FINAL FANTASY XV - Uncovered New Trailer(s)

I'm worried about this too - couldn't stand how much characterization in XIII was left to the "novels." At least with XV we'll get the side content translated, but it doesn't have the same impact out of game for me. And there will no doubt be many who play the game but don't watch the media. What's their experience going to be?

The same experience of the people who watched The Force Awakens yet they didn't play the Battle of Jakku game neither read the C3P0 prequel story. A transmedia universe doesn't mean that you have to consume all of the products to understand the main story. It means that it gives people access to the main story from other type of media, it's in reverse of what people are complaining, actually. People who like anime will watch Brotherhood, then will be hooked to their characters and then they will be interested in the game. People who watch Kingsglaive will be interested in Regis' son, so they will want to play the game.

Everything that it's being told in these transmedia products is already being explained in the game. We know how the Imsomnia invasion is going to play out, we just aren't going to be there. And everything that's being represented on Brotherhood so far it's a rehash of what's already being told in the trailers and in Duscae.

You are fine if you just play the main game and do not watch neither the movie or the anime (specially the anime), or play the mobile game. But when you finish the game, you might be interested in what happened in Imsomnia at the beginning, so you can watch the movie. It's an organic relationship between the main product and the transmedia ones.

Fair enough.

Yes, I hope this is how it works!

Yeah, I don't think we're gonna miss anything with the Invasion being made into a movie. The newest trailer shows him reacting to it from afar and it's a central plot point. I'm cool with them using it as a movie to garner the interest of a more mainstream crowd. I also like Aaron Paul. He's dreamy. Them devoting a chunk of Uncovered: FFXV to basically say "Man, FFXIII really sucks doesn't it!" renewed my faith that we won't have to go into a menu or another source to understand the story, or potential fantasy jargon like with XIII's datalog.

Of course we're going to lose something, escaping a city under invasion would be a fantastic sequence and an exact fit for the bombastic opening that AAA games demand these days.

Just have to take it on the chin, because this game has to release some time.

Yeah the opening sequence change is the only thng i didn't like.
It would have been a Midgar 2.0.

That said, we still don't know how the new opening is going to play out, i'm curious to see if they came out with something that can top it.

Saw this trailer while watching random YT videos this morning. Went from mildly interested to pre-order the pre-order status. That is exactly what a trailer should invoke.

They really need to fix this guy's hair.

The problem is he has really small intricately detailed hair, but each strand of hair is thinner than a single pixel on screen(this is aliasing). The further noise comes from temporal AA which tries it's best to smooth an image using information from previous frames. The problem is that with detail that small the information in previous frames isn't valuable since it's aliased to and in the next frame it's aliased to hell in an entirely different way.

tl;dr: increase the resolution, solve a lot of the problems. (or release on PC, and downsample to infinity and beyond on NASA supercomputers)

They really managed to capture these cities in game. I think Altissia was paired back in the demo pretty drastically. In the trailer it looked just about the most impressive city I have seen rendered in game. More impressive than the cities in Witcher 3.

I would be so excited had I not played the demo yesterday that looked much worse than this here, so I'm cautious.

That was a great trailer though, that Stand By Me cover is amazing.

I thought the city environment at the end looked about on par with the above...Messing with the ToD in that environment shows off the lighting pretty well.

No, it's perfect for the roadtrip theme.

Minus the "darling" I guess lol

Personally I feel the darling lyric works fine for this. These are obviously really close friends who have known each other since they were much younger.

A quick look up of the definition for darling: used as an affectionate form of address to a beloved person.

Yep, works fine within the context of the game.

You wouldn't use it casually in a sentence to a close friend, but in a poetic, existential sort of sentiment? Sure, of course.

I think it'll be used for a scene between Noctis and Luna, maybe.

I like the way they used Stand By Me, but if I don't have Somnus playing at the credits I'm going to die.

The song will definitely be used in the game. Whenever I was at the Uncovered event I remembered them using the song before the show started.

Also, about the people concerned with Noctis being removed from the Insomnia invasion, it makes sense especially due to the fact that Nomura was originally planning on this game to span multiple releases (and of course that idea was moved over to the VIIr).

I personally don't mind it anymore, as long as the main game is an incredibly solid experience (and it has CGI).

I really like the music in these trailers. The way the epic orchestral music transitions into the quieter Stand by Me cover is really nice.

I wish the main characters didn't look like fuckboys, but that has been standard procedure for a FF game since 1997.

It's been the main menu theme for the two demos, i expect it to be the same for the full game + some important moments + end credits together with Stand by Me.

Probably been pointed out already, but I think this is the first look at a CGI scene from the game since 2013.

Looks kinda crappola by Squeenix standards, who knows if it's even in the actual game.

I think that scene is part of the beginning sequence with Regis saying goodbye to Noctis. It's still in the game.

English trailer is so much better, at least the "Stand By Me" part. It's pretty lame in the japanese version in terms of editing/video footage.

Total opposite for me. They're gonna show a shot of the Moon when the song mentions it? Could you be any more subtle...

1961 Classic. Best cover so far by yours truly:

I'm not saying the song is shit, it's ok-ish but in my opinion it doesn't fit with a final fantasy game. For me a FF game needs epic choir just like the beginning of the trailer. The first track is so freakin epic, i'm watching this trailer 20 times a day just for this track. After the first part is over i mostly skip the second part with the stand by me shite.

Dude, FF vocal themes are rarely ever epic. This is like a tradition.

I'll still never understand this. I never had any issues picking up the jargon in XIII.

I'll give you that one but for me combat and rescuing eachother signals standing by eachother more than nice vistas and tech demo shots.

I'm a bit worried that Tabata has axed Luna as a guest that will show up in our party. In a recent gamespot interview he said she's nothing more than a very important NPC. Why tell us that she would join us in a interview last year then? Is it mistranslation?

That's totally different. Compare it to Eyes On Me.

I don't mind this song because it's original and not some stupid pop cover or whatever.

I always hated it when games just cover or use other songs just because the lyrics make sense for that game.

Same with Black Ops 3, they used the song "Paint it Black" just because it had Black in the name.

The aliasing is due to the way the hair is rendered and while it will look cool in motion in the game with the third person camera, it won't look as good in cutscenes/closeups, especially during daytime lighting.

Good AA/downsampling needs hardware that is only possible on a high-end PC.
