'Fire Emblem: Awakening' Makes You A Main Character

Played the GBA games. I've been thinking about tracking down PoR and RD at some point but my backlog is massive as is. i'd definitely get this if it came to the US though.

This just makes me even more disappointed that Nintendo screwed over everyone by not localizing FE12.

FE3 is one of my favorite games in the series. I'd gladly keep the new game Japan-only if it meant we could get FE12 in America.

I like being a playable character in FE12, but I also liked how other units would regularly break the fourth wall and talk to me in FE7. I wish I could do both, where I make a unit but the characters talk to me instead of my avatar.

Do it. Those games are amazing. I replay both of them nearly every year.

I remember what Dragon Quest IX did with character customization -- while it was pretty neat, it came at the cost of a silent protagonist and three other silent husks without personality or purpose that traveled with the protagonist for no apparent reason, even being omitted from cutscenes. I do hope this game implements it better (and it probably will).

FE12 had the same feature, and it was definitely not a silent protagonist. In fact, it was implemented specifically so all the other characters could talk to it, thus giving them more personality than cardboard, which was one of the major complaints about FE11, being a remake of an NES game. So I think we'll be fine.

...although that makes me wonder if My Unit is going to serve the same purpose it did in FE12, since these new characters would presumably have their own personalities, like in every other recent Fire Emblem game, so you wouldn't really need My Unit to help them along. Hmmm. Ah well, I'll take an awesome broken customizable unit regardless.

Ahh, I see. That's reassuring. :)

So now I can reset to save myself?
I'm afraid not. If you die its game over.

I say Intelliegent systems needs to put roguemode into the game. No restarts. Main characters dieing=game over+save deleted.

Really hope they don't screw up the balancing again like they did with the Book 2 remake. My Unit was far and away the best character in the game, and severely overpowered. It'd be nice if he was on par with the rest of your units in this game.
How I yern for a Fire Emblem with the return of Sucky Leader Syndrome. Then again its debatable if any lords actually suffered from it.

Sad that, as an American, that's what I'm thinking =/
You have to trust in homebrew as well in that case. Or buying a European 3DS too.

I like to think that because Nintendo is in the mode they are in now, that the 3DS has to succeed no matter what, that NoA/NoE aren't operating 100% solo at the moment. That they (I hope) are simply doing what they are told by NCL, no questions asked. With possibly some leeway of when to release certain things. I hope this case anyway. It helps me not think about how inept NoA has become and the disappointments they've caused.

I'm only eight chapters in but Leaf from Thracia 776 seems to be pretty weak.

The scrolls. No one is truly that weak in Thracia 776. Plus the 20 stats caps means it's very easy to cap them.

I thought My Unit was too overpowered in FE12. I not sure what to think about it in Awakening.

I have a feeling they will. They want to keep the 3DS full of hit software releases to keep the momentum going.

Fire Emblem games are niche games at best. I mean, I love them, but let's be realistic here, they don't push systems.

A little off-topic, but how was FE: Radiant Dawn for the Wii? I just recently found it for cheap.

It's really great. The opening act is a little slow, but the rest of the game is phenomenal. It's a lot longer than Path of Radiance, and not as consistently great, but parts of it are better than anything in PoR.

Is it bad that I want Nintendo to be in panic/danger mode like this from now on? They'll stop skipping releases for poor reasons and be forced to give us more of what we want. It's perplexing to know that the DS and Wii are Nintendo's most popular platforms, and at the same time the two platforms Nintendo has skipped the most worldwide releases for their games. Soma Bringer, Archaic Sealed Heat, Pikmin 2 Wiilease, Disaster, Inazuma Eleven, The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Fire Emblem 12...

By the end, I thought RD was the best (of the ones that came to America), but it took a while for the game to pick up. It's also hardest in the early chapters, which I think caused frustration for some. Later on, it opens up a lot more and plays with the series' conventions, which I appreciated.

Plus, I thought it was really effective in making you feel like a badass in the last levels, more than any other FE.

i'm glad we're getting new fire emblem, but i want them to continue with the remakes, just so we finally get genealogy of holy war and thracia 776.

i enjoyed shadow dragon. not that i played it for its story or anything, but the maps were fun.

did a small group of people hate the 3 remake too?

Not hate, but I know people who didn't like the My Unit character. I'm one of them. That unit is way too overpowered and just stuck out like a sore thumb in the story. I don't hate it, nor do I hate Shadow Dragon, but there are little things that pissed me off about both games.
