FINAL FANTASY XV - Uncovered New Trailer(s)

I'm risking a berating here, but am I the only one here driven off by the psuedo-modern day setting? It just seems strange to have a FF game with cell phones and gasoline powered cars.. I guess none of this is new information, but it is very offputting...not to mention it isn't turn based :/ Coming from someone who is not a typical JRPG fan.

The setting and battle system were literally announced ten years ago. And I think Square is moving away from turn based combat, their most famous Final Fantasy is an Action RPG now.

Almost everything that was done back in the versus days has been recreated here and improved upon in all the varioua forms of media.

I love it.

Nah. I'm the guy who's always wanted FF to be set in Detroit. This game gets us one step closer.

Though, this is not even the first Final Fantasy to have cell phones or gasoline-powered cars.

Regardless, I'm pretty certain it's been explained that they start in the most technologically-advanced nation and things get progressively fantastical the further the move away.

Thought this trailer was out of the norm and while didn't go into specifics, I think I finally understand the mood they are trying to convey.

I am honestly interested. I've always felt that Versus looked way more interesting than 13, but that was because 13 always looked like beautiful but distilled jellybean punk le creme fan servicio. Versus had that squalls-first-linkin-park-album thing going on from FF8.

But this trailer actually showed something more. Lets hope this game doesn't have an indentity crisis.

Also I just want to say, I wish Matsuno had worked on this game. I think it is a shame that he is not involved.

The whole idea of this game is that you start from a fantasy setting and go into deeper and deeper into fantasy.

I'll have to look more into it. FFX was the only FF I ever played and I guess I'm trying to "chase that high" again. But a modern setting that evolves into a more extravagant fantasy setting seems intriguing.

I haven't followed the development at all, my bad.

Regis Ou!!

That is one dapper looking badass king.

*Tear*

So good.... *sob* The best part was the GTA-ish gameplay cuts in the second half.

Ah, screw it, I'm getting a PS4K if it makes this game look better.

(I imagined **DANGER** signs lighting up in the four dudes' heads when the flamboyant purple haired guy offered his help)

(:Hello pretty boy

:Hallo thar boobies)

I don't want to complain because I love the trailer, but I expected more summons at this event after that giant Amano artwork went up.

Guess they're saving some things for E3.

Man the trailers make this game seem so sweet, but then I play the demo's and I lose all hype honestly. Hopefully they can do something for the gameplay and performance before launch.

IMO, it would be great if they just save them for when we get to play the game itself! But yeah, can't wait to see all the amazing summons in this game.

Having gotten home and finally seeing, the F+tM Stand By Me cover is actually pretty good

But I dislike the fact that it is being used as such

i like that cover quite a bit. kinda doesn't work with this trailer though, but man this game looks so good.

loving the road trip/hangout theme they have going for it too. makes sense why they picked 'stand by me' for the theme.

finally a release date.

That was very impressive. This along with U4, is the best looking game I have seen. Fly car is great. Watching the event after it aired, and skipping to the good bits, I think it delivered. This is the best stuff on the game since it was revealed all those years ago.

That Stand By Me cover is just perfect. Man the ending will hurt with that going in the background :_

Dunno what some of you are talking about, they totally killed it with the song choice, and the cover itself is great. Starts playing, lots of Noct by himself... Then the crystal theme starts playing behind it, which is just brilliant. And then his friends are there, standing by him.

Perfect emotional set up for the characters.

This game is gonna ruin me. I'm already 100% sure one of the bros is gonna bite it. And I'm already attached to the characters thanks to Brotherhood. It's gonna be Prompto. He's taking pictures to record their adventures together, he's the silly, happy-go-lucky type... Fuuuck I'm not ready for that.

Also can't wait for the inevitable scene with Cid. "Hey guys, I fixed your car. Oh, and I made it into a fucking plane too."

Fucking hell... This game looks like it would drive me up the fucking wall. Knowing Square's narrative sensibilities, the shotgun "every design aesthetic we can toss in here" approach to art direction, that fucking song choice...

*sigh* I just can't. I just fucking can't.

Man. That cover is amazing and what a great choice of song! The English VO trailer is definitely the better cut of the two but both have juicy bits! I love how well the song evokes the "bro trip" vibe this game is going for. It all just clicked once it started playing for the first time during the event! I've officially gone from "excited" to "can't wait"!

I have to disagree in the shotgun design aesthetic. Their work in that regard has been fantastic, even in the much hated Final Fantasy XIII.

That song though.. Why isn't there a photoshopped Stand By Me poster yet.

When will the full song be out? D: I mean I know you get nearly all of it in the Japanese trailer but it has sounds in the backgrounds.

You have big flashy JRPG nonsense with summons, chocobos, flashy natural environments
You have a cast of Japanese pop stars
You have rural Americana
You have renaissance Italian architecture
You have cyberpunk armies

It's like... half of these don't work with anything else. It's all over the place.

You desribe it liked a culturally varied world not a finite room..

Jesus Christ that looks good. Flying car and everything! After playing the demo I had no doubt this was gonna be the grand return of FF, but these trailers look goddamn amazing man. This year is freaking amazing for rpg's.

I think it works a charm personally.

The point is that good visual design can make disparate elements feel atleast cohesive with one-another. That two elements can be part of the same world. I don't see that here. The same way I wouldn't put the aliens from District 9 next to Christopher Reeves as Superman. Square has done this alot for over the last decade or so, and it's no better here than it was then. Actually, the fact that this is all being so realistically rendered makes it more jarring.
