Final Fantasy XV interview: Tabata talks delays, Versus, fan expectation and more

I should clarify: the "feedback" part was my interpretation, not what Tabata said. It could've definitely been planned all along.

Kagari was responsible for the delay and APZonerunner for the car-driving changes. Nova Crystallis running SE now.

Is this the thread for pax impressions? I'll have a big piece up on Kotaku next week, but one thing you guys may be interested in: Tabata came over as I was starting the demo and asked me to try moving left/right as the guys pushed the car, which I was able to do. Turns out they added steering options in response to the Gamescom feedback that driving felt too on rails. It still feels on rails, granted (you can't drive off-road or crash into other cars), but now you don't have to just drive in a straight line.

Also you can play old FF music while you drive which I got a kick out of.

Is FFXV the first crowd-developed AAA game? :P

Hey, Jason - Was this just specifically in the opening when you're pushing it, or was it more open when you're actually driving? In the build I played you couldn't move the car left or right at all when pushing it in the very opening (so that is new), but I'm curious if the car is any less stiff when you're actually driving it (IE, can you turn steeply enough to do a U-turn?) If it's not the latter outside of the pushing when it breaks down part I'm not sure what they've changed, because you did have enough freedom of movement to, say, drive on the wrong side of the road in the Gamescom build... it's just an invisible wall would push you back into the right lane when another car approaches, etc.

Yep, you can steer left and right unless there's another car approaching, in which case the game will gently prevent you from crashing into it. You also can't drive off the road. I don't know if you can actually steer into a manual U-turn, but it doesn't really matter because there's a U-turn button.

Hmm, this is the same as Gamescom, then, at least in terms of the broader restrictions. I wonder if they just made it a little looser? Interesting. Steering when you push the car when you run out of gas is absolutely new, though! Cool stuff. Looking forward to reading your thoughts on the site, sounds like you felt similarly to me about its potential!

I can't believe I watched this shit live. I had no idea what he was saying but I knew it was some next level shit.
I think I did too, and couldn't believe that it was actually happening, a grown man thought it was a good idea to do this. Even worst is when you see the ending and who else could Lightning possibly be talking to but that dude.

Phew, got in time for the ATR line at PAX.

Line filled up really fast.

Is there going to be a thread for the ATR or nah? Too many ATRs lol

at first i didn't understand why they had the car in the game or based the design around the car when you could not even drive it off road or anything, but i realized that you can manually drive to specific points via the highway and get out and then treck on foot

Now why don't more people complain about button holding to attack!?
It's not as apparent an issue for most as the car steering thing. Many probably don't even realize you could hold the button or that the animations aren't 1:1 with the button-presses because ultimately it feels responsive enough for most not to notice anything too wrong with it judging from the current impressions at least.

Long interview with Prompto's English VA Robbie Daymond:

Thanks to Mognet's @Lulcielid.

Thanks for this, this dude sounds like a really upstanding character in general. I like his enthusiasm with the fans and whatnot.

Sometimes VO's don't even want to associate with their fans at all and just do a job, so i'm really glad to see people who really get down the trenches and seem to have a lot of fun with things.

So, is the panel late or something?

Showing off driving of the newest build, looks a lot better.

There's whiplash effect on the cast for sudden fast driving breaks, they don't wear seat belts, LIFE ON THE EDGE!

Foliage looks a lot better, like in the JP gameplay video.

EDIT: Yeah confirmed, you can see it's a newer build looking at the EXP bar. It's the same as in the JP gameplay video.
