Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

Ah yeah, the name of the demo doesn't make it better or worse.

The name of the franchise will help determine if I can brush a bad demo off and give the full retail game a try though.

Anyone that's saying the name of the demo made it "better" or "worse" for them though... I don't even know what to say to that. Doesn't make any sense.

Actually, they should really just call it tech demo instead of fancy word like Platinum. Because this really is just a tech demo, where we test play sections that will never be in the final game. People who never follow the game's development might be confused and actually thought playing as a kid, going around collecting crystal turning into crocodile are actually real gameplay when it's not.

Now I think it's stupid for them to release a tech demo like this which is a bad representation of the actual game in FFXV. Should have just made Episode Duscae 2.0 now free to public, with new adjustment to the gameplay and new mechanics. That would serve better to actually get people learn more about the potential of the game and interest them.

Yeah we are not playing as kid Noctis in the main game, he's just available via flashbacks. Although, this demo being tied to the anime is pretty cool.

Sucks that ATR's are gone so next time we hear about XV is at E3,GC and TGS (well by TGS the game is already gold)

Is this confirmed?

My guess the PR team for the game, thought it was better...they thought wrong.

Does anyone know if it's possible to reach Carbuncle in the Living Room area? When it's up on top of the stack of books. I've tried messing with the blocks a couple times already but no success yet.

You mean Tai Yasue the real man in charge, Nomura at the most these days just gives input for KH3. The man is probably busy with FF7r despite being credited as the director of KH3.

Really? hm, interesting, didn't know that.

As a total aside I like that we're getting a railway defense mission. This is the kind of story set piece I missed in XII and XIII. And being fairly old and having started gaming way back, it amazes me we can now have a battle where you're warping between three airships and a moving train in this kind of huge open world.

Yeah what they are acomplishing in terms of mechanics/tech possibilities is more important to me than graphics/IQ.

I'll get you a quote essentially there's a KH team but Nomura isn't there with them. He calls them up and offers suggestions and things relating to plot and gameplay.

Ray here's the video.. The funny thing he calls it a tech demo lol and talks about combat go to the 53 min and explains the tech demo, minute 59 he talks about how information will be rolled out.

He also mentions the following:
Watching the ATR again Tabata says the following:
"Yes, you can fight but it's slightly different from episode Duscae where we took a snippet of the game to experience and play"

The casual person wanted this.

Well nothing wrong with wanting / missing a Final Fantasy game set in Traditional High Fantasy is there ? Got some great memories from older FF games and FF used to be one of my favourite game series, but lately FF has hardly been top of it's game like it once was.

Yeah it's the "faux-medieval style" as you put it, that I miss. It would be nice to get one more FF game like that again.

I'd be down for that. I like what XV is doing, but after 10 years of lead up to it, I'm definitely excited to see what they do with the next game.

SE needs better PR at times lol I mean I knew it was tech demo and Tabata clearly states what it contains and how different it is from Duscae. But why not be clear about it first hand for the uninitiated?

That was was a super boring demo.

Probably the worst first impression a demo could ever give.

Also dodge timing always felt super off, and I'm normally good at it in other action games.

It was absolutely awful. I've been following this game for a decade and am willing to give it the benefit of the doubt but wow..it was still incredibly dull. I hope it doesn't turn off too many people from the full game (even though we just saw some new trailers that make the game look decent).

Same here. Great FF games of yore weren't high resolution with flawless IQ. But they were, none-the-less, great. Of course it's nice to have nice looking games, but if they can capture that old feeling of epic adventure, then all the graphical bells and whistles will just be icing for me.

Thanks Noctis, i don't have time now but i'll check your links out later.

For a lot of people this was their first taste of playing FFXV.

I don't know how anyone at SE thought it would be a good idea to let this out with no real tutorials for the combat. No offence to NoctisvsStar, but someone like you shouldn't have to be doing SE's work for them.

And for people like me who have played the previous Duscae demos, I don't know why they would think we would have wanted the buttons to be different from how they were before
Circle for attack?
. Really hoping that button remapping is in the final game - don't want to have to use PS4 accessibility options just to fix a single game.

They really need to fix this guy's hair.

They won't fix this.

FFXIII:
Heck, even MGSV (different pub/studio altogether):

I just finished it now but fuck me, that was bad. Why did they even waste development time with this? Your game is already years late and you waste time with this crap? It plays like we haven't just had a decade of 3rd person action games with tight, responsive controls and fun gameplay. It straight up feels like an early 360 title in gameplay terms

I didn't even notice it in MGSV. Meanwhile it was common to see in the XIII games. In fact only the XIII games and XV are where I've seen dithering that bad in any game. It's why I mentioned that XV feels like it's using the same technology as XIII earlier.

I tried once and two blocks aligned perfectly (like stairs) but as soon as I jumped on the first one it all fell apart.

If the full game is as janky as the demo I'll pass or wait for bargain bin.
I have higher standards for FF and after XIII I'm just done with anything that's not passing those standards. They had enough chances.

Were you able to pull off stuff like this?

Well, if they want me to buy the PS4 version, they'd damn well better improve performance, in both resolution and framerate/timing. And I want to be able to rebind buttons.. having attack and roll be the exact opposite of every other game wasn't easy to get used to. Otherwise I'll wait a couple years for the PC version.

I don't know. Rich, Prince Noctis seems like a character that would be difficult to feel sympathetic for.

I doubt this game had a decade of development.

The frame rate/pacing and IQ are becoming secondary issues to my main problem with this demo; having to play through it to get to the boss battle. I wish there was an option to start straight there once you'd completed an initial run.

You can keep fighting boss over and over just go to the panel pass the exit one after you beat it the first time.

The question begs to be answered, why does Carbuncle need a smartphone to talk in a dream? IT IS A DREAM. A talking Carbuncle with a gruff voice would have been funny.
