Final Fantasy XV: Platinum Demo Thread

I thought Royal magic was stuff like the Armiger and such? Elemnetal magic is something different, no?
I remember him specifically saying in an ATR that we'd only get access to Fire, Lightning, and Ice. But no water.

Royal magic is exclusive to Noctis. Basic magic can be used by team members.

The Platinum Demo was VERY special and symbolic, in my opinion.

Guys... I'm gonna say this again... WE FOUGHT IN THE CITADEL. THE. CITADEL. If you can't see the symbolism of that beautiful and proud moment in the game...

When we was Kid Noctis... We explored THIS:

WE FINALLY GOT TO EXPERIENCE STUFF FROM TRAILERS. THE DEMO IS A LOVE LETTER TO THOSE WHOSE BEEN FOLLOWING THIS GAME FOR SO LONG.

Preach brother. No idea why everyone is like calm down. They can eat a dick. To be hyped about something after waiting so long is understandable. Thanks for pointing out those things I may not have noticed otherwise.

Did anyone else here get this slow motion glitch in the demo? I don't know what and how this happened exactly but I recorded it yesterday:

Thanks so much for this!

Here's a general idea of what FFXV would look like at higher framerates. This took forever to get right (╯°益°)╯彡┻━┻

Keep in mind the following:
  • Not 100% accurate. The game slows down to an unspecified degree, somewhere between 3 and 4 times. I chose 3x and 4x because they divide evenly (90 and 120fps respectively). Not 100% natural.
  • Those without 120fps monitors won't see as much benefit. The masters were captured at 120fps. You'll see 60fps, but it won't look as smooth because half of the info is just gone. 120fps makes a huge difference in the final quality of this demonstration.
  • Artifacts from the original capture are magnified: frame drops, youtube compression, whatever techniques Infest did when exporting the original video for upload. 120fps monitor users will have it easier
[*]Webm performance in a browser is subject to browser performance degradation/tomfoolery. It would be best to DL the videos and play them in Windows Media Player (probably the best option), VLC, or Media Player Classic.

4x Speed

I think the highlights are Carbuncle's flip and the Iron Giant's power up animation. So smooth.

How is FFXV gaf holding up?

Everything is great on my end!
Loved the demo, now I wait...

Finishing up Ys: Memories of Celceta in the next day or so, then I think I'll move on to FFVII, or maybe IX. I'm on a hard JRPG kick right now.
Or maybe X-2 (because I skipped that one on PS2)

Why you let noctis get beat up? D:

Seriously, though, I know chances are slim but I want them to update the demo to at least allow you to automatically go to the boss fight if you've beaten it once.

So I just beat this demo having never played a FF game. Personally, I think it looks fantastic, especially the lighting and character models. Just my opinion, but I think the performance issues were blown way out of proportion. Yes, there were dips in some areas and the frame pacing issue was pretty noticeable, but performance wasn't horrible. Also, the combat feels decent, I guess, nothing special. Hopefully the full game has much better combat.

It should, take into account a massive amount of magic was missing, summons, skills, your team, team skills, a bunch of different weapons....aaaand I got myself excited again lol

Finished this for the second time today. I don't dislike the combat, though I do need to learn how to defend / dodge properly. The dining room area reminded me a little too much of Kingdom Hearts. I'm assuming the main game doesn't force me to spend much (if any) time as a kid.

NONE. XV has its own original, majestic, and orchestra sound Lol

The KH vibes are really only coming from the Kid Noctis' section of the demo, in my opinion.

The freaking model for Kid Noctis could be replaced with Young Sora in that section.

But similar music? Nah..... Lol

You kind of sound like someone who's come into this game fairly recently and doesn't remember where it started.

Versus XIII had gameplay trailers where the combat system was essentially a Noctis-skinned Kingdom Hearts, right down to the HP bars and the Command Menu placement.

None you safe, just flashbacks.

So I wonder the weapon abilities like the Dragoon Jump, Tempest, Blood Drain from Episode Duscae have been tweaked so that they are now cast by holding directional button + attack in certain ways? At least we know the broadsword here does Tempest with this way.

Oh, that's a relief. Coming from Bloodborne, the combat in this was kinda underwhelming.

It actually gets better the more you get the combat down in the demo. A couple things to note: Only the boss fight at the end is indicative of the final game's combat. Also, since you literally can't lose the fight it allows you to go at it with the bare minimum effort. Imagine if you didn't need to use blood vials in Bloodborne and the doll was just behind you saying "Here, let me touch the great one inside of you, good hunter" and healed you.

There are a couple of extra hidden weapons that really open up the combat system and make it pretty damn fun. If you watch some of the stuff NoctisVsStar''s been posting he's really gotten in depth with the battle system. I played the iron giant boss around 20 times today and really was enjoying it by the end.

I'm no pro like NoctisVsStar, but it was pretty neat learning to quickly switch to the shield and block in time to get a quick stagger.

Could be added via level ups, also I saw Gladio in the infiltration trailer has a tempest esque move to clear enemies away. Also you remember that move where Noctis gets hit in Duscae but you press at the right moment and he regains his balance? I believe that move was for a high level Noctis.

I'm no pro lol it's just my SF tendencies translates to other games to experiment. So I start messing around doing looking for stuff

Hmm, interesting. I was actually playing pretty badly against the boss, I think. I guess it's one of those games with really solid mechanics when you get good and experiment well.

Yeah, the more I play it the more I'm thinking that. They just did a bad job of explaining how anything works in the demo. Which is weird, because Duscae had a pretty in depth tutorial at the start of it that made learning the combat way easier.

Another thing to note, skip to 0:24 in the video.

The Crush->Ravage string->Vanquish still holds. However, with manual weapon switching, you can switch to another weapon and start with Crush again immediately. You can basically restart combos.

If you notice in the video, Crush does more damage than Ravage. So you can use this to your advantage by getting more damage out of each hit by quickly switching the weapons to restart your combos.

Yeah, I can't even get the jump roll to work right. Every time I try it, I get hit. My lack of skills in an FF game is also to blame, I guess, but the lack of a tutorial didn't help.

This game totally looks like a PS3 game that switched platforms midway. Not sure how I feel about the gameplay yet. It seemed a bit clunky at first, but the teleporting stuff probably makes it a lot more dynamic. I've only played the demo twice (first time it crashed on me at the end). I'm still not very good at the boss fight; it felt kinda Dark Souls/Monster Hunter.

Well.. Damn.

Well, this game's gameplay is unlike any FF before it really so you're not too far behind the rest of us on it. But you play Bloodborne, so you'll get it down.

Forgot to add there's two secret weapons that you can obtain, and you can summon the boss constantly over and over.
Yeah, I know, at the end, you can summon the boss repeatedly. I actually did that unintentionally when trying to avoid ending the demo. Also, is there a reason we could name the little animal? I actually named it Trico. :P
