you. But, that's not the arrangement you asked me for.
2. You're soliciting account information via PM, that's TOTALLY on the up and up right?
3. I have no idea who the fuck you are, yet you thought hey, I should PM this guy and ask for his account THAT'S a capital idea.
4. Not only do I not know who the fuck you are, but you obviously know nothing about me either, because I'm playing 14 at launch, so even if the logistics of sharing an SE account weren't completely, overwhelmingly NEGATIVE for an active FFXI player or SE members user, I STILL wouldn't have shared the information.

And no, I couldn't just say this via PM.

Oh and this wasn't a thread derail, it was a "bonus" post.

lol, well done posting it here, dude is probably just a scammer, or some RMT site's lacky.
Next thing you know he'll make a viral marketing topic for his RMT site of choice.

"Hey guys is superdooperffxivgil4cheap.com a good place to buy gil from? I've heard great things about them and they have a 5* ebay rating! also are you excited about the new xbox fan coming out! wheeeeeeee!"

I don't think I'd risk using an exploit like that on retail anyways. It's a good opportunity for them to send a strong message right out of the gate, banning/suspending with reckless abandon. They may have some crazy detailed loggers and trackers in place for all we know.

If elements play a huge role in crafting then I may wait until it's confirmed that we can reassign all of our stats (instead of just the last few) before assigning any elemental things.

Also, there was a post somewhere discussing which elements went with each crafting class based on the abilities found in the dat files. Anyone recall what those were or know where it can be found?

You can reassign as many times as you like, about once every 45 minutes or so.

As to your second question, maybe this?

Every time I tried to reassign it would only let me do the last 9 or so points, not everything I've assigned. If I leave those 9 and wait 45 minutes can I do more?

I guess either way it's a little odd. Almost like SE created a system where they want you to level multiple classes, yet if you do, many will be lacking due to the stat/elemental distribution. I wish they'd make up their minds...

That said, I had a very high PIE and Water attribute, yet I didn't see better results with Culinary compared to my other crafts. So I'm not sure how much this really effects things.

You can reassign every single point beyond your base stats, you just have to wait for the cooldown a bunch of times. Shouldn't take your more than an hour or two to reassign all of your points. Technically I think it takes an hour if you are really on top of it.

Having a cool down is silly.

Theres also the point substitute traits that automatically exchange points from certain categories while equipped.

Would've been nice to have an OT with well made banners after seeing the Metroid and Halo OTs.

All you would need is:

A decent title banner
Platform/dev info
Release date info with box images
Trailers
Jobs/races
Citystates
The main site
Helpful sites

Maybe i'll see what I can put together if no one else volunteers by this evening.

Just make sure it doesn't suck. :D I was working on some artwork for it back when I wanted to do it. Maybe eventually I can finish it. Also try to keep a section for latest news and updating the player list.

This game just need a thread in the online section, you dont need to sell this game with that bs OT stuff, this baby sells by itself.

That might be best actually, kinda like the WoW OT in online.

I would but I'm god-awful @ photosohp :(

If you get me some nice banners I can see what I can do tonight and try to keep it updated :)

We could combine fansite assets among other things and then update stuff with Pai's art once PS3 hits...or something?

Thing is we've definitely had members in the XI LS who aren't GAF members. So if we want to include them in our player list or relay messages to them we can't really do that by having it all in the Online section.

I disagree, we need this game to sell as many copies as possible, and hiding the thread away in the Online section won't do that.

I really don't think this game is going to live or die by GAF's support :lol (it's an MMO 95% of GAF hate it instinctively)

- Transferring Character Names to the Official Release Participants of the Open Beta Test will be able to transfer their character names from the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test to the official release. As long as the worlds selected in the open beta test and the official release are the same, the character name used in the open beta test will be usable in the official release.

* Upon the transfer of the character name, both selection of the world and character name input need to be done properly. Please make sure to remember both the world you belonged to and the name of the character you used during the open beta yest.
*If the character name has been determined to be improper by Square Enix, the transfer may not be done.
* After the open beta test has concluded, the character names still existing on the account will be transferable.

-Transferring Character Appearance to the Official Release During the open beta test, saving a character’s data at the time of its creation will allow you to create a character with the same appearance in the commercial release of the game.
* Data on character appearance will be saved under My Documents. Please be aware that the transfer cannot be done if the My Documents directory is deleted. Uninstalling the beta client "FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version" will not cause the data saved in My Documents to be deleted.

- Reminder to the Players Who Have Purchased "FINAL FANTASY XIV Collector's Edition"
Upon the start of early access to the Realm of Eorzea, server congestion on the Square Enix Account Management System is expected. By completing the following process on Square Enix Account Management System, you will be able to smoothly begin your adventure.

1. Register Square Enix Account Beforehand For those of you who have not obtained a Square Enix account, please visit the following website (http://account.square-enix.com/regist/) and complete the registration process.

2. Selecting the Payment Method
Square Enix Crysta can be selected as the payment method for monthly service fees.
*Additional payment methods will become available after the Square Enix Account Management System maintenance, which will be completed between Sep. 21, 2010 from 02:00 to 06:00 (GMT).

- Transferal of FINAL FANTASY XI Player Character Name to FINAL FANTASY XIV When creating a new FINAL FANTASY XIV character, FINAL FANTASY XI players’ character names will be prioritized. The character’s name will become “Given Name: the Player Character’s name in FINAL FANTASY XI” + “Surname: the name of the Player Character’s World.”

* Please note that you will not be able to transfer your Player Character name in the following cases:
- If you have created a character before linking your PlayOnline ID (It is, however, possible to transfer Player Character names by deleting the characters you created, linking your PlayOnline ID, and then re-creating your characters).
- If, at the time of creating your FINAL FANTASY XIV character, the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI Content IDs are invalid (the Content IDs have been canceled and are thus not being billed).
- If the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI is in the free trial period.
- If there are no FINAL FANTASY XI characters on the linked PlayOnline ID.
* If you have recently created a character, transferred Worlds, or used the Character Reactivation Service on FINAL FANTASY XI, it may take some time before you can transfer your Player Character name to FINAL FANTASY XIV.
* Users can create characters with new names, regardless of whether a PlayOnline ID is linked or not.

- In-Game Bonus Items
→ To receive the in-game bonus items that come with FINAL FANTASY XIII (initial batch only), FINAL FANTASY XIV Collector's Edition, or FINAL FANTASY XIV Standard Edition, you will need to register the item codes which comes with the corresponding product. To register an item code, please follow the steps below:

1. Log into the Square Enix Account Management System (_https://secure.square-enix.com/account/)
2. Select the "Select Service" option under "Service and Options"
3. Select "FINAL FANTASY XIV," and then "Add a service account"
4. Enter the corresponding item code, and then select "Next"

* The in-game bonus item will apply to the corresponding FINAL FANTASY XIV service account once the registration is complete.
* When you create a character on the corresponding FINAL FANTASY XIV service account, the character will start off with the in-game bonus item in possession. Please note that characters created prior to the registration of the item code(s) will not receive the in-game bonus item, so make sure you register the code prior to the creation process.

→ Perks for Simultaneous Players of Both FINAL FANTASY XI and FINAL FANTASY XIV If a PlayOnline ID with an active FINAL FANTASY XI Content ID is linked to a Square Enix account with a FINAL FANTASY XIV service account, all new characters created on that FINAL FANTASY XIV service account will start out possessing an in-game bonus item.

* Please note that you will not be able to receive a special in-game item in the following cases:
- If you have created a character before linking your PlayOnline ID (It is, however, possible to receive the in-game item by deleting the characters you created, linking your PlayOnline ID, and then re-creating your characters).
- If, at the time of creating your FINAL FANTASY XIV character, the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI Content IDs are invalid (the Content IDs have been cancelled and are thus not being billed).
- If the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI is in the free trial period.

I just checked my order status at Amazon and apparently when I pre-ordered I didnt select release date delivery. I tried to change it via my current order and the option wasnt there.

I went ahead and started another pre-order to see if the release date delivery option was there and it wasnt. Does anyone else have an order at Amazon and have it set up for release date delivery?

Looks like I would have to choose 1 day delivery to get it by the 24th. I was hoping to get it earlier in the week to get everything set up for the weekend so I could get plenty of play time in, assuming the servers and everything werent going bonkers.

Anyone know of a good place to pre-order and get it earlier?

Already uninstalled the beta so I'm wondering if someone knows the answer to this or wouldn't mind testing it out.

Say I have a retainer selling things in Market Ward A. If I later call that retainer to the inn to swap out some gear will they still be selling in Ward A or do I have to go back out there and place them again?

I wonder when we can actually redeem our codes. I have that FFXIII one ready but just tried to use it and it said it was invalid. Hopefully we can get that out of the way early.

I was wondering the same thing actually, It seems the EU version is still throwing up error's. No idea if the NA codes work yet or not.

I'm fairly new here, and a bit of a lurker, but this site has been extremely helpful throughout the last month.

I'd love to play with everyone here. Is there an official server chosen for the NEOGAF site?

Lindblum. Head over to the Online forum and check out the FFXIV thread there to put your name in and see the list of everyone else who will be playing from GAF so you can get yourself a linkshell thingy in game.
