First 45 minutes of Returnal

I'm not sure I want to watch more of this. Wasn't planning on buying this at all, but already like what I see and might just pick it up.

Considering she's dead I think the joke would be on you, you sick sick man.
Not if he's in to puppetry.

Housemarque games always sell poorly and Sony haven't exactly been giving Returnal the same treatment they give TLOU, Ratchet, Spidey or GoW from an advertising perspective, and it needs it way more than those established IP. I expect it to review well but sell badly. Preordered my copy months ago because it's Housemarque.
I've been seeing a lot of ads for it

The brains trust here were also convinced that Tsushima and Days Gone were going to be niche commercial failures. That Miles Morales was a sales flop. That TLOU2 wouldn't sell well because of the backlash

Suffice to say, people here have no idea what will sell well

So I turned it off. There is now a strong chance I'm gonna get this. Looks like seriously ambient, moody, fun, sci-fi. I'll wait and see what more people say about it, but so far it looks cool.

Simply speaking of value for the dollar, Returnal is far better.
In terms of a time investment I doubt that. People put hundreds of hours in to Ultimate Team. I can't wait to play it next week tbf. Can't believe it's out so soon. Really flying by this year.

Better quality, shorter video.

"Exploration is great!"... FF a few minutes... shows map.. it's a single straight line.. says "exploration.. not the best" lol

Talk about rushing to create a video.. this guy is saying shit based on basically a tutorial level lol

Fuck I hate youtubers.

Watching, get annoying by the stream guy saying about the graphics...

Looks OK to me, but not like 'next gen' yet.
I feel you here. It's at least 60FPS with some cool effects. Ratchet will likely be a bigger graphical showcase.

If it's a roguelike, it's hard to say. I had like 60+ hours in Rogue.

I don't want to spend $70 on this but I like what I'm seeing.

I'll see what the price is once I'm done with Nier Replicant.

Really liking what I see as things I was wondering about are starting to get answered.
The atmosphere is top notch

I dont like idea - "die and repeat from beginning". This looks like Dead Cells. Too much frustrating for me. How long will be full run?. 2-3 hours?. Die after 2 hours and start from beginning?. NO.

Thank you.

Much better.

Are you new to roguelikes? Like wtf? Just dismiss the genre and move on if you don't like them. For those who do like them they offer some of the purest gameplay experiences out there at the moment. It's the best throwback to the arcade era there is.

The online play is "deceased scouts", basically a Souls-like bloodstain where you can see another player die and then you can choose to avenge them if you want.

I'm guessing this shit needs PS+ hah, hope not though. I beat all of Demons Souls (PS5) without PS+ and don't really plan on getting into their ecosystem anytime soon.

This game looks great.

Its like Bloodborne + Control + Metroid + Super Stardust.

Love the alien vibe, the fast arcade gameplay, and I like the story idea.

They've said no need for Plus.

And there's also an optional high score mode where you get 1 life and try to get as far as you can. Then there are online leaderboards for competition.

Yeah I'm in. Looks like a bullet hell speedier Control with the good ol light Metroid elements in tow. Sure. Take my crisp 70 greenbacks.

Are the levels created by procedural generation or pre-set?
It changes every time you die. (Edit - so they say its a mix of hand crafted and procedural.)

"You're not ploughing through a set number of small arena-style kill boxes in quick succession. Level design is hugely varied and you have breathing room to explore. For the majority of your playtime, a good two-thirds of the screen real estate is dedicated to the world around you. Yes, that's also to best assess threat placement during combat, but it also captures the colossal scale of the alien civilisation. Smaller touches outside combat sell the atmosphere. The indistinct call of wildlife in the far distance; writhing grass that's one of the planet's non-aggressive lifeforms; the dirt smears that gradually accumulate on Selene's suit; the steady patter of rainfall felt through the DualSense controller's haptic feedback."

"Doorways open to claustrophobic alleys, multi-floor structures, tiny caves, partially-destroyed bridges. Hidden catacombs and side rooms are rife. Traps, interactive alien devices – and the items needed to access them – are nestled here and there (such as Fabricators, which generate items, or the Reconstructor, a one-time resurrection machine you'll return to on death, keeping you in the current cycle with loadout intact). Unreachable spots will taunt you until you've found and incorporated the right alien tech to access in future cycles. You're given a general compass direction to your central goal, but you're otherwise free to explore as much or as little as you like. Further exploration and backtracking will help you upgrade equipment, unlock sealed sections and delve into the lore of the long-dead civilisation. Alternatively, focus on combat and stack the odds increasingly against you. It's your choice."
