I can't make threads and I guess this is the closest thing to a general FFXV thread right now, so I guess I"ll just post here about how I just finished the Platinum Demo for the first time. I haven't played Duscae because I only just got a PS4 and I'm not gonna buy Type-0 or run around trying to get a code just for a demo.
I guess the free demo was just... the battle system I guess? It was like 30 minutes of gameplay. It seemed like it could have potential if you sit back and realize it isn't an action game and is still supposed to be approached more like an RPG. It's kinda like Dragon Age Inquisition really. People talked shit about that game just being "hold R to attack or something," but I think people are just too accustomed to all big-budget RPGs being action RPGs these days, and straight-up party-based traditional RPGs almost don't exist in the mainstream console market anymore. Dragon Age is kind of it. It's not turn-based but is pretty much built for the same audience instead of Fallout or Mass Effect The Witcher which try to grab the action audience. Other than Square Enix, BioWare is really the only company in the big leagues still trying to do party-based RPGs. Nobody else is really trying to figure out how to do real-time party-based combat systems on a controller.
Anyway, I feel like I would probably enjoy the Duscae demo more because it has more exploration and combat and, well, more of the game in general. While playing the Platinum demo I realized that when I play an RPG all I really want is just to explore a world full of interesting places and characters, engage in some combat, and loot a dungeon every now and then. That's it. I think too many JRPGs got caught up in tacking on other inconsequential shit or doing things that slowed down the process of exploring/fighting/looting.
