First console you payed for your own money?

Xbox 360, saved up for it for 2 years. I didn't have money for games back then so I had to pirate them. Shame on me I know... :(

PS2, in 2002. First game i bought with my own money was Alundra in summer of 1998.
My mother had bought me a PS1 in 1996 but with no games.
I had to bum games off my buds for 1 year until school was out and i was able to get a summer job and buy Alundra.

I'm not sure which one I bought first, the PS1 or the N64 w/gold controller bundle. I got the PS1 for Bushido Blade and the N64 for Goldeneye, and they were very close in release dates. I think I bought both systems within 2 months of each other.

My parents bought the NES, SNES and various Game Boys we had before that.

A PS2. And I bought it with quarters lol. Well, sort of. I rolled them all up and had someone take them to the bank for cash but I had the whole amount in quarters. I would buy the absolute cheapest thing I could at lunch (would buy cool ranch Doritos and nacho cheese for 35 cents total) each day in Junior High until I finally had enough.

My PS3 doesn't count cause my friends gifted me $90 on my birthday to get it, so the 3DS then.

Sega CD. A few years after release from a independent game store for £70. For the sole purpose of playing Snatcher.

I regret nothing.

Although, a few years back, I had a fire, so I have been steadily replacing some consoles I lost using ebay, so
technically, I've bought nigh-on every console at least once.

Pretty sure my first was the GameCube. I remember hearing an ad for a clearance price at a local store on the radio, and begged my mum to drive me in and put one on lay-by before they cleared out.
Pretty sure I paid $199 AUD.

PlayStation 2. My parents bought the first PS2 I owned, but the disc drive died. Saved up money to buy a new one, and my brother said that if I was able to buy a new console, he would get me Hitman: Contracts since I was looking forward to it.

My brother came through, which was awesome. Never finished that game though.

Playstation. The Nintendo 64 was disappointing for me and I scored one for $100 with Resident Evil Directors cut. That Christmas was such a good one, I got Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, and Resident Evil 2 as gifts.

Handheld: PlayStation Vita
Console: Xbox 360

I got my 360 completely on a whim to mess around with Halo 4. Only played it for like 2 weeks and ended up selling to my brother recently.

Mine was the sega genesis. I sold my nes with the mario/duck hunt bundle and did some epic playground trading of GI Joes for games from almost every kid that allowed me to get the console. I went from a nes with one game, to a nes with enough games and addons - like ROB - to afford the new Genesis console and a couple games all on my own. Hell we were so poor my drunkass of a step dad chaged me gas money to drive me to the Mom & Pop store to trade everything in. I learned something valuable about my nine year old self that week pulling off NFL GM worthy trades with the kids at school.

SNES. Did yard work for neighbors to save up enough to buy it.

I really wanted one of those indigo ones but this one was bundled with Rayman so yeah.

I'm not sure... my grandfather bought me my NES and my grandmother bought me my SNES. I think Sega Genesis was the first I raised money for with my allowance, but my mother may have fronted some of the money... I can't remember. And not too long after that I also got the SNES Slim and sold my old one. So maybe that one.

I know I didn't have enough money for the N64 at launch. I even sold my (1994) Spider-Man card collection to pay for it, but I still didn't have quite enough so my mother fronted a little of the money for it.

By the time I got the PS1 (late into the gen), I already had a job and I payed for it in full and every console I've owned since.

First handheld I bought was the PSP.
First console I bought was a used 360 off my buddy.

All the consoles/handhelds I had before that were gifts, or a few of them my father owned and since I was young enough at that time, I didn't need my own.

Hmm well I did a fair bit of yard work for my neighbors to save $150 for a Xbox, but my parents paid the remaining $20 of the then-MSRP, so that may not count.

In that case it would be a 360 replacement in '09. They were both worth it.

my uncle bought me my NES. parents bought me the genesis and ps1. college gf bought me the ps2. i bought myself a wii. then my then gf, now wife, bought me both my xbox 360 and ps3.

so wii. if we count handhelds i also bought myself a ds lite i believe.

I bought a Super Nintendo a few years back, but as far as when a console was actually a current gen console, that would be the Vita. My sister bought my 3ds as a birthday present, and everything before then has been a birthday or christmas present.
