Final Fantasy XV - Omen Trailer

Gladio is the true hero of the game.

Holy fuck that was a crazy ass trailer.

Are those shots or scenes gonna be in the game or just for trailer purposes?

Well that was a great trailer. Now I want a game where it's only Noctis and not his boy band.
"STOP IT.

Hype Levels have reached critical levels!

That was EASILY one of the best trailers that have been released for this game, on par even with the Versus XIII trailers of pre-2010.

The message is also super clear.

This is a game about bonds. In the trailer Noctis is alone, and goes through a dark path that would eventually cause him to go insane/corrupted. What this trailer does is to emphasize the great importance of Noctis' companions throughout his journey. His friends keep him sane, they give him focus, they help and protect him and make him grow as a person and as a future King.
Without them, Noctis (and the world) would end up badly.

This is obviously the dream Regis had that made him request the Bros to accompany Noctis on his journey. Alone, Noctis simply wouldn't make it while staying sane.

Truly a fantastic trailer with lots of meaning!"
Agree with you Ishida, Is exactly what I thought as soon I saw him driving all alone.

Off topic, but out of all Versus related nonsense people get upset over, Driver-san is the one I legitimately miss the most. What a lovable guy. I like to think he still around in the XV universe, doing his thing.

pls Tabata, give me that Driver-san DLC

So while this video was inspired by FFXV, could it mean that perhaps
Noctis is cursed by daemons(demons)? Is it ever explained why he can see the light of expiring souls? Does anyone else in his family have that ability? Why would Regis ask for forgiveness from the gods, though?

It's nice to see that the Aya Brea take damage get naked tech is alive and well.

Trailer is seriously amazing though. Wow. Regis also continues to be a piece of shit.

Heads up. Just got an email from Square Enix Store saying that my Final Fantasy XV Ultimate Collector's Edition will be charged starting Monday for those who have it preordered.

Honestly the more I watch it, the more I feel it's a masterwork of a trailer, both in content, overall aesthetic, and implication. It's got so many subtle things that are extremely disconcerting for people who have been following information about the game - the overarching feeling of loneliness portrayed by Noctis travelling alone without the support of his retinue, the chair in Luna's room being overturned, the Regalia being totaled, when you realize that thing in the desert is a boat and the desert is what remains of Altissia, Magitek soldiers using the subway and smartphones and reading a paper like normal people, the Escher-esque construction of the station, Pryna affecting a demonic form and the reversal showing things may not have been as they seemed all along.

It stands in such stark contrast to what the game is all about, yet is given the creative freedom to do what it does when framed as a premonition.

edit: tfw beaten by ishida
Problem is, that's only readily accessible to people who have followed the game like crazy.

Since you don't see any of the buddies in the trailer at all, how would this piece of marketing work on someone who has followed 15's material and trailers very lightly or is new to FF15 altogether? There is a risk to presenting marketing material that is the opposite of what the game is too, because expectations for what is what will lead to annoyed consumers (see No Man's Sky).

It's not a great trailer, it's just a confusing muddle of flashy material catering to the existing hypers. It's nowhere near masterwork, nor is it particularly clear.

I agree with those who interpret this vision as something that could happen if Noctis' friends don't accompany him on his journey, however the end of the trailer makes me doubt it is just something as simple as that.

Who do you think is the voice that is talking with Regis? I'm guessing it's the crystal, the voice says that he's looking forward to one more death, going by the trailer it should be Luna, so did Regis send his son to kill Luna? why would the crystal want her dead?

Should the day ever come that you changeth your avatar, I know what it will be.

I took a vow for pokerface till FFXV is out.

It should have been out by now.

Falk got robbed.

As Nibel pointed out on page 1, it's also a very Assassin's Creed-style trailer. (well, no surprise, since DIGIC, etc)

The primary target audience is pretty clear.

The masterwork part I'm talking about is how it's got something beyond being a flashy trailer, even if it's a flashy trailer on the surface.

That being said, people who haven't followed information about the game aren't going to pick up on all the things I mentioned. Simple as that. I'm not sure if you're really expecting a 5 minute trailer to actually do that.

I think you underestimate how many people will stumble onto a video like this and will have it sell the game to them. Not "existing hypers", but adolescents who will think it's the coolest thing ever based on flashiness and style alone.

The one talking with Regis at the end is Chaos. *tinfoil hat engage*

He is supposed to have gotten that ability from his near death experience as a child. The interesting thing about it is that from the trailers he doesn't know his dad is actually dead and I would think he would be able to "see" that.

Soooo, am I the only one who doesn't really care about Luna? It feels like, she is just barely there.

She was there through most of the trailer. In dog form. White dog= Luna.

One of the points about the trailer is that Luna is a mirror to Noctis. She's working her part behind the scenes and Noctis is the reason why she's compelled into action. The part where they rush into the mirror during the Behemoth fight you can see Stella running with the black dog in front of her, the black dog being noctis.

Luna's
mom dies in front of her own eyes
and she is held hostage for the rest of her entire life.
Luna gets abused as a teen.
Luna gets used as a trophy and method to invade a country.
Luna gets slapped multiple times.
Luna is held at gunpoint.
Luna is getting her ass beaten by the protagonist in visions.
Luna gets impaled in visions.

Suddenly I understand her "I do not fear death!" nonsense, I would have thrown myself under a Niflheim train if I was her. Girl can't catch a break, and she still remains serene and calm. Stronger final fantasy character confirmed.

you'll want to protect her

So what you're saying is his dad isn't actually dead, right? :>

Regis has been the final boss all along

The Last of Us showed scenes that actually were in-game that were never planned to be in the final game, just for marketing. The narrative in the trailer is cool imo, and the action is too, so the trailer does its job of being exciting for those who haven't followed the news about the game. This trailer, more than possibly the rest of the marketing stuff combined, will turn heads.

By saying that the storyline shown in the trailer is not in the game, you might be jumping the gun. This trailer could very well represent part of the story that will unfold, but it just might not unfold quite in the way suggested here. The trailer makes this clear by showcasing this trailer as an omen (and clearly so, with the disconnected scenes that clearly represent dream (and by extension omen) scenes and with the actual title of the trailer too).

I think we do have a masterwork here, with a trailer that is visually and narratively exciting for anyone, yet also gives deeper meaning for the core fans who follow the news on this game. You can't expect the uneducated (about this game) to understand the deeper layers of a trailer without the context the core fans have, but I have argued that there is more than enough entertainment and excitement to please the mainstream.

Edit: beaten by Falk, who says approximately the same as I do:

Remember old classic memories:
Lucis and Tenebrea has a confliction orginated from their crystals. So that's why Stella and Noctis are forced to fight with each other.

That was an amazing trailer.

Between the recent previews and this, I'm back on board entirely.

Gimme this game
