Final Fantasy XV Jump Festa 2015 Trailer

The female character (and Asian character design) with a southern accent...this is why people hate dubs.

Other than that, the game looks mindbogglingly stunning, both visually and in scope. I just hope Square-Enix has room for mid-tier JRPG's on the PS4 this gen too.

Man I still cant get over how much I literally HATE the main characters. (standard generic nomura crap designs) which is a huge shame since everything else looks pretty cool and am highly curious to check out the game engine / design mechanics.

Realistically? Mid-tier means mobile -> PSVita, but I'm with you in hoping.

It really seems that Square Enix was languishing with engine problems. I'm hoping that at the meta scale, the adoption of UE4 in KH3 of all franchises slowly warms them up (and Japan at large, really) to the idea that they don't have to build -every- piece of tech themselves. Then maybe we'll see a streamlining of Japan's game development process as happened with many western franchises over the course of the last two generations.

Not that I want annualized titles, mind you, and expecting that for JRPGs is probably murder.

Retooling the Luminous Engine for future Final Fantasy XV games would be a great turnaround especially if it's an easier framework to use. Of course, that's if Final Fantasy XV is a big success and there's demand for sequels.

We're going to get Final Fantasy milked and a few average rpg's on 3DS and mobile.

Squaresoft is gone.

Uhhh...asian?

Does she reaaaallly look asian to you? She looks pretty much what her English accent sounds like, Southern. Which is why her English dub her fits perfectly imo.

I think they're now past there issues with Luminous and are en-route to complete it with the game. I still see XVI using Luminous of UE4, too.

Squaresoft is gone.

Give this a rest already. And there portable outlet and upcoming is really good.

Why the hell isn't he doing every mainline Final Fantasy? Does he cost a jillion dollars? Has he retired? We need him. We need him so much.

I haven't actually seen a localization he's done out of the style/period of English he's known for, but you're absolutely right.

I still keep replying the part in the trailer where the group is walking up towards the blockade before they go into a sprint and assault the soldiers. Like, that is something out of a movie or a cutscene. The animations are definitely top notch!

I think he meant the design that is typically Asian which I also disagree with. That girl looks like your typical American playboy girl.

I really do wonder what's up with SE's localization team. It's not just FFXV, but FFXIII wasn't great outside of the talent and that continued for the entire trilogy. FFXIV ARR is marred by poor VA that just hurts to listen to.

Mainline FFs just don't have great localizations for a while now, and the trend is likely to continue here based on what we heard.

Maybe I just expect too much or don't know enough. I dunno. I'd prefer English over Japanese.

Cor is already one of the most intriguing characters I can remember. Just looking at him gets me uneasy.

What is the appeal of Cor? Honest question. I always figured he looked like every generic white guy AAA game protagonist.

He's just not the protagonist here.

Final Fantasy XV Jump Festa trailer music by VGO & SoundtRec!!! The incredible music by Yoko Shimomura features our orchestra as well as our fantastic rock band musicians!

Well, there you have it. Contractually bound not to say anything till they do. :V It was the first time the rock section of the group also recorded for Square Enix (if you don't count electric bass for KH2.5)

Late, but I guess Jump Festa made for busy days.

Sure thing, I don't mind getting sued and the repo guys can have my house because I didn't like living in one anyway!

sorry, no :(

I bet if you talked to Nomura, he was actually going for a kind of all-American girl look for Cindy. Obviously it would be filtered through his Japanese/manga lens, and made somewhere in the middle between western and Asian girl, but I don't think she's exactly some typical Japanese design.

Besides... This series is defined by hybridity. A fusion of classic fantasy, modern day, and futurism. A series made in Japan that sells more in the west. A series that stays true to its 8-but roots while incorporating post-modern elements and throwing away old game mechanics. And yes, designs that are clearly trying to toe the line between Asian and western sensibilities. I find Cindy's design actually unremarkable in light of this understanding. She's exactly what I expect from FF at this point.

lol /jk

Still, is there anything you can share with us?
Like, for example, if the whole soundtrack has some sort of theme to it? Or if there's gonna be more electric pieces like this (which was really cool imho, the ending reminded me a lot of Uematsu's FFs)?

I wonder if the soundtrack will have any of the pop music influence that was in XIII and to a much greater extent in XIII-2? (Not literal "pop songs" as in X-2.. But vocals, electronic synth lines and bass)

From the current style of the game, I wouldn't expect it.. But I'd sure be okay with it if it did.

Honestly I think these characters are designed around average beauty. I certainly often times see white europeans behind many of these character designs, but from certain angles the asian heritage will pop out. Some designs it's more obviously asian than others. We see first what our expectations would tell us.

When did FF ever had good VA lol

X was janky, X-2 was janky, XII was oh god will everyone that isn't Balthier SHUT THE FUCK UP PERMANENTLY

im still wrapping my head around the fact that we even got an update on FFXV.. let alone an amazing trailer! SE may yet earn my loyalty in the future again

I think you're alone on that.........

Sure, X and X-2 were janky. The XIII games were well recorded... In some senses well acted, but the anime melodrama nature of the plot gave it this stilted nature that didn't feel realistic at times. The ultimate pretentious and hollow anime.

Think about the fact that the last trailer was 2 months ago!

I like this pace! I remember being really worried after no trailer at e3, but I'd say they've made up for it.

Personally I disagree. XIII was where it all went to ****. The entire cast, minus Fang I guess, had me in in shut the **** up mode. Especially Snow.

With a car and a supposed radio attached to it? You can bet on it. I bet every region will have his own songs going on the radio, country, classical, pop. A la GTA. Of course original songs, not licenses.

Agreed, seeing her talk with a heavy southern American accent just served as another reminder of why I hate dubs in JRPGs, or pretty much any Japanese genre for that matter. I know these characters don't look Japanese in the physical sense, but there's no escaping that they're Japanese creations, and with everything that entails from the mannerisms to the obvious anime influence, these characters are far more suited to Japanese voice acting.

But dual audio for the final game is pretty much confirmed at this point, so it's all good.

Excellent point Perf. And now I'll be disappointed if that potential isn't realized. ;)

Man even if XV doesn't turn out to be what I hope it will, this OST is going to be phenomenal. (Well it already is but you know what I mean.)

Snow as a character is horrible, but his voice acting was superb.
I can agree. In my mind I kind of like Snow as he looks and speaks. But in practice he was a big, dumb 12 year old boy trapped in a man's body.

The real question is if Somnus is still in FFXV. :(

So new ATR in February? Sweet, they'll give the demo a damn release date at last, for better or for worse lol

I wonder which summon will be available in the demo, and now that they announced that, the surprise can only be a release window or an airship right?
Also, trunk Cor would qualify
or maybe not

I'm so excited about the soundtrack, one of the main reasons I get excited about new trailers is hearing new tracks, hopefully they won't reuse any in future trailers :)

Ugh I hate Cindy's (Cidney?) design! They went totally overboard!

They could've gotten away with 2 out of four but no they had to go full on: cleavage, midriff, microscopic shorts showing ass and thighs, and boots with high heels. And she's a fucking mechanic! She looks dressed for a red light district than someone who's supposed to be fixing cars!

How about cleavage, midriff and wear some pants and actual work shoes. Or a serviceable jacket and tiny shorts. But no, they went full blown 13 year old fantasy.

They got some things super right! The baseball cap, the face, the hair, the goggles (awesome!), the fact we have a female Cid! But they fucked her up by making her look like an expensive prostitute.

Anyone else feeling that?
