Apparently every other place I've lived google likes to swing around without going down that exact street.

Damn, my car was gone... A little treat for The Big Lebowski fans though, if you zoom out a bit on to the street:

I can't find my DVD copy so I can't take a screenshot, but you guys know that part where The Dude just got his car back from the impound and he's gets that burning roach on his pants which makes him crash his car? He crashes right where that front gate of my house now is. There used to be houses on the right back then and the tree down the way wasn't as big however. Does that get me some points?

EDIT: here's the scene, bigups to YouTube.

Where my parents live, and where I used to live. Bonus points for the car-shaped blur at the back of the garage. (I was back home because uni had finished).
home2.jpg

Where I live now that I'm at uni. Slightly less awesome. (It's the one with the orange roof, the view from the front is blocked by a big ugly tree).

Hmm...this...doesn't feel so safe.

What kind of unadulterated world are you guys living in?
If you post without an address the odds of anyone knowing where your house is are pretty fucking low.

This would be true if this weren't a public forum on the Internet. Not just members can see your posts.

That's just plain wicked. Street's really changed since then, huh?

Actually, I've recognized at least 2 neighborhoods that have been screen-capped on here, so if you live in a city, I think the odds are fair that we can (and will) find you.

With that, I give you my (Dad's) house (that I'm currently living in):

5 for the house, 10 for the VW in the driveway, and 15 for my old, little red wagon thing that my little brother still plays with sometimes.

WTF? How the hell did I not notice the Google Van?

Me, just getting home from high school at my old house, sometime between January and May of 2008 (I can tell because those are the only months that I was in school and had the car in the driveway.)

On a Thursday too, as indicated by the trash bins, and other places near me having recycling bins out.

60 points, yeah!

somewhere on this street, but not going to point out a specific place, and maybe not even visible in this picture...way too popular a city for at least one person not to recognize it if I got too specific

You can't even see my apartment from here as my complex is a courtyard behind this building front. As for the address, come find me bitches. I have an amazing Rock Band setup for the cool people and a loaded crossbow and rifle for the creepy fucks.

Here is my house growing up. Place was built in 1904 and is awesome as hell. (Did a side view to show the awesome)

OK, I'm normally a pretty open person, but this is pushing it for me. All of the places I've lived are easily viewable on Street View, but I've never actually been caught by the van, so all I'd be accomplishing in this thread is giving myself another reason to sleep with one eye open.

Agh, now it's weird clicking on this thread and immediately seeing my building and being all wtf for a split second.

This is kind of creepy. Going from the pumpkin on the porch, and the vine growth out front, this shot was taken last October. (I've since cut down the vines and the frame they were growing on.)

Just a second.

I've seen my house before on this, no need to share :?

One place I had in SoCal, the party spot!

House I lived in the longest while growning up in Oklahoma City, never stayed in a place longer than 3 years I don't think. But when I moved away from home at 18, this was home then.

Wow, that's pretty amazing. Not directly my home, but at least the little road by the park I have to walk up to get to my apartment.

Pretty neat.

Sattelite image of google isn't that clear, bing/live does a better job!
(My parent's place, where I live no images whatsowever available)

This is fucking weird...how do they do it? Must be some awesome satellites...

In the Beginning

Street View was launched in May 2007 to allow our users to explore the world through images. At the time, coverage was limited to just five U.S. cities.

The feature provides users 360° horizontal and 290° vertical panoramic street level views within Google Maps. Google collects these images using special cameras and equipment that capture and match images to a specific location using GPS devices. Once the images are captured, they are "sewn" together to create a 360° panorama. Faces and license plates are blurred before the panorama images are served and become viewable in Google Maps.

What are the Vehicles?

When Street View first launched, the platform used to capture images was a van.

Since our launch in 2007, Street View has expanded to include more cities, streets, national parks and even some biking trails. Currently, Street View is available for almost a dozen countries around the world in North America, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region. Scaling the project to this level required more lightweight and high-quality technology.

The van was replaced by a car. We have used different vehicles in different regions around the world to collect tens of millions of images.

Most recently we've added a new vehicle to our fleet that we call the "Trike." We basically took the same technology in our Street View cars and towed them behind a 3-wheeled tricycle in a device reminiscent of an ice cream cart. The Trike lets us reach areas not accessible by car, such as hiking trails, biking trails and college campuses, just to name a few.

Our current platforms include nine directional cameras for the 360° views, a GPS unit for positioning and laser range scanners. We design and engineer the Street View platforms to be simple and require minimal manufacturing resources. This approach facilitates the ability to be up and running in a short period of time and allows us to quickly scale and get our vehicles on the road around the world.

How is it living in Rape Gulch?

Rape Gulch.. nice. We're still trying to decide on a name for the home/property. Hmm.. :lol

Looks more like Pennsylvania to me. Hate that fucking place.

Actually, southern Mississippi. About 35 minutes north of Gulfport. (and only 1.5 hours away from New Orleans!!!!)

Kind of cool to look at old places I lived at and trying to remember how I got to different places. I swear they took out a 'chain link tunnel' between my house and the high school.

As I look at these pictures all I can really think is how Europeans cities look so much better than what we have in the US.

I loved the US, but you certainly have the most ugliest city's i've ever seen :lol

all I'm thinking is how gigantic american houses look. not only are the houses big but there's a lot which have lots of open space nearby. Those kind of houses would be soooo expensive in the UK.

Are they generally really expensive in America or more regular suburb living?

Some of those places do look really shoddy despite the size though :lol

Hmmph, the closest I can get to my house here is this:

As you can probably see the end of the street goes directly into a forest, so StreetView only goes to the closest corner.

...and my old crappy appartment building in Berkeley.

I think I lived down the street from you while at college :o
