FINAL FANTASY XV - Uncovered New Trailer(s)

I implore you to consider the perspective of the general people who play video games instead of using yourself as a standard. A person with your level of passion do not represent the majority.

Well he's right though. At least here, the hype around FFV13 was higher than for the original FF13 after inicial trailers. At least everyone who knew about FF13 knew about Versus.

Fuckin hell rewatching that Versus13 Trailer gave me goosepumps. Probably one of the best reveal trailers ever.

These trailers + the platinum demo have honestly made me so excited for this which I didn't think would happen. F+TM probably helps. Can't wait.

Square really needs to officially release the environment video. The one everyone's linking is just a stream capture. Of course I'd love a gamersyde quality release, but I'll be fine if the even just release it on YT.

The EN trailer is different from the japanese one, in that it has no voices at all apart from the narrator.

I wanted to see the scene where noctis is angry in English (to see how poor it was done) but oh well..

Each country is getting an exclusive weapon from previous Final Fantasy games.

UK gets Zidane Mage Marshes (IX)

Apparently NA is getting the Cloud blade but I haven't seen confirmation yet.

This is the one I am waiting on. My favorite trailer by far. Just wish it shown more of Insomnia than just the beginning.

I bet before or after release there's gonna be playable cloud:advent children dlc because of the many swords kind of gameplay. I wouldn't mind it one bit if they do.

I honestly have no clue how to respond to that trailer. At first it was traditional Final Fantasy affair, and I honestly thought it looked like crap. Then the "Stand by Me" portion of the trailer hit which gives you an impression of the scale of the world and I was honestly really impressed. Some of the landscapes, both built and natural look amazing.

Think gigas or ogres will be enemies in the game?

In FFXV? Could be be. Ogres would have to be the "smallest" of giants, probably around the size of the Iron Giant. Gigas would have to be something between that and Titan. There's a bunch of other fantasy monsters appearing in the game. I noted that FFIV's Arachne is seen briefly in the English "Reclaim Your Throne" trailer(shown right before Noctis casts Blizzard on the Midgardsormr). It's hard to make it out, but I did see the red gloves(which you see on the artwork) and that it seems to be wearing a dress over it's abdomen(which seems to be a detail Amano added in the FFIV Arachne artwork that didn't make it into the in-game sprite).

I am truly split...

A part of me is starting to believe again. However, I still haven't seen anything that would imply that these characters are going to be likable. On the contrary, so far the trailers have shown some glimpses of melodrama.

On the positive side, coming into this game with tempered expectations really gives it a shot at being able to impress me.

Still, it has been over fifteen years since I thought a new Final Fantasy game was genuinely great. It is getting hard to believe that they will ever be great again. We will see...

Did you watch the first episode of Brotherhood? Might help you get into the characters.

If anything, it's pretty clear at least the first quarter of the game will be dedicated for Noctis character development where he has to grow up and come to terms that he can no longer be the immature teen prince but have to be a proper leader.

Unrelated but does anyone know where I can buy those fly af jackets the business 2 development team was wearing the whole night? This one

Japan let that monster live for a whole console gen, now they get to deal with having the worst weapon.

Interesting info so they decided to do the movie and anime to avoid having to do sequels. The platinum demo will tie in with the anime. A lot info here seems thread worthy.

I can't find a part where they say they're doing this avoid doing sequels.

Brotherhood and Kingsglaive don't add anything major to experiencing FFXV story as a standalone experience. That's been said already by Tabata.

To avoid shipping Final Fantasy XV as multiple games, the team decided to make the story a multimedia property.

Shit, it's late and I can't read.

But again, I still don't see how that makes sense since Brotherhood (at least so far) takes place during the game, and Kingsglaive as well. Unless the Insomnia invasion was somehow worth a sequel, which seems unlikely.

I imagine Brotherhood being mini-stories that would've been "major character sidequest" in the game itself that got cut and turned into anime series. That probably isn't a huge detriment and it's simply a conscious decision to adapt stuff that didn't fit in the story flow very smoothly into a multimedia anime.

As for Kingsglaive, I think this is where the expectation of the original VsXIII concept was probably too much for the team to chew.

Put it this way.

The "Insomnia Invasion", as we knew it from VsXIII, was very likely the prologue of the game where Noctis was there, was part of the invasion storyline, but was defeated and forced into running, leading to the roadtrip section.

In Kingsglaive, just the "King Regis" part of the story itself was long enough to merit a 2-hour movie. I imagine that that if there was a storyline involving Noctis in the original script, that would've extended the original Imsonia Invasion concept to a 6-10 hour long prologue that ends with Noctis escaping the capital city, ala FFVII Cloud and co escape from Midgar.

I also imagine that the "end game" of FFXV would be Noctis returning to an occupied and heavily damaged Imsonia, caused from the fallout of the invasion to... "reclaim the throne."

I can imagine the team debating this and thinking "wait, we have to create TWO SEPARATE game assets for Imsonia, one for prologue invasion and one for end-game?" As well as craft an Uncharted-tier set-piece bombastic prologue arc that is effectively used up for that 6-10 hours, and then loop back into the final part of the game again from scratch.

And then making the decision to say "let's just make one of those, aka the end-game part, and take that original prologue, scrap Noctis out of it, and give what remains to another team to make a movie out of it."

Carbuncle says in the Platinum Demo that the Titan is actually nice... aka the Titan isn't really gonna hurt Noctis. It's gonna scare the heck outta Noctis but the Titan will be tamed.
Just picking him up before the big attack, like Ramuh in the demo.

Your speculation is too vivid. I can literally see Tabata talking to his team.

This makes to much sense.. Tabata is that you ?

That makes sense, and I wouldn't change your assessment as to what took place. The wording on the article throws me off, though. I can't imagine just the Insomnia section alone would be worth another installment. Sure, a big chunk of the game, but not enough for FFXV-2.

We'll have to see whatever else Brotherhood turns out to be. Whatever the case, they seem to be handling everything pretty elegantly so far. It's a shame that we don't get the Insomnia invasion (I don't see it really being like Midgar, more like a 2-3 hour event), but they know best.

Not another installment, no.

But another 2 years of development, causing FFXV to be a 2018 game which will piss SE off, thus forcing Tabata to split the existing FFXV into FFXV-1 (2016) and FFXV-2? (2018)?

I could definitely see that scenario happening if Tabata went to his bosses asking for another 2 years and an additional 30 million dollars budget.

Apparently NA is getting the Cloud blade but I haven't seen confirmation yet.

As someone who mains a dragoon in XIV, I'm jealous of my Spanish compatriots.

It feels weird knowing that Versus XIII is essentially a movie now. Pretty much everything we saw of Versus XIII had to do with the Lucis invasion. Might be for the best. Although I think the OG scene (very first trailer) will still be in the game but take place at the end.

Maybe he meant "How does Noctis survive in the left hand when the right hand is applying enough force to crater the ground, when presumably Titan's bone structure is somewhat solid and Newton's third law is in effect since this is a fantasy based on reality?"

Maybe there's a button prompt requiring you to knightsguard the moment of impact, or else Noctis takes fatal damage too.

What if Noct slips from Titan's hand and get hit by the punch?

I really don't know if leaving the background story of the characters out of the game to an anime and movie is the best idea. I mean, not everyone who buys the game would watch the anime and movie, and they shouldn't be left out of any major plot element or background of the characters and their roles in the story.

Now if the game will sufficiently cover and incorporate all the main material from the anime and movie, then that's fine.

I'm worried about this too - couldn't stand how much characterization in XIII was left to the "novels." At least with XV we'll get the side content translated, but it doesn't have the same impact out of game for me. And there will no doubt be many who play the game but don't watch the media. What's their experience going to be?
