GremlinInTheMachine said:Memorizing layouts and routes doesnt require any skill. Theyre acts of rote memorization. Theyre analogous to memorizing a list of names. How many people memorize lists of names for fun?
Planning attack and escape routes requires only a marginal degree of skill. Its mainly an exercise in determining which route is least frequented by enemy characters, which itself is dependent on the rote memorization of layouts and routes.
Eavesdropping is highly passive. The act itself requires you to remain inactive while you simply listen in on a conversation. The only skills required are determining which characters have something relevant to say and where along their routes theyll say it. The latter is a simple matter of observation. And the former rarely requires much analysis because the characters dialogue is inevitably very limited.
That isnt to say that its objectively unfun. Funs subjective. But it does explain why a lot of people dont find it fun.

AC is just the perfect game for me. I know what Ubi Montreal tried and apparently managed to achieve with it and I agree with just about any design decision they've made so far.
I love the music, the art direction, the (optional) depth and the atmosphere. It's one of these rare games that doesn't look gamey, it's something you wouldn't be embarrassed to show to someone who is not a gamer.
It's like someone took the concept from my mind and said "Hey, let's make a game for this Frenck guy". Maybe you like being kicked down long hallways full of scripted events by developers, but that's not my thing.
There are hardly any other games that interest me and I don't have much motivation to post about shitty games anymore or discuss the same shit that has been discussed endless times before. That's why my post history looks the way it does.
deepbrown said:Are you saying that when you play AC you're going to "learn the routes" of each of the enemies and make sure you take a route they do not go? Your going to learn the routes in each of these kilometer wide cities, and learn how the AI works?
Out of interest...do you want to play a game and have fun, or do you want to learn how to design a level and code AI?

GremlinInTheMachine said:I've already said that my argument is based on previews. If you can play it balls out, which some people claim you can, then my argument is a wash and I'll buy the game.
TTG said:It's like talking about how good/boring the NFL games for this week are on friday based on what ESPN tells you. You haven't played the damn thing yet.
That is their job.Concept17 said:yet will probly be the most criticized game of the year. Hell it already is and its not even out yet.
GremlinInTheMachine said:Terrible analogy. Games are highly derivative, and there have been detailed previews for the game.

For the people here who worry about AC being repetetive and not having anything other to do besides killing and finding flags: cheer up. Remember Shadow of the Colossus?? That game surely was repetitive, but damn I spent so, so many hours on it. I could easily explore for hours and marvel at the beauty of the game, and there were only freaking turtles and birds and lizards. AC has got whole cities, with loads of people!
Stop worrying![]()

Skip can you answer this question? I'm not sure if I'm going too far, it's quite subjective anyway. But when you kill someone in Assassin's Creed- does it feel like you've actually killed someone? [/molyneux]
skip said:the guards, not so much. but the targets and how they tie into the story provides a sense of accomplishment, and they try to inject moral ambiguity into that.
TTG said:I think you mistook me for frenck. :lol
If I sound defensive, it's only because there seems to be SO MUCH hate for this game. Which is sad considering it's an original IP from an accomplished dev team and it's different from so many other games this holiday season.

The irony.
