Well that's a nice feature. Actually I've had equal success skipping the intro and not skipping it.
 
I think they finally found a way to let us update only the updated portions of the firmware rather than the whole thing every time. When my PS3 rebooted after installing I got this screen for a couple seconds:

I've never seen that before, and it only happened upon the first reboot.

Anyway this is pretty nice. Theres a super slight difference between the original font and rounded, but rounded is much nicer imo. Colored backgrounds like PSP, FINALLY. News ticker is nice but the damn thing lags XMB movement when it scrolls laggy-like.

Also am I crazy or is there new "mouse" icons for the PSN? I dont recall seeing that hand type before.

No, they just didn't include alpha order for Games. Also, editing album info for a game appears to count as "recently played".
 
Whats up with this damn bar? All it does is scroll stuff I pick!? Why doesnt it go through the list like an RSS feed or something!?

Yeah I've been doing that trying to get it to lag/slowdown to see it but it runs just as fast as it always has.

The notification icons in-game have gotten a slight facelift...they're now black and sexier. It also finally displays when a game has finished downloading (I think it only happened once you got back to the XMB).
 
Great update. Downloaded in less than an hour which is a surprise. normally it takes me 2 hours. I hope sony releases a software that'll help us make our own themes. with gaffers and their photoshop skillz, the possibility is endless. :lol :lol :lol
 
I like the new themes they have introduced for the icons and stuff and it awesome that they still let you use your own wallpaper instead of forcing you to use to weeksauce drawings they have. Hopefully they will keep the coming for free dammit, Sony you better not pull a Microsoft and charge for fucking themes dammit and I also love the new chat room thing very elegant and stuff. Now get some avi support for videos and in-game invites to friends and all that good stuff and I shall be very happy indeed.

They don't charge for them on psp, why would they start now? There is even a custom theme maker for the PSP. I assume that we are getting a PS3 version of that theme maker soon.

I don't what the deal is with your XMB Dot50Cal, but my XMB doesn't slow down at all, the ticker scrolls through every article title, and yeah I think that new hand icon on the PlayStation Store is indeed new.

One of the PS blog entries today mentions that there will be a way to make your own themes.

Hell yeah I was surprised as well I started the download went to make a sandwich and came back and the ready to install page was up I was like WTF there has to be something wrong but it wasn't hopefully they have done the same for the PSN Store.

They actually outsource the download to another company they've hired on to handle the firmware downloads. Why they havent done that with the store, I have no idea.

I can't even begin to imagine how long the Uncharted demo is going to take to download tomorrow.
 
where do I download this firmware?

I tried to look for it in the PSN store but its not there, I went to settings menu on the PS3 and pressed system update but its telling me there is no update for the PS3...


where the hell did you guys find firmare 2.00

I am willing to wait for that download but still they should do what ever they have to do so that things are fast and smooth.

It's going to be pretty bad. It took me 2 hours to download the Need for Speed ProStreet demo.

I got it by using the system update. Try turning off your system and doing it again.
 
Ratchet & Clank 2 and 3 still run way too slow on my European 60-gigger, Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy doesn't boot at all, and there's still the same old glitchiness in Champions: Return To Arms' character selection screen.

My hope that these remaining issues will ever be improved upon is just about to fizzle out.
 
I'm not having the laggy thing either.

But I didn't like how aesthetically out-of-place the info bar looks and I disabled it anyway. It needs to blend in better with the classy wave theme, IMO. Perhaps down the line, they can make it match the style of whatever theme you are using a little better.

I'm also pleased to report that Remote Play is working perfectly for me. I'm using an Apple Airport router, and have had zero problems with it turning on randomly. The Wake On LAN functionality is working as advertised with my setup.

Good job, Sony. I've been a big proponent of Remote Play since it went from a local connection to "access anywhere" via WiFi. I've thought it was a killer app since then, and have used it a lot. This puts the last piece of the Remote Play puzzle in place.
 
I've just noticed that when I turn off my PS3 to standby mode (either with the touch button on the system or the PS Button on the controller), the WiFi light stays on and I can hear the fan still murmuring at its lowest speed... I have to use the hard on/off switch in the back to get the WiFi light and fan to completely shut down.

I'm hoping this is some sort of glitch with firmware 2.00 and not a hardware problem with my system. Anyone else notice this??

Are you sure remote start is off? Some people have had their ps3's turning on and off for some unknown reason.
 
I have turned it off and on 5 times now

system update:
the latest version of the system update is already installed, there is no need to update.


thats What I get and I have firmaware version 1.93

Are you in Europe? If so, it might not up yet. Otherwise, maybe you'll need to wait for them to post the firmware update on the website instead.

I didn't have to turn my PS3 off. I just went to System Update and downloaded it. Are you in North America? It may be a region thing if not...

Ah thanks for reminding me...I remember enabling the new Wake on Lan feature, it's probably that, I'll go check. :lol

Yeah, if Remote Start is on, that's how it works. It's not a bug. The system has to stay in that "low idle" sleep mode for it to know when to turn itself on.

What firmware are you using on your PSP, 3.72? I am currently custom 3.71-2 and waiting patiently ;)

Yeah I just turned it off and the PS3 goes into the full standby again. But I'll probably be turning it back on, because Remote Start sounds awesome. :D
 
Wake on Lan feature is super sweet.

I didn't realise you can change the settings, so the PSP buttons are mapped as a fully fledged Sixaxis controller was that always there? :O

I'm Europe and I had no problems getting 2.00 they even told me there was an update waiting when I tried to log on PSN.

And why did they add a new 'colored' icon for PSN when there already exists a 'network' icon. Shouldn't they consolidate those two?

You can turn it off by pressing Triangle on the icon and disabling it.

The PSN icon is separate from the Network icon because it's only meant for PSN stuff (Home, PS Store, PS Media Store, etc.).
