First console you payed for your own money?

Xbox (gen 1)

My parents were pretty generous growing up I had pretty much everything. My first job (first paycheck now that I remember too) went to GameStop for an Xbox and Halo:CE.

I turned 16 last September, and got a job almost as soon as I could, I never really had the disposable income as a child to buy my own systems, and to be honest I never had to because my parents were always willing to buy my games and systems, this year however is the first year I'm buying my own console. (Last year is the year I started paying for my own games, I bought Halo 4, Black Ops 2, and Sonic Generations with my own money, I felt proud :) ).

I honestly can still have my parents pay for my games and systems, but I want to start taking responsibility into my own hands, and want to get a feel for being an adult, so this year I've bought every single gaming related item with my own money I get from working my minimum wage job (I also pay rent in a way... give my parents about... $200 a month?), this year so far I bought The Last of Us, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider by myself, and paid off Saints Row IV, GTA V, and Forza Motorsport 5 by myself.

Xbox One will be the first console I personally pay for with my own money (my pre-order is mostly paid off... still need about $200 left, which I feel confident that I can pull before November) , and to be honest that's making it feel more special to me :P Feels nice paying for my own things. I really am enjoying the experience of getting a feel for growing up, having to pay for my own food, entertainment, and activities. (and yes, I am saving money on the side, not all being blown towards games)

Kind of a long, personal and maybe meaningless post, but just felt like sharing. :)

Technically our first console (Sega Master System II) was bought with my money, because it was an account under my name that was used for some miscellaneous stuff, but obviously being five years old I didn't actually earn that money myself.

For realsies, I saved up $250 to buy an N64 Twin Controller Pak when I was 10 or 11. Well, my brother put in like $20 or $40 (he was three years younger), but most of it was from my paper run.

I think my parents paid for Super Mario 64 though.

.

This thread makes me feel old.

Nintendo DS lite, I shelled out 70% of the price, my mom helped me with the rest and a game, I was 15 at the time so yeah, I'm 22 now and I buy all my VG/nerdy stuff myself.

PS2, very late. I think Soul Calibur 2 had just released by the time I got one. I remember being more surprised at what Taki was wearing, even beside Ivy.

Xbox.

GameCube was my last console at Christmas time. N64 was Christmas...SNES was Christmas...NES was Christmas...

Xbox was in college and I bought it when Halo 2 came out.

I sold my SNES and all the great games (ALL OF THEM) for dirt cheap so I could get a Playstation. I don't regret it that much as I got billion hours out of PS1 but some if not most of those SNES games are rather hard to get these days

Launch day playstation 2, my parents were so proud of me for how hard I had worked to get all the money they bought me dynasty warriors 2 to go with it. I was so happpppyyyy :3333333

Gamecube, bought a pre-owned one when after it price-dropped to $99. Got it with Godzilla.

Next was Xbox and then the DS.

Used Psx, dunno who I even bought it off of. Just remember that I didn't burn myself with the soldering iron like I did the other day :\

The Gameboy (this actual system here) was the first game system which I purchased with my own money. First game? MegaMan Wily Wars.

The system is still in excellent condition, I think, for being 23 years old.

Blue original Nintendo DS when I was in grade 6. Worked in school staff room washing dishes for it. Also got it with a remake of one of the first video game I ever played (super Mario 64 Ds)

Not a console but I saved and did odd jobs for what seemed like an eternity when I was a teen to pick up a 2nd-hand Amiga.

It made it all the more glorious.

I actually think I still haven't bought a console with my own hard owned money, almost every time I've had assistance or the money is just money that I've been saving up, so I didn't really earn it.

The closest thing is my 3DS which I got at launch, I saved up money for months, and traded in my DS Lite for a discount. I am a proud ambassador.

Playstation.

That money was for an N64 but Nintendo done goofed and delayed the thing then let Sony take all it's games. The tipping point was seeing Final Fantasy VII as a Playstation exclusive on a magazine cover (and every cover after that).

NES, when I was 15. Originally my sister bought it, and I spent the same amount on the games (Zelda 1 and Commando), but she soon lost interest so I bought it back from her.

I don't recall the prices, but at the $6 per hour I made then, it was a significant purchase.

PS1, thought the N64 3d mario and zelda looked ugly as hell. Had deep problems with non 2D games on consoles in the beginning. PC games looked way better at that time. Tekken 3 kinda won me over though.
