I discovered legend of grimrock. I just finished the 2nd one and I really wish their was a 3rd but it doesn't look like there will be. So does anyone have a recommendation for other games like it?

The story and setting were really good and I loved the controls and gameplay. I also enjoyed its semi slow and methodical style. So I'm wanting more games similar to it. I just liked that first person dungeon RPG style it had.

Well, there isn't really anything EXACTLY like it.

BUT

There's Druidstone, which is from the same developer.
And there's Might & Magic X, a game with some similarities and some remarkable differences (turn-based battles, for one, and a fairly inferior production value) that I enjoyed almost as much.

EDIT: There's also Grimoire. Another first person blobber that RPG Codex can't ever stop gushing about. Personally I find the UI a bit TOO old school for my taste, but I often considered giving it a chance.

This looks decent despite the tacky promo art.

Or Vaporum.

Even Star Crawlers maybe.

Actually, Steam's "more like this" when checking out anything like Legend of Grimrock is pretty good in showing similar games so do that.

Or the classics if you haven't played them. From Dungeon Master to, for more RPG than dungeoneering, Wizardry 8 (or earlier games, or the Might & Magic RPG series).

Or maybe From Software's early King's Field games will scratch a similar itch. Or other console games like Shining in the Darkness and Shining the Holy Ark.

Well you're in luck, Legend of Grimrock and Legend of Grimrock 2 are decent examples of a genre of role playing games called "Grid-Based" First Person RPGs, or first person dungeon crawlers, there are a lot of great games like Grimrock ranging from the 90s all the way to present times. For starters, on PC you can check what the Steam community thinks are good recommendations.

The Might & Magic series and the Wizardry series are classic and absolutely worth a shot. I think you can find them on GOG.com. Here we go, Wizardry 6+7 and Might & Magic 6-pack Limited Edition. These are ridiculously good packages for the price on offer. Wizardry 6 and 7, and Might & Magic IV & V are fundamentally masterpieces. The graphics should be no issue because they're 2D, but the interface will require a little patience to adapt for. It's worth it though, they're incredibly good video games. Wizardry 8 is often praised as being not only the best entry in the entire genre but also one of the best video games ever made - but i haven't played it, so i can't comment.

Then there's a whole bunch of japanese grind-based first person RPGs like Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey and the Etrian Odyssey series.

If you don't mind going retro, and in addition to the ones already mentioned, the original Eye of the Beholder games are probably Grimrock's biggest inspiration (I and especially II, the third one was worse, and made by another developer). Those games are still enjoyable despite some anachronisms... I'll probably never forget EOB2's intro visuals and music :). Lands of Lore was also pretty great.

If you don't mind turn-based combat with a similar concept you could also try the Bard's Tale Trilogy remake.

If you can get past the terrible weeb artstyle, the Etrian Odyssey series are some of the best blobbers out there.
Aren't they grindy as hell like most RPGs from Japan?
Being grindy is fairly antithetic to what makes games like M&M X or LoG good.

There is some grinding, but it isn't as egregious as a lot of jrpgs. I had to do plenty of grinding in some of the old Wizardrys, Bane of the Cosmic Forge I remember in particular, grinding the crap out of the opening area to survive.
I love the original Eye of the Beholder and its sequel Darkmoon. The 3rd game about Myth Drannor was crap.
I also have super fond memories of Might and Magic 3: Isles of Terra, and the Xeen follow-ups, but I dunno how well those have aged.

Check the official forums for Grimrock and see what mods people have made. I've read about full size adventures created by fans you can download via Steamworks.

Jeez, I totally forgot Grimrock has Steam workshop support. I imagine there are probably a ton of them out by now. iirc, someone was doing a full conversion for Eye of the Beholder!

Current best of this genre, other than the Grimrock titles, are Vaporium, Might & Magic X and Operencia. Most of the rest are not even close to as good as the Grimrock games.

Might&Magic X and The Bard Tale 4. Definitely some of the best « new wave of blobers » I have played along Grimrock.

Wizardry 8 is a masterpiece, but older. Harder to get into.

Came here to say this, and throw SMT: Strange Journey onto the pile too.
Oh God yes. Best Megaten game we have had those past ten years.

Don't know why you're getting all these turn based blobber suggestions when you said you wanted the same gameplay. Wrong sub genre ppl.

Anyways, you should play the granddaddys (and pinnacle of the genre).. Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes Back before anything. http://www.ragingmole.com/RTC/index.html

Also. check out.... Black Crypt, Lands of Lore, Might & Magic 6 & 7 and the Ravenloft blobbers,....Strahd's Possesion & Stone Prophet if you enjoy that setting. (great atmosphere)

Does it need to be Grimrock style where enemies are moving around too, or are you into turn based as well?

Also, preferred platforms? Definitely my favorite genre.

What happened to the dev team? They could make an absolute killing with a Switch port. Dungeon Master worked well on Super NES so the controls should adapt.

The mentioned Conglomerate 451 just got a big update too.

So you don't know why people suggest the turn based stuff... But then you also suggest various turn based stuff... And also games others already suggested like the Dungeon Master series... But you wanted to criticize other people's suggestions more than anything anyway... Ok...

The hell you talkin' about. Nothing I suggested was turn based. (M&M 6 & 7 have tb and real time modes)

Please....wake the fuck up.

And thenyou go suggest some procedurally generated crap.
