Final Version Battlefield 3 Xbox 360 Screenshots Leaked

Still getting it on 360 regardless because the single player and mulitplayer are split on two different discs and I'm going to sell off my single player disc as soon as I blast through the campaign.

Doesn't matter how good it looks when it's 24 players vs 64 players.

Yea smaller players will work out better for the tiny maps BF3 has.

The BF3 maps we have seen are all countless times more constricted and smaller then anything in BF2.

So many players on the tiny maps will create chaos, especially now with the horrible squad spawning.

I have to disagree. It's possible that you've stopped paying attention to the new maps and media that followed the beta after you canceled your pre-order.

Most people probably don't even know about the hi-res texture pack so who knows if they installed it. I hope there is a message that pops up when you first put it in that says for the best experience install the HD texture pack on Disc 2 or whatever.

Looks good to me. In motion is when I think the game will shine. I'll be getting the PS3 version. BC2 wasn't an ugly game on consoles imo. I'm really hoping the framerate is solid throughout SP and MP.

They already have something to hold on. The better game.

wow. That didn't age as well as I thought it would. I remember being absolutely stunned about that game. First true "next gen" game on the 360 imo.

You obviously forgot about FNR3

Looks decent, but Crysis 2 (and the first title, to a degree) are still the most visually impressive titles on the 360.

Is there any reason for the downgrade to the visuals? Pretty sure the PS3 version doesn't look like that, did they do a botch job with the 360 version or are the DVD limitations to blame?

360 and PS3 version are the same if you install the 360 HD texture pack on the 2nd disc.

I haven't really followed the game, but why the need for a texture pack? If games like RAGE and Crysis 2 don't need one, why does this?

Looking more and more like a botch job from DICE...

A botch job, you say? What do you mean? Are you saying that releasing a massive day 1 patch and not allowing people to review the game until it's on sale are bad signs?

Gamespot is reporting that final review copies will not be received by reviewers until next week. It's possible these aren't screenshots from a final version.

But the game is past gold. I'm sure people have their hands on the final copy. I just need one of them to post some videos of the 360 in action so I can check the fps and tearing.

Without the day 1 patch, you would be worrying about something that may hardly seen in the final patched version.

Eh, Rage install is a texture pack pretty much

DVD is too slow. And this game uses even more aggressive streaming because of larger maps

You'd think seeing what the reaction is to a COD game made by a new studio and the remnants of a pillaged IW would be the most interesting thing in game reviews this fall, but I am going to be more interested to what the reaction is to this game. EA's marketing has shifted the expectations away from what the game is really supposed to be about, and it looks like the reactions to the console versions could be all over the place.

The haters need to shut up. Obviously it's not going to look as good as the PC.

This looks good considering it's being made on hardware that's now 5 years old
Obviously fancy effects are far beyond the capability of the aging GPU in the 360.

Also these screenshots are full size and not bullshots. Would someone post an upsampled 600p screenshot from COD to see the difference, because all the shots on various websites are total PC bullshots with high resolution and AA.

If DICE had just released a cheap console port PC version and called it a day I'm sure opinions would be different, only because there is now a point of reference that the game engine is able to do more. We don't get whining like this on a game like Rage because in that game the PC version has been dumbed down in the name of having the same experience on platforms. Therefore people don't have anything better to compare it against.

Looks decent, but Crysis 2 (and the first title, to a degree) are still the most visually impressive titles on the 360.
You mean it's blurry temporal AA smeared image quality, not really. It doesn't even look that much better on the PC since the meshes are all the same low poly crap.

I would take the higher res rather than the decreased framebuffer anyday, but obviously some people in here want fancy graphics and don't care about the res at all. The fact that this game is running at almost 720p is quite a giant programming miracle.

Well 9 MP maps and a full blown SP, disc space could have very well limited texture space as the PS3 doesn't even need it.

whats the "high res pack"
An optional Texture pack. (Its optional because not every MS Console has Hard Drive)

Do game developers hire people for the arabic translation or just use Google Translate?

In COD4 Karachi map (which is a city in Pakistan), they had all signs in Arabic on the buildings, even though when Arabic is not officially spoken there at all (Urdu is the national language). The map hardly resembled Karachi in any way. So yeah, I doubt these devs do their homework for stuff like this and google translation is a good guess. I bet they will also use Arabic in BF3, when the official language in Iran is Persian.

On topic, games looks good but nothing special from these shots. The lighting engine is the showcase here.

I recall a dev saying that BF3 on PC running on maximum settings was a "generation ahead" of this gen consoles...

Generation leaps ain't that awesome anymore.
I take that to mean that titles with graphics on par with BF3 max'd out would run at 60fps on next gen consoles. Titles that look better would run at 30fps.

I just stripped and sold my GTX580 gaming PC as PC gaming just annoys me so much and it got to a peak with me.
I now game solely on my 360 and even though the textures and framerate are not as good as PC, those screenshots make me glad I have my pre-order for BF3.

Oh wow. That simply can not be true, because that's a new one to me. I know you're trying to damage control this product (for some reason) but saying that review copies wont be out until the game is more or less released because of day 1 patches of all things is just ridiculous to anyone without their head lodged somewhere not kosher. And a reviewer with any sense will call EA on that bs and review the game anyway.

The game is being released in 6 days, correct? It went gold did it not? Yeah, they got review copies. They better have review copies at least in the mail or else this game is in far worse shape than the beta made it out to be.

Ask the mod who posted that if his head is lodged somewhere not kosher.

Not bad not bad. I really doubt anyone was expecting the console versions to look anything remotely close to the PC version. As a console peasant (getting dis for ps3)the most I'm just expecting is for it to look better than BC2. I think it's definitely there in terms of graphics and design right now. BC2 (while a great game don't get me wrong) looks so sterile in comparison.

Looks great for a console game, smh to everyone comparing it to the PC version.

Ysiadmihi said:
Looks about the same as BC2 console to me really, though the jungle levels in BC2 really brought out the ugliness on consoles.

I think you should play BC2 on consoles again, this easily looks better.

But those shots are from single player. And not demanding areas either.

You optimize your game based on the performance spikes, i.e. demanding areas, not the moments where you're walking down a simple hallway. Sure you can make the calm areas look better, but then you run into performance issues when the action heats up.

Different games rely on different level of streaming. FB2 relies heavily on streaming, so the extra speed of the HDD is necessary to have these higher res textures. The DVD (or blu-ray) drive isn't fast enough, thus the need to install the high res textures.

It's not up to the level of some of the other console big hitters (not even close really), but it still looks good.
