FINAL FANTASY XIV: Stormblood - Launch Trailer

The game developers have stated they have taken inspiration from game of thrones, this isn't a controversial statement and I'm a fan of the game.

Which is why I'm so confused about Corvo's random ass salt about it. Seems like he needed to shit on XV and just did it for no reason.

Looking forward to early access next week! I certainly miss Uematsu's music, but I'm still anxious to hear what new tunes Soken has cooked up for us. I really hope they're able to deliver on the concept of wrestling away control of Ala Mhigo from the Garleans. I'm guessing our end game camp that gets rebuilt as the 4.0 patches occur will be Ala Mhigo. Maybe that will lead up to us taking the fight to Garlemald in 5.0? It's never too early to speculate about future expansions!

Did they improve the character models for new npc protagonists? It looks like so. The game really needs an overhaul update to characters in general so I hope after Stormblood with the next expansion comes a redesign.

Stormblood in general is coming in with a little bit of an overhaul under the hood. That's (part of) why PS3 support for XIV is ending next week. The game is now PC and PS4 only starting next Friday.

Is there any official list of graphical updates?

No.

For PS4 Pro you get either increased framerate or higher resolution.

Everything else is just different art assets made for the game. A good bit of animations are getting changed though, for the better.

How is it a barrier to new players at all? ThereÂ’s no time-limited Stormblood content or anything, the expansion just adds to the game, it doesnÂ’t replace anything. At HeavenswardÂ’s release there were lots of new players, plus the game rewards people for going back through older dungeons and boss fights, so itÂ’s not like you would have a problem finding people to play in the older dungeons.

As for gear, when they released Heavensward, they streamlined gear and XP from the base Realm Reborn storyline, so by the time you finished you had good starting gear for Heavensward without grinding. I wouldnÂ’t be surprised if they did that again this time, with Heavensward content.

I think the biggest "barrier" in my mind now is that they keep adding new class options that might attract newcomers...and then leaving them locked behind already being at a certain point in character/story progression.

There's now 5 job options that you can't access until you've dumped a fuckload of hours into the game's story content, and it sure as hell would be nice if that weren't the case.

^ thanks. Whelp, just bought it. Can you choose servers? If so which one should I choose? :3

Congrats! Where are you in the world? If you want to play with most of NA Gaf they are on Ultros server which if I remember correctly is on the Primal Datacenter.

There are 3 gates behind expansion content. Red Mage and Samurai just require you to hit level 50 and complete the base story. It sucks that Dark Knight, Astrologian and Machinist are Heavensward only and they become available pre-Heavensward one day. Going forward they said they don't be doing that again at least.

Yeah I'm in the US, so it looks like ultras it is! What's the best FFXIV database/forum? I remember back in the FFXI days they had allakhazham or w/e

I have to admit that, on some level, I just can't quite grok the hostility toward doing all the content the game has on offer and toward the idea of the quest gating for the expansions.

You're essentially asking to skip most of the content that you paid good money for. Like, you bought that. You're free to enjoy it now! It's good! You should do so!

I at least understand if people think there's a pressure to "catch up" but FFXIV has the single most forgiving power curve I've ever seen in an MMO. Catching up is incredibly easy.

Yeah, it's dumb. FFXIV is structured in a different way than other MMO's which revolve solely around their latest expansion while FFXIV keeps all content relevant to varying degrees. Wanting to skip past ARR and HW to begin at Stormblood is lazy and stupid as you won't understand the story and no one's going back through their journal in the inn to rewatch old cutscenes.

That being said, ARR needs to be trimmed down considerably because the production value is so much lower than HW and presumably SB that it actually is a giant boner killer in pushing people toward the new content. If they polished it up and cut out a lot of the time wasting quests, the overall structure of the game would be very tight and there would be very little need or desire for skip potions.

So ultimately it comes down to - do the developers love their game enough to tighten it up at the expense of future revenue from whales and botters? Or does profit come before proper game design?

Your fucking game references the Trump administration. Sod off.

I mean really. GoT? V for Vendetta? Dragons, snow and masked men is all this comparison has.

hahaha what the fuck is this

why do FF threads inspire such potent, random salt

the references are heavy but they're tactful IMO. They're all extremely obvious but it's not like they run the story or anything.

It may be easy, but it's time consuming. Some people might want to play with their friends right away and not do 1 month of diligent catching up and level grinding.

There's barely any grinding as much as there is just old content to do, which to some might count as grinding. But i don't know a world where your friends that are already into 14 wouldn't do an old dungeon with you if they really cared.

I'm already on blackout mode and I won't be able to play till 24~25, but oh boy, can't wait to be back for Stormblood.

Just remember, if something in a trailer looks like a major spoiler, it probably isn't. These guys are masters of misdirection.

They can play with their friends the moment they unlock their first dungeon at level 12 or 14 or whatever which takes roughly an hour. The idea that a new player would want to do content C over content A is a fallacy because they don't even know what A, B, and C are.

I mean, if they subbed because of stormblood hype and not with past content, the normal would be want to do the new hotness content stuff with your friends rather that having to play the catching up game in areas that aren't as lively.

If you were hyped about swimming, playing RDM or SAM or you just want to enjoy high level content at the same time with your friends I can see why people would rather jump the 2.0 slog or even just get a lvl 60 job to ease the burden.

Is not a logic I share, but is something I can understand.
